To just want some peace and quiet for MD?!

My children have spent the morning since 6am bickering about who is giving what present and who is making the best breakfast who is the nicest child etc and my DH has spent the rest of the time having a go at them for not doing their homework and arguing with each other and to tidy their room etc all I want if for them to just shut the fuck up! AIBU to think that none of them actually give a crap about how I actually feel?

YANBU. I'm contemplating sending DH out with the whiny baby as all I want is a few hours to myself but feel it's not really in the family spirit ...

At least you got presents and breakfast though. 2 up on me!

Lol. I was going to post a thread earlier asking if IWBU to want to spend Mothers Day on my own I love them of course, but they're hard bloody work aren't they. Next year I'm gonna book a spa day with my Mum I think!

Not being ungrateful but presents were 2 boxes of chocolates (am desperately trying to diet!) and two reed diffuser REFILL bottles (don't have a reed diffuser) because the only person to try and think about MD was my 8 year old. Very sweet but totally pants!! But they made such a huge fuss about making the breakfast - literally screaming shut up to each other that it made me want to cry!!

Be careful what you wish for ladies! My husband is away on business my three poppets are all at University, (well two are doing their course's and the other has finished but is 'keeping her boyfriend company' whilst he revises, only an hour away but too busy to come home obviously) The oldest, and most thoughtful, arranged for some tulips to be delivered this morning. (The other two probably haven't paid her yet.) and called this morning to wish me Happy Mothers Day. Not one of them has posted a card. I have all the peace and quiet I could wish for but there have been tears this morning! Peace and quiet can be lonely.

3 out of four of mine ( teenagers) haven't even got out of bed although there are 2 bunches of flowers and chocolates left on the table. Youngest has gone off to play in a football match, so I am on my own doing all the chores - shopping for a nice mothers day meal, ironing school uniforms and now off to walk the dog !
Wanted a lie in this morning but woken early by next door neighbours kids screaming and shouting in the garden. Came down to find dh and dd had made lovely pancakes with banana and strawberries, so have been spoilt quite a bit.

I spend Mother's Day hiding away upstairs whilst DH keeps our three year old away from me

To me, Mother's Day is about rest and relaxation.

I've been awake for 6.5 hours and I'm still in my pyjamas, cosies up in bed messing about on MN in between periods of reading a book. I saw DS briefly this morning when he woke up and again when DH bought he up a cooked breakfast in bed but apart from that I've been left to my own devices and it's heavenly!!!!!

DH is taking DS out all afternoon too so the peace can continue!!!

I find the whole "you must have a lovely day" thing always works the opposite to the way it should.

The pressure is huge!

I agree the pressure is silly it's like all the commercialised 'days'. Sort of what I said to my children - the best present would them just to be a bit considerate of everyone including each other! And I know, they'll be grown and gone soon enough (can't wait...kidding )
