I was at primary school in the early 90s. I don't remember any lunchbox police at all. For years I took in coleslaw sandwiches (I can't stand coleslaw now), a flask of orange squash, a packet of crisps and a kitkat.

70's here. A jam sandwich or sometimes dripping sandwich, an apple if there were any on the tree and a flask of squash. Nothing else. We didn't have money to spend on crisps or chocolate. They were for special occasions only.

Lexilooo · 30/03/2017 19:23

A sandwich, ham, or meat paste, or cheese spread normally.

A Penguin biscuit or similar, rocky, taxi, gold, etc or a muesli bar.

A squash type drink.

Then one other item that rotated according to the day of the week, a babybel, a packet of crisps, peanuts and raisins(unsalted sometimes yoghurt coated), fruit, and a few other bits and bobs.

No lunchbox police some kids got crisps everyday but I was only allowed them once a week. I wasn't allowed jam or Nutella sandwiches either. I was deprived.

Dearlittleflo · 30/03/2017 19:25

Marmite sangers
Piece of fruit
Packet of crisps
Babybel/hard boiled egg (I loved eggs but always pretended to my friends that my mum forced me to have them because everyone else thought eating an egg was disgusting)
Flask of weak squash

Willwe · 30/03/2017 19:31

Salmon paste sandwich, crisps, carton of juice and maybe an apple.

Saucery · 30/03/2017 19:40

Ham, cheese or paste sandwiches. Sandwich spread sometimes- deep joy! Orange squash in a screwtop beaker, frazzles maybe. Trio or Club Biscuit. We had plenty of fruit and veg at home, but not in lunch boxes.

Lionking1981 · 30/03/2017 19:42

I also had salmon paste sandwiches.
Piece of fruit.
Breakaway, trio or blue riband.
One of those brilliant yoghurts with feet (can't remember what they were called)
Thundercats crisps.
Orange squash in a flask.

acquiescence · 30/03/2017 19:52

Jam sandwich, crisps, a small chocolate bar and a piece of fruit. 90s.

Crankycunt · 30/03/2017 19:55

Ham sandwich, crisps and a penguin. Flask of squash and Uneaten fruit.

emwithme · 30/03/2017 20:12

Primary school in early-mid 80s. Generally had school dinners, but if ever I took a packed lunch (school trips or days when I had ballet or orchestra or whatever) it would be:

White bread sandwich of ham/cheese/meat paste (now I am craving a squishy white bread and beef-and-tomato paste sandwich)
Bag of crisps (always Walkers, usually salt and vinegar or cheese and onion)
Chocolate bar - penguin or kitkat or similar
Yoghurt (ski or munch bunch)
Piece of fruit (apple or banana)

IckyPop · 30/03/2017 20:12

I was at infant then junior school from 1982-1989 and my packed lunches changed over time and were interspersed with school dinners.

Infant school:
sandwich spread or fish/meat paste (boak) sandwiches
pot of home made (from cubes) jelly
blue riband biscuit/penguin
maybe fruit, but can't specifically remember eating any!
DM would pack me a flask of cocoa in the winter, yum!

As I got older:
same sandwiches as above or peanut butter or cheese spread, or
pasta salad
yoghurt (Ski or Mr Men)
crisps
banana/apple
capri sun or OJ carton
treat of can of pepsi sometimes Shock

Times certainly change!

Boiing · 30/03/2017 20:17

Sliced cheese or ham with salad on wholemeal or rye bread, with an apple or banana. No crisps or choc allowed for me, I used to get a bit jealous of friends! 1990s.

abeandhalo · 30/03/2017 20:18

Also in the 90s:
White bread sandwich
Crisps
Chocolate biscuit
Carton of juice
Piece of fruit that I wouldn't eat b/c it was warm & bruised by lunch time

One of my friends, a v spoiled kid obviously, used to have ketchup sandwiches and sometimes Mars bar sandwiches. Today's lunchbox police wouldn't know what to do with him!

BeastofCraggyIsland · 30/03/2017 20:40

Primary school in the late 80s/early 90s:

Chicken, tuna, ham, cheese or occasionally chicken paste sandwich (I still get cravings for white bread chicken paste sandwiches sometimes)
Yoghurt/fromage frais
Grapes or a few cherry tomatoes
Apple or banana
Biscuit - usually a Blue Riband, Penguin, Mini Roll or a couple of Jaffa Cakes
Flask of squash or sometimes a Capri-Sun or carton of Um Bongo Grin

I never had crisps, I wasn't really keen on them.

blubberball · 30/03/2017 20:47

A lot of people used to have a snoopy lunchbox.

OP posts:
MrsHathaway · 30/03/2017 20:47

80s/90s

Cheese sandwich on white bread (mature cheddar; medium sliced bread).
Club biscuit.
Weak squash in flask.

Flask matched solid plastic lunchbox. Mine had Asterix and Obelix on it.

BathshebaDarkstone · 30/03/2017 20:51

A cheese sandwich, crisps, an apple, a beaker of milk. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I paid 8p for tomato soup to dunk my sandwich in. Grin

saladsmoothie · 30/03/2017 20:53

A dairylea and cucumber sandwich.
Apple or orange.
Penguin biscuit.
Flask of orange squash.

sillypussy · 30/03/2017 20:57

Apparently when I was 5 my brother did my school lunch and he made me golden syrup sandwiches. This was in the 70's. I can't remember if I liked them......

megletthesecond · 30/03/2017 21:02

We usually had 1980's school dinners but on high days and holidays packed lunch was;

Ryvita with bovril spread or cheese.
Apple
Crisps
Club bar.

LapCatLicker · 30/03/2017 21:07

Paste sandwiches sound grim!

Once I turned 11 my mom gave me money for the school cafeteria (Canada) because I wouldn't eat the lunches she made. Her most famous was fried egg sandwiches on brown bread with ketchup. Almost palatable when warm but disgusting and smelly after 4 hrs in my locker.

FunnysInLaJardin · 30/03/2017 21:11

Homemade wholemeal bread sandwiches with cheese/pate/potted meat. An apple. I threw it away most days and bought un frozen ice pops from the corner shop.......This was the early 80's

Glitteryfrog · 30/03/2017 21:14
