To buy a Fitbit type thing?

Sorry, posting in here for traffic. Grin

I'm probably about 20 pounds/9kg overweight.

I'm finding it SO hard to motivate myself in to exercising and the only exercise I can do is fast walking/very slow and sporadic jogging (fucked knees).

I look a lot at the health app on the iPhone but think it's probably not so accurate as to how much or the type of exercise I'm getting.

For those of you that have fit bits or similar, did they help you drive to lose weight? If so, do I need a model with all the bells and whistles? Which brands are best? Did you lost interest in them after the initial purchase?

I'm bordering on getting one and dh says he'll buy me a top of the range one as an early birthday present if I want but reckons I'll be in to it for a couple of weeks then it'll be wasted money.

Tia

I got my Alta HR for my birthday a couple of weeks ago - I'm finding it really helps to focus my mind on being more active. I'm overweight, and unfit, so there's quite a bit of room for improvement! I've been using the Fitbit app on my phone, and just the knowledge that my activity will be recorded on the dashboard means that I am keen to hit the various targets each day. I find that it registers even quite light activity as 'active periods' so I only have to walk for 10-15 minutes for it to register. The other day, it told me I'd been active when all I'd done was pack a suitcase... I think that's probably indicative of just how unfit I am!

Good luck, and enjoy - it's fun!

I use the fit bit app in conjunction with Lose It for calorie counting. The two talk to each other and I think you can monitor calories through Fitbit but I like database of info on the Lose It app (it knows calories of lots of things so I don't need to programme it in).

I know a lot of people use My Fitness Pal too but I chose Lose It cause I have a friend who's also quietly losing weight and we can support each other through the app.

Can't wait to hear what you think of the Alta HR so I can justify the need for an upgrade

I love my Alta. V simple to use and it eggs you on, if you don't do 250 steps an hour.

When I bought it, I was doing 5-6k steps a day. I'm up to 20k+ now.

It didn't turn up! Too foggy to fly the fed ex plane in. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

I saved all of my going upstairs and the dog walk for when it turned up now will have to do it all this evening.

And I've eaten over half my allotted calories (on the app) and it only just past lunch time. All I've had is two chocolate biscuits, coffee, orange juice, and tea. Fucking hell. 😡
