How can you not like Billy Mack?

London lad slaying the ladies in America is a total piss-take - come on!

Why would a person who hasn't seen Love Actually open a thread about Love Actually to post that they have never seen it?

Andrew Lincoln was a creepy stalker. Laura Linney should have got her rocks off with the hunky co-worker. Martine isn't exactly chunky in it. And there are lots of other things really wrong with the film. But it's still watchable cheese Grin

theDowager - I used to think that, until I moved to America and experienced first hand the "I love your accent" comments. Seriously, if I rang people up at work they would put me on speaker phone so the office could hear me talk, or people on conference calls would interrupt to tell me how much they love my accent. I can completely see how someone in a position to do so could use a British accent to help get laid Hmm Grin

Loved Billy Mac, Emma & Alan. I love the proposal scene. Hated the prime minister & kiera knightly & school crush & Colin storylines. The scene with the woman with her office crush in her bedroom were cringe.

I love it. Hated it the first time but it grew on me. You not watched it enough op yet! 😜

It feels like such a cynical film to me, paint-by-numbers sentimentality, designed to pull at heartstrings in a really jaded way.

Not a fan.

I agree Olenna - but that whole story line is still totally and obviously OTT!

I love it!

And I have no shame!

God I HATE IT!
Corny scrip, cringy, embarrassing acting from the usual suspects. Plus it has that awful McCutcheon in it doing her usual fey nonsense.
I also despise Xmas for the same reasons so frankly it has no redeeming features.

I can't bear it. Martine is bad, the plot's bad...

It lost me at 'Piss it'

Who says that? Just proves Richard Curtis has only seen working class people in books.

Hugh Grant's speech makes me cringe so hard my arsehole creeps up my back and ends up on my head.

That stupid fucking Boden-attired kid learning to play the drums in a week just so he could stalk that lass.. I wanted airport security to bring him down at the end.

Martine McCutcheon being described throughout as fat. Ok then.

Richard Curtis films have a distinct whiff of ingrained misogyny about them. I lasted about ten minutes of About Time too. He's an over privileged, overly sentimental, one dimensional, ivory tower-dwelling charlatan, imo.

Four pages and no one has mentioned Hugh Grant's bile inducing dad dancing to the Pointer Sisters.

I live in Sweden and they show it all the time. I always think of mumsnet with the American girl caring for her brother storyline. I imagine mumsnet shouting 'put you brother on block and establish boundaries, you have the right to shag that a gorgeous work colleague after a Christmas party'

I love it, it's my official wrapping Christmas presents film.

Different people like different things shocker....

I enjoy Love Actually. Of course it's not serious, award winning stuff, but as a bit of sentimental fluff around Christmas it does the job for me.

What squoosh said :

"Four words."

"Hot."
"Semi."
"Naked."
"Karl."

But, yes, I love LA anyway - well, most of it!

Does anyone have a link to the Comic Relief sequel? I missed it last night.

Report
FruSkogKattOla · 25/03/2017 10:37

I believe it was on at about 9.30 last night (according to a thread in Telly Addicts!) I recorded Comic Relief only for the LA sequel - but haven't had time to watch it yet.

Thanks Fru . I found it on Elle's website.

They should re-make it with just the Emma/Alan storyline.

Keira K is face-meltingly awful.

I love it because of its very awful shameless cheesiness. It is not a film that takes itself seriously.

Love the Emma Thompson/Alan Rickmansworth storyline.
Absolutely hate with a passion the Andrew Lincoln bit with the cards at the door. Back off Andrew she just got fucking married!

Report
ButtercupChain · 25/03/2017 18:51

It is OTT, and Martine saying 'piss it' instead of saying 'sod it' is daft. And the woman whose brother rang in the middle of her shagging did me in. (FFS, take the phone off the hook for half an hour!)

Posted too soon!

I love Billy Mack too, and the Emma/Alan storyline. And the guy going to America for a girlfriend is OK. Also love the sing-song at the wedding 'all you need is love....' :)

Quite like the Colin Firth falling for his nanny bit, but find a it a tad hard to fathom how you can fall in love with someone when you don't speak the same language. Confused

Dislike the little boy being obsessed with that little girl too.

I do loathe the bit of the storyline based around the couple making a porn film though. I don't think I am prudish; it's just a bit weird/distasteful/unnecessary.

Keira K is OK, but her constant annoying 'looking down her nose whilst pouting' look really pisses me off.

On the whole I give it a 6.5 out of 10. :)

I do quite enjoy it at Christmas, but it is a little bit over-rated I think.
