I was at primary school in the early 90s. I don't remember any lunchbox police at all. For years I took in coleslaw sandwiches (I can't stand coleslaw now), a flask of orange squash, a packet of crisps and a kitkat.

It usually alternated between

  1. Rice, salmon (always with either miso or teriyaki), tamagoyaki
  2. Rice, mixed yakitori, tofu
  3. Rice, unagi, seaweed strips

My parents were great fans of rice as you can see.

YerAWizardHarry · 30/03/2017 17:52

I started primary school in 1998 and it was all about lunchable - the cheese and biscuit kind but there was also a hot dog lunchable and a couple other types

FloatyCat · 30/03/2017 17:52

Salmon paste or ham sandwich
Orange squash in a flask
Small bag crisps
Penguin if I was lucky
Apple / Orange for snack at break.
Only fruit allowed for snack at break

HolditFinger · 30/03/2017 17:53

Jam sandwiches or tuna. That was pretty much all I'd eat for a few years.

TheHiphopopotamus · 30/03/2017 18:03

I bet the share prices of whoever makes Penguin biscuits plummeted with the advent of the lunchbox police in the noughties.

Do they even still make penguins? Confused

1980's, tomato sauce sandwiches Grin a packet of crisps, strawberry/pineapple yoghurt, a piece of fruit and a penguin. Every single day!
I had a little red snoopy lunchbox with a flask which was usually filled with squash.
My DF made all of our packed lunches throughout school!

thegoodnameshadgone · 30/03/2017 18:12

Craving chicken paste sandwiches right now with a gold bar!

HelgaHufflepuff76 · 30/03/2017 18:12

80's to early 90's.

Sandwich with cheese or salad. Club or penguin bar. Apple, pear or orange. Carton of juice such as Umbongo or Ribena.

HelgaHufflepuff76 · 30/03/2017 18:16

Oh, I had a Snoopy lunchbox too! It was one of those hard plastic ones with a handle at the top. I remember being confused as to why it said "peanuts" on it instead of Snoopy Grin

Occadodo · 30/03/2017 18:28

A Princes paste sandwich... mum worked there for a while and used to get loads for cheap ... so for a whole month it would be salmon, then chicken ....
white bread... did other bread exist?
Biscuit.... trio, united, blue ribbons... flask with squash.... sometimes crisps ... that's it! We could have free school dinners so having pack up was a treat!
I hated school dinners... I was born in 76 and only allowed pack up in junior school!

MissMogwi · 30/03/2017 18:33

Meat paste or ham sandwich
Penguin or Club
Fruit
Flask of cordial - all packed in my Rainbow Bright lunchbox.

When the school dinner kids had xmas lunch, mum would pack us turkey sarnies, cake and a cracker. Mid 80's.

Occadodo · 30/03/2017 18:33

I had a hand-me-down Spider-Man flask and lunch box .... later graduated to my little pony!

MissMogwi · 30/03/2017 18:34

I remember cordial tasting horrible from a flask.😷

Gillian1980 · 30/03/2017 18:36

In the 80s and early 90s.

Sandwich - white bread, sandwich paste or cheese usually.
Pack of crisps - supermarket own brand.
Chocolate biscuit.

Sometimes a piece of fruit which I always left.

Sometimes a yoghurt which I may eat.

I was always happy with my lunch. But I'd never send dd with that stuff- zero nutrition!

MargaretCabbage · 30/03/2017 18:36

A ham sandwich on white bread.
Packet of crisps.
Orange or apple.
Biscuit like a Penguin or Club.
Yoghurt.

The school used to provide cups of squash at lunch time so I didn't have to take a drink.

This was the 90s.

Gillian1980 · 30/03/2017 18:36

Oh and a flask of squash. Which always seemed to leak no matter how new the flask!

Chasingsquirrels · 30/03/2017 18:36

Ham sandwich, packet of crisps and a penguin biscuit (was born 1972).
I don't recall taking fruit but probably had an apple or a satsuma.

HelenaJustina · 30/03/2017 18:38

A roll with ham or cheese in it
A small yoghurt
A piece of fruit
Water

We didn't have much disposable income. There might have been a bit of cake or a packet of crisps for a birthday

Anasnake · 30/03/2017 18:39

Paste sandwich on white bread, crisps (always eaten at break), penguin biscuit or similar and beaker of juice. All in a Tupperware muppets lunch box - early 80's.

andnow · 30/03/2017 18:39

Early 90s I had honey (!?) sandwiches on white bread, Penguin or Viscount biscuit or those wee Jaffa Cakes in the tub, plus crisps. Must bring up the honey sandwiches the next time DM questions what I'm feeding DD...

fairiedemon · 30/03/2017 18:40

Late 90s - ham sandwich, pringles, carton of umbongo and a frube

Pinkkahori · 30/03/2017 18:41

Primary school early '80s. Jam sandwich, a banana and a Penguin/54321/Clubmilk. Flask of sugary tea in winter, squash in summer. All that sugar! Loads of fillings/extractions as a teenager.

JustDanceAddict · 30/03/2017 18:42

I took in primary school in the 70s/early80s and usually a sandwich - I also loved sandwich spread, vegetable, fruit & cant remember what else - maybe crisps some days. Def A juice box like Five Alice or Um bongo (they drink it in the Congo!!). My parents were very strict with food - much stricter than I am with my kids.

JustDanceAddict · 30/03/2017 18:43
