I bought a motorbike a few months ago and a while ago it broke down. After some closer inspection and assessment by qualified persons, it's basically fucked and I'm now in negotiations with the sellers to take it back and either repair it or refund me. For various reasons this is looking like it will be a long time in the making so I have to basically write off that money and bike for the time being.

That leaves me with a big dilemma.

What's the dilemma?

How will she now be able to run the fraudulent seller over?

I HAVE to have transport to get to work. I live and work quite rurally, public transport is shit and really unreliable.

I don't have the money to buy another one new. I can't get a loan or credit card. I can't borrow anything off anyone. For various reasons, walking and cycling are not an option. Wtf do I do until I can get my money back or get it fixed?! Aibu to be really upset that I've basically thrown away £900 that I desperately need on something that doesn't work. So fed up.

How likely is it do you think you'll get your money back? On what grounds are you hoping to get a refund? Just asking for clarification.

Is there any chance you could approach your work for an advance?

Can you go to the bank and explain your dilemma? they may be sympathetic.

What I was going to suggest was 'card tarting' if you don't do it already, but I see you cant get credit, there fore are unlikely to have a credit card.

We bought a new 17 plate 125cc bike/scooter/thing. It was £1085. Credit was available, we didn't take it.

Moneysupermarket has an array of credit cards for bad creditors. Not an option I'd want to follow BUT if you really cant get out of the situation and you can pay it off late, it may be an option

My only options are:
a) Continue to take the bus or sponge lifts off everyone I can until such time as the sellers refund or fix it - this could be months
b) buy the best but cheapest motorbike/scooter thing I can afford just to get to work and back for the meantime - likely to still cost minimum of a few hundred plus more time and money if it breaks down.

Really can't get credit of any kind - I'm under a DRO so I'm not allowed and even if I was allowed I can't afford to pay it back. Same goes for getting an advance from work unfortunately - if I get an advance I'm screwed for next month. I'm a student so I only work part time.

What's the various reasons that you can't walk or cycle? Not saying you should, just curious!

Why would you have to wait months for repair or refund?
Surely it was not fit for purpose?

Was it a private seller or garage/trade?

It was a shop that I brought from via eBay. I paid cash on delivery so can't claim the money back through PayPal.

Three, it isn't fit for purpose but the seller wants to try and repair it - it's a big job that may take ages and they are in a completely different part of the country to me. Just trying to negotiate a time for them to pick it up has taken weeks - I still don't know when they are coming to get it!

The seller is allowed to repair it at no significant inconvenience to you.It seems very inconvenient to you.
I'd ask for my money back. They are allowed to try and repair things, as long as it doesn't inconvenience you, or leave you out of pocket.

With regards to the walking/cycling - the route I would need to take is full of really big hills. I have a lot of early starts and late finishes, the roads are narrow country lanes, unlit and with no pavements. They are also frequently very foggy (especially at the moment) and have a lot of very large, heavy lorries driving along them.

The journey would take at least an hour, maybe hour and a half and I have no access to showers so would turn up at work covered in sweat, exhausted, and then have to work a 10hr shift standing on my feet with only a 20 minute break. It's just not feasible really.

It is very inconvenient really emoji. Not only is there an engine issue which is a big job but the frame is rotten and rusted almost through in some places, including one vital spot that holds the rear brake together. I'm shocked it passed the MOT tbh but the shop itself did the MOT, with no advisories no less! I didn't realise the extent of the rust until it broke down as a lot of it was under fairings/plastics etc.

What did you do before you bought the bike a few months ago?

Can you cycle or is that completely out of the question? You can pick up a bike for nowt on Freegle or Freecycle.

Check and see if there is a scheme in your area. We have one where I live and you can rent a moped for very little money to get to work.

Sponge lifts and take the bus until you've saved enough for the crap one, then buy it if your original hasn't turned up. You have to get a motorbike asap.
In the meantime, hound the bike fixers and sell stuff

Traffic really Norland. I need answers fast as I'm at a loss and feeling really low. I have asked them for a refund but they want to fix it and I can't force them to give me my money back - well, I can, and I will if I have to go down that road but it would probably take a long time and that doesn't help me much right now.

I had another bike before this one that I had for a few years but it broke down too, this one was a replacement for the old one and I used all my savings getting it. Completely cleaned me out and I'm still trying to get back on track money wise because of it.

Get your money back, buy another bike locally.

Ring trading standards, they'll direct you to a template letter where you set 14 days for a refund of goods not fit for purpose. The shop are bullshitting you, which given the dodgy MOT, is hardly surprising. And don't buy your next vehicle off eBay.

Is there someone you can share a regular lift with and offer a bit towards fuel (like you'd be spending on your bike).
