I was at primary school in the early 90s. I don't remember any lunchbox police at all. For years I took in coleslaw sandwiches (I can't stand coleslaw now), a flask of orange squash, a packet of crisps and a kitkat.

No packed lunches for me in the mid to late 70's , always school dinners

However my own DC in the 90's had

A ham or cheese sandwich
Chicken Satay stick
Crisps
Fromage Frais or Yogurt
Fruit
A carton of juice

Willowwisp23 · 30/03/2017 14:52

Chocolate spread sandwiches on white bread
Chocolate mousse
Bar of chocolate
Flask of juice

Mid 1980s. How times have changed 😂

overmydeadbody · 30/03/2017 14:52

Mid to late 90s: humous or cheese or tuna on wholemeal pita with salad, or sometimes couscous salad, fruit, a strawberry milk or carton of juice, pots of veg like carrots, zaatar bread if we were lucky, occasionally a leftover chicken shawarma if we were very lucky.

Never chocolate, it would have melted

ThymeLord · 30/03/2017 14:53

Two pieces of white bread with either tuna or cheese slices (cheese slices being the fave choice mmm)
Bag of cheap crisps
Penguin
Satsuma

Mid eighties.

isseywithcats · 30/03/2017 14:55

primary school in the 60s everyone had school dinners except the few who went home for their dinner, if we went on a day trip somewhere my packed lunch was pretty standard for the time, cheese or cheesepread sandwich on white bread, a chocolate bar like a kit kat, an apple and a packet of crisps with a bottle of orange squash to drink ,

my kids in the eighties had school dinners and pretty much the same sort of packed lunch on a day trip as i had

Bohemond · 30/03/2017 14:56

Paste sandwiches (sardine and tomato paste, two bits of bread)
Freezer bag with handful of crisps (multipacks non existent in those days)
Piece of fruit
Breakaway or Club biscuit
Flask of squash
Early eighties

gianna99 · 30/03/2017 14:57

You're all so young... Nobody brought lunches in the early 70s. Everyone had school dinners at primary school.

Screwinthetuna · 30/03/2017 14:58

2 paste sandwiches. No drink, I'd get water

Orangebird69 · 30/03/2017 14:58

Early 80s. Sandwich, crisps, piece of fruit, yoghurt, Penguin or Club chocolate bar, squash. In a yellow Kermit the Frog lunchbox.

MrsHughesCarson · 30/03/2017 14:59

Late 70´s primary school, i took cheese sandwiches (white bread) an apple and a united biscuit.
At secondary school my mum used to give me money to by dinner tickets for the school dinners but I used to keep the money and in the summer I bought my lunch from the ice cream van that came to park on the school playground Shock. This consisted of a Coke float, a Twix and a frozen jubbly. In the winter I bought a hot pie from the local shop. All while my mum thought I was having nourishing school dinners.
I must add I have no long lasting health issues from this diet and have never been overweight Grin

MrsPear · 30/03/2017 15:00

Don't remember fruit or what I had to drink. I do remember milk as it made your day if you and a friend were chosen to get the crate!
Anyway pack lunch I do remember corn beef and pickle and cheese and pickle sandwiches on white bread. Plus crisps and a chocolate biscuit like a club or penguin. Ds1 is not allowed a chocolate biscuit poor thing.

hazeyjane · 30/03/2017 15:00

1970s
Mostly free school meals but when I had packed lunch it would be

Fish paste sandwiches
Pack of 5p crisps (footballs or burger bites)
Viscount biscuit
Occasionally an apple
Orange squash in a flask or an old 5pints powedered milk container (still smelt milky....bleuegh)

MrsPear · 30/03/2017 15:00

And that was the 80s in England

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 30/03/2017 15:03

Two sandwiches - Marmite, cheese and pickle or something - , and apple, Penguin bar, packet of crisps and a flask of squash. Early 80s to mid 90s.

Bohemond · 30/03/2017 15:04

This is making me fancy a paste sandwich and remember that I used to work with a George Shippam of the Shippam's paste dynasty!

SukeyTakeItOffAgain · 30/03/2017 15:05

Paste was disgusting. Say the word, go on - paste paste, PASTE.

Bleurgh!

Mulberry72 · 30/03/2017 15:08

Late 70's/Early 80's

Beef paste or cheese spread on white bread or an oven bottom, Golden Wonder crisps (usually cheese & onion), chocolate biscuit of some description.

Dancergirl · 30/03/2017 15:10

Early 80s:

Cheese and marmite sandwich
Crisps
Chocolate bar or biscuit
Squash in my Snoopy flask (which fitted into the Snoopy lunchbox) Smile

Wonder what the lunchbox police would make of that? Grin

EnglishGirlApproximately · 30/03/2017 15:10

Late 70s/early 80s - white bread sandwich, cheese or jam, bag of crisps, wagon wheel/penguin type thing. My dm wasn't much of a cook bless her, thought the microwave and deep fat fryer were the best inventions ever Grin

EnglishGirlApproximately · 30/03/2017 15:11

mrspear you've just reminded me - either corned beef or tongue sandwiches Shock

ShowMePotatoSalad · 30/03/2017 15:13

Early to late 90s

Sandwich on white bread with tuna, ham or billy bear Shock

Crisps chocolate bar and juice.

ThePiglet59 · 30/03/2017 15:13

"that sounds like too much/not enough food and it's packed with sugar, salt, carbs, heroin and crack"

Snigger!

catsarenice · 30/03/2017 15:14

1980's/early 90's here: paste/cheese and pickle/sandwich spread/peanut butter/chocolate spread sandwich, packet of crisps, homemade cake or penguin type biscuit, apple, pear or satsuma

BeyondThePage · 30/03/2017 15:14

A lot of these items wouldn't be acceptable in some schools now would they

no... and with good reason.

Don't know about anyone else born in the early 60's but my teeth are crap, I have IBS and am heading towards type 2 diabetes. The seeds are sown young (shame they were not eaten!).

My girls eat a much healthier diet which is much kinder to teeth and the gut and will hopefully not suffer these diseases of bad diet at all.

I had fillings in my baby teeth!! They have had not even a hint of decay at 14 and 16.
