AIBU to let four year old DS drink some of my Koppaburg?

I know this sounds so unreasonable, but I feel so sleep deprived and I think I'm going crazy. My DS has been up for three nights now, he just doesn't sleep for more than four hours and never naps. My mum says to give him a little tipple to help him. Eyeing up my bottle of Koppaburg and wondering if I should give him a little sip? I literally don't know what else to do to get him to sleep

Melatonin.
Look on iHerb.

FriendofBill · 25/03/2017 13:36

Do not give alcohol.
Alcoholism is real.

dementedpixie · 25/03/2017 13:36

Yes yabu. What about piriton, at least that would be legal to give

MrsTwix · 25/03/2017 13:37

It's illegal to give alcohol to under 5s. I know it was normal in your mums day, but it could do damage. I have every sympathy though, sleep deprivation is torture quite literally.

Asmoto · 25/03/2017 13:37

Isn't it illegal for children under five to be given alcoholic drinks?

GruffaloPants · 25/03/2017 13:37

Go to the doctor.

Don't give him alcohol.

Beware that the utter cunts from the Sun and Daily Mail like threads like this.

armpitz · 25/03/2017 13:37

'I know this sounds so unreasonable '

You're not wrong, OP Hmm

Bluntness100 · 25/03/2017 13:38

Don't give him alcohol. Their liver is not yet developed and they can't process it. It can actually cos some damage.

user1483387154 · 25/03/2017 13:39

Of course YABU FFS

WorraLiberty · 25/03/2017 13:40

No don't do it. You'd never forgive yourself if he reacted badly and anyway, how do you know what 'dose' to give?

At least in the past when gripe water contained alcohol, there was a dosage on the bottle.

pollymere · 25/03/2017 13:40

Sadly, I'm not sure that's the answer. Could your Mum not take him instead whilst you catch up on some sleep? My Mum had this problem with me until I learnt to read and I find I get insomnia when my brain doesn't have enough to do. Maybe it's his brain rather than say running around a park which is keeping him awake so get him learning? There are loads of books teaching phonics and maths. Otherwise warm bath, story etc. Feed him bananas and turkey which are far more likely to send you to sleep than alcohol.

Moanyoldcow · 25/03/2017 13:41

Piriton if your child is old enough. Definitely NOT alcohol.

MyScaryHairyMary · 25/03/2017 13:43

Are prescription drugs really better than alcohol though?

OP posts:
user1490123259 · 25/03/2017 13:43

it would be a criminal offence, and potentially very dangerous, even possibly deadly.

WorraLiberty · 25/03/2017 13:45

Are prescription drugs really better than alcohol though?

Well yes of course because they're prescribed by a medical professional.

What dosage of alcohol would you give your DC and what would you base it on?

Your boy is not sleeping; you've been to the GP and started investigations into why? A sleep clinic ref might be helpful. Sleep issues can be associated with other health issues, any thoughts around this?

Of course please don't give him alcohol, you know it isn't right.

Hulder · 25/03/2017 13:50

Of course YABU. Especially as Koppaberg tastes very much like a sweet soft drink so disastrous around children.

Piriton not the answer either.

Have a look at his whole day and post for sleep training advice.

Gingernaut · 25/03/2017 13:52

What's happening during the day that he's not sleeping at night?

Hannahbanana1725 · 25/03/2017 13:55

Wtf is wrong with you. Wanting to give your 4 year old alcohol? I'd say it's child abuse.

MiddleClassProblem · 25/03/2017 13:56

YABU. It's illegal under 5 but also is imagine cider is quite sugary so may not have the sleepy side effect anyway.

I would take him to the gp as 4hrs is very little sleep for a whole day and night and there mibght be something else going on.

Save the booze for you!

LaurieMarlow · 25/03/2017 13:57

Dear god no

blueskyinmarch · 25/03/2017 13:59

How old is he?

OurFlo · 25/03/2017 13:59

YABU.
Take him to the GP in case there is any underlying cause but don't get in to the habit of giving him anything to get him sleep unless it is prescribed. You will be making the problem worse in the long term.

MyScaryHairyMary · 25/03/2017 14:00

blue Four. Almost five though
