AIBU to send DS into school wearing this masterpiece for comic relief?

My DS (4) has crazy hat day tomorrow for comic relief and I thought I'd be inventive and make him a paper mache volcano hat. Tinsel to be added to create a lava effect, and red paint also will be added for lava streams etc, and another coat of the brown paint but I'm slightly worried about the current effect. Does anyone else think that it looks slightly.....suspect??? BlushGrin

Should I go back to the drawing board while I still have time and credibility?

He is definitely going in with it tomorrow, even though his little 4 yr old neck cannot really support the weight of the damn thing. Daren't put string or ribbon on it to secure it or I'll end up garrotting him!

There is a competition, I shall keep you all updated as to how he gets on. If his legs don't give way under the weight on the way to school

I've definitely outed myself if any of his friends mums are on here!!

This is the funniest thread I've seen in ages!

Please post a picture of the finished article.

Oh and well done. I'm really crap at anything creative and would actually be quite proud to have made something like this!

ChrisYoungFuckingRocks · 23/03/2017 22:15

If I got him to add some model people screaming and running away from Mt Gorilla's Bellend

So you're going to give it lice??? Shock

CoolCarrie · 23/03/2017 22:15

Could you paint it a different colour at all?

ArriettyClock1 · 23/03/2017 22:16

Oh bless it! It's not bad!

Not sure what those sprouts around the rim are?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 23/03/2017 22:16

My DTDs school has taken the easy option (for us parents anyway). The only dressing up rule for tomorrow is that they wear red. Phew!

Mandatorymongoose · 23/03/2017 22:34

Screenshot of the pictures!

It's a beautiful volcano OP. Those sprouts really make it Grin

Love the sprouts Grin

This thread has sent me back to Sinister Easter Bonnet, which I do occasionally if I want a giggle.

Heinousfauxpas · 23/03/2017 22:49

Well the theme is 'Crazy' hat day. It certainly fulfills the 'crazy' part. It looks like some sort of bloodthirsty alien cactus. With a parasitic sprout colony inhabiting its base. Nice work. If there's a prize for 'weirdest', you are definitely up there with the contenders.

nakedscientist · 23/03/2017 22:50

The tinsel and the " sprouts" are giving it a weird Christmas pudding vibe now! It's fab Grin

FeelingSmurfy · 23/03/2017 23:06

I can see the pictures mongoose has posted Halo thankyou

It definitely looks more volcanic...until you get to the sprouts Grin top marks for effort, presentation and cheering up MN on a Thursday night! Star

Maybe you could say it's a really wacky hat, he you went for a Christmas / volcano mashup! Hence the tinsel lava and sprout trees Grin

AutumnalLeaves38 · 24/03/2017 00:33

Hooray for mongoose, you little gem Star ...can finally satisfy my curiosity and see the end result.

And may I say, OP, you're a bloody genius...

Whether by accident or design, you've created a quirky, multipurpose item, which, with a couple of tweaks as necessary, will easily solve costume dilemmas for all future Xmas/ Hallowe'en/ Easter/ Fancy Dress parties:

Xmas: exchange the red lava rivulets for white, add spots and a holly sprig = instant Xmas pudding (with sprout adornment! Perfectly in theme).

Hallowe'en: add a pointed top, repaint black, add stars & moon stickers, remove sprouts = instant wizard's hat.

Easter: repaint pastel shade, add handle, exchange sprouts for fluffy chicks (not real ones: they're lax at staying in a circle formation), fill top with decorative eggs = instant Easter basket.

Fancy Dress/ any charity competition: you've clearly got one Hell of an imagination (!), so possibilities are endless.

Great work. And thanks for providing us MNers with many laughs along the way Grin Grin

AutumnalLeaves38 · 24/03/2017 00:38

Oh, and excellent work by MsJamie as well.

TaffetaMuttonfudge · 24/03/2017 05:02

Ok so been up since 2 with full-of-cold grumpy baby. So I made another hat. I really couldn't send him in the original because I can't look at it without thinking it looks dodgy, it's too heavy (and also worried about being outed in RL - not sure why, but anxiety is a weird thing). Won't post the new one but needless to say it looks nothing like the original and is very age appropriate!

Thank you all for making me laugh, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Well if he isn't going to wear your masterpiece, you should. You'll be the belle of the playground

doublesnap · 24/03/2017 06:51

The teachers will never forget it for all the wrong reasons

icelolly99 · 24/03/2017 09:15

This has been such a funny read; thank you.
Also impressed by AutumnalLeaves38 wonderfully creative ideas Grin

FontSnob · 24/03/2017 17:34

Hahahah. It looks um....infected. Nice work lady.

KJPxx · 24/03/2017 17:36

I think maybe add some extra around the base to make it more volcano shaped, and with the lava etc effect it will look great! Did have a chuckle though - surely at 4 the kids won't have the same (dirty) minds as adults!!
