I tried an experiment today and didnt want to mention it (and get slated) until i knew the results.
My ds does ballet (has done since 4 months) and tap. He has been enjoying the new class he is now in but not settled. Well we know why and did something about it.

He wants to be like all the others in the class.

And so he was and loved every minute. It was a fight to change him out of it.

There was comments made by older children but parents pulled them up and even credited us for it.

Not one person batted an eye in iceland or homebase.

My son is a boy through and through but want to be one of the class.

steff my daughter's dance teacher would be more than happy for them to wear that. She says there are so many pretty leotards in the world it is a shame to limit them to one boring black one all the time. The do have to wear ballet tights or bare legs for their ballet class though (she is 13 now, the littles don't wear tights!) and uniform for exams.

happypoobum · 25/03/2017 16:21

I don't understand? Why would anyone bat an eyelid?

He looks like a girl, what's your actual point?

I am surprised any of the children are allowed to wear dresses for ballet to be honest, when DD was that age four months she had to wear leotard etc.

steff13 · 25/03/2017 16:22

My daughter's teacher doesn't like them wearing tutus or skirts because she wants to make sure she can see their full leg extensions and everything. She really treats them like they're all going to grow up and join NYC Ballet or something. But the professionalism is part of why we picked her school.

statetrooperstacey · 25/03/2017 16:23

Yes well done you. He 100% looks like a little girl tho.
Good job eh, otherwise people would have probably thrown stones at him and walked behind you with a big bell shouting SHAME. Or not. You know, Cos no one really cares. . . . .

nogrip · 25/03/2017 16:24

Is English your 1st language OP?

OvariesBeforeBrovaries · 25/03/2017 16:25

He's got beautiful curls! He looks happy OP, it's great that nobody made comments. People are much more accepting of kids being kids these days :)

Soubriquet · 25/03/2017 16:25

This is my Dd's ballet school uniform

Meh.
Child wore child clothes.
It's not like he's a 6ft 4 rugby player.

Canyouseethis · 25/03/2017 16:26

Can I clarify the "4 months" thing please.

I don't know where you are (UK?) but it's a bit chilly for tutu's - whatever child's sex - even though it's a lovely day.

user1490123259 · 25/03/2017 16:28

He's not "a boy through and through" though, is he, he's just a tot.

MyGastIsFlabbered · 25/03/2017 16:28

Well done OP, you dressed your son in girl's clothes, pat yourself on the back and congratulate yourself on how enlightened you are Hmm

I often took my DS out in a princess dress when he was very little. He liked being Jasmine the most. I never gave it a second thought and I very much doubt anyone else did.

kingscrossnoodle · 25/03/2017 16:32

I don't quite get why you take your kid to various shops still in their ballet stuff? Any time mine did activities we always got changed afterwards.

Aside from that nobody cares what you did today.

Emmageddon · 25/03/2017 16:33

Lots of boys do dance classes, is he the only boy in the class? When my sons did dance, there were lots of other boys - it was around the time street dancing became popular though, so not ballet or tap, more swiveling around on one's head whilst zigzagging the legs type of dancing - a tutu would never have worked.

steff13 · 25/03/2017 16:37

I usually put pants (trousers) on my daughter and a top if it's cold. And street shoes; you're not allowed to wear ballet shoes outside the studio.

ImperialBlether · 25/03/2017 16:39

Why are people so daft? It's clear he's been doing ballet for four months, not that he's done it since he was four months old!

VladmirsPoutine · 25/03/2017 16:40

Has the revolution already started!? I'm still having a cup of tea... please do wait for me!

KungFuEric · 25/03/2017 16:41

I find it unpleasant posting pictures of young children in a debate on the internet without their consent, which obviously they are unable to give.

Your son is going to grow up and may not appreciate his image being shared in this way op.

Moussemoose · 25/03/2017 16:42

I think he looks lovely.
I'm glad no one commented.

He also looks happy.Smile

Eric do you really think this thread will be traceable in 10 years time?

DameDeDoubtance · 25/03/2017 16:49

He isn't wearing a girls dress, he's wearing his dress.

IvyLeagueUnderTheSea · 25/03/2017 16:50

Did you make a point of letting everyone know he was a boy?
'Come on Dave, don't let your dress get tangled up in the prawn ring'

namechangeneighbour · 25/03/2017 16:59

Small child who looks like a girl wears dress. Of course no one batted an eyelid.
