DSs are 12 and 8. The 12 yo has recently become obsessed with a singer called Jon Belloin (imho the music is bloody awful, not a clue what he sees in it). The songs do often include swear words but DS is 12 and all songs do these days.
Naturally, his little brother has started copying his music taste and has become obsessed with him too. That would be fine if the two lines he kept singing weren’t “you’re the reason I’m alone and masturbate” and “last night I woke the fuck up”. I’ve managed to make him realise that children shouldn’t be saying “fuck” and he now sings “last night I woke the heck up”. But he cant seem to get his head around the other line… I’ve told him that it’s inappropriate and he shouldn’t sing it and have taken away his Ipad when he does but he seems to have really connected to that line.
It became worse when my brother was looking after him yesterday and when I picked him up he was laughing and told me DS2 had been singing song and that line. It’s my little brother so I know he wouldn’t care about what DS2 says but what if it were another adult? Even a teacher, maybe?
He doesn’t know what it means and can’t get his get his head round why he can’t say it. DS1 finding the whole thing hilarious isn’t helping either.
Am I overeacting? Or maybe under reacting?
