Cave, this is technically true. But there is precedent for a president sending in troops without a formal declaration of war; Viet Nam and Korea come to mind. These were 'technically' called 'conflicts', not wars.

GingerIvy · 30/03/2017 15:43

Yes, exactly as Across says. And Trump appears to be lining up to do just that. Worrying.

Damn. @IAHouseGOP just confirmed in committee that if a woman has a miscarriage after 20 weeks, she has to carry dead fetus to term #ialegis

Yep, that's what the Rep said yesterday. The law doesn't say it in quite those terms, but the concern is the interpretation. How many women will die of sepsis before this is fixed, because after all, it's just women.

BiglyBadgers · 30/03/2017 15:59

if a woman has a miscarriage after 20 weeks, she has to carry dead fetus to term

That's just horrifying! Shock What possible purpose could it serve? It is just pure, unadulterated misogyny designed by people who simply hate women and want to see them suffer.

Dumdedumdedum · 30/03/2017 16:00

Yep, the warmongering thing reminds me of Thatcher, who got re-elected on the strength of the jingoistic crap that was the Falklands War. Wouldn't be surprised if Trump decided to follow in her footsteps.
That Cameron Brexit bullshit.. as much hubris as Tony Blair. Pah.

Dumdedumdedum · 30/03/2017 16:06

Just read the miscarriage after 20 weeks horror. Writing as one who miscarried at 22 weeks, I was induced and gave birth and will spare you the horrific details. All I can think is, if a foetus is deemed to be dead after 20 weeks, it is at its own term and thus can be induced? They surely can't mean a person (women are people too, you know) would have to carry a dead foetus inside them till their due date of birth? (I wouldn't put anything past this bunch of misogynistic bastards, mark you.)
I despair.

MrsT2007 · 30/03/2017 16:13

I still think some shit will hit the fan. The Jester warned of it this morning....last time he did was right before Devin Nunes' midnight scarper across the WH lawns.

I wonder whether the senate intel committee meeting has anything to do with it?

MrsT2007 · 30/03/2017 16:16

And agreed.

I had TFMR at 17 weeks as foetus wouldn't survive. Other option was waiting for it to die at any point up til term. That was not remotely an option. I just wanted to move on....it's horrific thinking what that rule might lead to, like that poor woman in Ireland a couple of years back who was denied an abortion and died of sepsis.

GingerIvy · 30/03/2017 16:23

I've had numerous miscarriages. None required surgical/medical intervention. However, this is not always the case, and a woman can rapidly end up with life threatening sepsis. Some are saying that IF she develops sepsis, then they will allow the procedure as then it's life saving. Barbaric.

Sorry to harp on about this miscarriage after 20 weeks thing, I can't believe what I'm reading - surely the Bigly, wonderful, all powerful men who are fathers of the dead foetuses wouldn't countenance the possibility of their wife/partner dying because they were unable to have a natural birth, or an inducement (induction) and D&C? God, it was bad enough losing our first baby, there's no way my husband would have wished me to carry her to her due date - what would be the point? These people are completely mad. Like Trump, actually. It's the same as the anti abortionists bombing abortion clinics and killing doctors. Or approving of capital punishment. WTAF? Still lives lost. Outrageous.
Sorry, I'm upset.

I've had a number of early miscarriages and a (beginning of) 2nd trimester one which required medical/surgical intervention. The foetus was DEAD, nothing, sadly, would have brought it back.

I can't see why anyone, no matter how fanatically pro life or religious can justify forcing a woman to continue to carry her dead or dying foetus - it's not going to change the outcome for the foetus/baby, but could put both the life and future fertility of the woman in jeopardy. It's utterly crazy.
