Our school discos are on soon and one mother has put a note at the botom of the ticket order form expressing concern that we are selling sweets at this event even though it is during Lent.....

I know it is a church school but I'm a bit about it - surely if she doesn't want her darlings to partake she can just send them without any pocket money?

I saw it earlier and still couldn't really follow!

stleger · 09/03/2007 21:22

Saw the post, that is, not the cybermooning!

AitchYouBerk · 09/03/2007 21:44

madamez, despite it being addressed to me i'm having difficulty following your post as well. i was referring to a funny thread that appeared here last week, if you didn't see it don't worry about it.

madamez · 09/03/2007 22:02

Aitch: Ok, mutual confusion here then. Cos I didn't read the thread. Though if someone wants to offer up a link I can maybe go away and do so and work out if I've been Actually Insulted and then spend minutes plotting a Cutting Riposte or something... but it would probably be better all round if I went and had a nice cup of cider and a scrap with someone else.
Byeee!

AitchYouBerk · 09/03/2007 22:26

it was more cheeky than insulting, i'd say. enjoy your cuppa.

twinsetandpearls · 09/03/2007 22:41

madamez you have an amzing ability to both infuriate and gently amuse me at the same time

madamez · 09/03/2007 22:55

Twinset {raising my glass to you} Cheers!

twinsetandpearls · 09/03/2007 22:56

I hope that is not goats blood in your glass!

madamez · 09/03/2007 23:11

Twinset: EeeW! Bet that's even nastier than Bulls Blood, which even my local dodgy off licence doesn't stock

(just for the benefit of any youthful vegans reading, Bulls Blood is the brand name of a rather nasty eastern european red wine, popular in the 80s, made from grapes (well, and lighter fluid and pure ethanol and red paint) no from bulls. Just in case anyone didn't get my funny joke because I'm so old that I have totally different points of reference.)

stleger · 09/03/2007 23:23

It was Hungarian?

KTeePee · 10/03/2007 07:52

Gosh, haven't been on MN for a few days, look what I started!

Anyway, the disco has been held. Don't know if it was normal behaviour at these things but lots of the kids (older boys especially) seemed to be far more interested in the tuck shop than the dancing! Those of you who felt the mother was right to compalin will be pleased to know that many of the children bought sweets to keep until Easter (showing how well they can resist temptation ). One of the children of the woman in question was seen clutching a chocolate bar but we don't know if it was ingested.... there was originally a plan to offer "healthy snacks" as an alternative to sweets but don't know what became of that, though there were crisps and small toys on offer!

twinsetandpearls, your school sounds quite old-fashioned (not meaning that in a critical way....sounds like what I would have experienced in the 70s) - I have to say I was pleasantly surprised how open-minded and liberal schools are in my area - don't think I would have wanted to send my children
there otherwise.....(but then I am a bad catholic...)

We had a social event last night and dd and her friend won a liitle bag of sweeties, they are on the shelf until easter!

twinsetandpearls · 10/03/2007 10:22

I suppose we are old fashioned in some ways but there is a delightful feel of calm, respect and affection as you walk in the school that I could not imagine sending her elsewhere.

We are quite a traditional community and the parents have a strong sayin how the school is run so it reflects our needs, concerns and priorities.

In some ways dd education reminds me of my own, I was educated in a convent at primary level but without the shame and judgement.

If it is a church school, she does have a point.

Not really. School choice is a myth in many areas where the only school you can get a place at is the local c of e. Most of the children at the school probably aren't christian & won't be doing anything lent related.
