The Republican Waterloo

Conservatives once warned that Obamacare would produce the Democratic Waterloo. Their inability to accept the principle of universal coverage has, instead, led to their own defeat.

Tweet from Hillary

"More
Today was a victory for all Americans.

There is more, I can't copy and paste but here it is.

Trump will have a face resembling a bulldog chewing a wasp.

Roussette · 25/03/2017 07:32

Actually this article is far better.

egosumquisum1 · 25/03/2017 07:34

In what democracy do you blame the opposition for not supporting you when you can't get enough support from your own side to get your bill through?

In most democracies, people would look at the bill, water it down and find a way to get enough of the representatives on board.

Earlier Mr Ryan told reporters: "We are going to be living with Obamacare for the foreseeable future.
"I will not sugar coat this. This is a disappointing day for us. Doing big things is hard.
"We were a 10-year opposition party where being against things was easy to do," he said, adding that it was difficult to get "people to agree with each other in how we do things".

No shit - being in opposition and saying what's wrong is the easy bit. There are plenty of people who tweet like that. Getting agreement is much harder.

Lweji · 25/03/2017 08:00

This is how bad GOP is.
They may have won the last elections. In every front, but it's not the Democrats that have the biggest problems.
They have a joke president and a divided party with some very conservative nasty elements.

I'd laugh if it wasn't so sad.

And feel pity every time a Trumpette says they're tired of winning and speak of snowflake liberals.

GOP is a disaster and are on their way to make the US a disaster too.

For now, they're all an international laughing stock.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 25/03/2017 08:03

It really is a good recap!

I'd like to watch it Pain but it won't load on my laptop for some reason.

Having had a virus not so long ago, I'm not going to persist!

Yes Lewji agree with all you say. The GOP is laughable. Trump is pathetic.

I can't get over blaming the Democrats for the failure of the Healthcare Bill, yet ignoring the 44 Rep majority! The Press should rip them apart for that.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 25/03/2017 08:19

It is truly astonishing that he calls it the fault of the democrats.

merrymouse · 25/03/2017 08:20

In business, Trump's strategy of completely ditching a failed venture makes sense.

If he launches a product that is complete rubbish (Trump Vodka? Trump mortgages?) after a blaze of publicity he can just walk away if it doesn't work out. If the market needs Vodka, or mortgages and somebody else has a better product, they will provide. If nobody wants Vodka, who cares? If the Smirnoff brand falls apart, maybe there will be more vodka opportunities in the future.

However, Trump's administration is responsible for US government healthcare policy for the next 4 years.

If he allows Obamacare to 'fail' without coming up with a better plan people will suffer. Will Americans really allow him to do nothing and blame Democrats?
