To not want to spend £67 on a Beauty & the Beast glass ornament?

Dd3 is obsessed with the new Beauty and the Beast film. She spends all of her time listening to the soundtrack. Now she has seen this glass ornament thing - it is £67. Although it's her birthday in 2 weeks, I had already bought her presents. Is it me or does this film merchandise get more and more expensive with every film? Now most of it is outstripping the cost of the Frozen dresses. You can get a set of dolls for £500, no less!!

I prefer the Tesco one!

OhSoggyBiscuit · 23/03/2017 12:14

It seems more of a adult collectible item then a toy, plenty of cheap toy tat for B&TB of that's what you want.

KoalaDownUnder · 23/03/2017 12:14

Children remember when parents fob them off with a cheap imitations, and they value themselves less because of it.

This has (probably disproportionately) pissed me off.

There are many things that make children value themselves less, but cheaper presents is not one of them.

Talk about buying into consumerist bollocks.

LagunaBubbles · 23/03/2017 12:18

Whereabouts are you OP? If you are close to Glasgow I will meet you, bring a dome...I can make fondant roses and will make you one!

RJnomore1 · 23/03/2017 12:19

Does she want cheap touvtat or would she keep it and treasure it?

What are the other things you got for her birthday, did she ask for them?

KarmaKit · 23/03/2017 12:23

A florist local to me does these, some (not sure about this one specifically) are guaranteed to last a year but can be more if they're "looked after properly" (not sure what that entails). Might be worth looking to see if any florists near you do them?

How old is she?

That's an adult collectors item, not a child's toy.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 23/03/2017 12:25

Tsk splendide what are you thinking of.
Not suitable for children under 15.

lottieandmia · 23/03/2017 12:26

Laguna - that's so kind of you. Unfortunately I'm a long way from Glasgow!

Koala - I know what the person making that comment meant. I've seen a lot of posts on here where people say they always wanted X but they got a knitted one Grin I don't think it's about cost. I know loads of people who always wanted a Mr Frosty,

Alexander - excellent. I'll just tell her it's for adults. Seriously that is the best explanation she's likely to accept I think!

Got to fund Emma Watson's acting talent bypass somehow.

GooodMythicalMorning · 23/03/2017 12:28

Yes its definitely not a toy hence being in the glass cab.

Cocolepew · 23/03/2017 12:29

There are loads on esty and ebay.
Argos has a jewellery box too.

JackieMac77 · 23/03/2017 12:37

Don't buy it yet, but say that she can have it for Christmas if she still wants it then. I imagine there will be tsunami of B & The B tat arrive in the shops way before December, and there may be something she wants more (and is possibly less shit/better value).

PoorYorick · 23/03/2017 12:40

Get a few craft things together, buy a cheap plastic dome and help her to make her own? Paper flowers are pretty straightforward, there are kits.

RJnomore1 · 23/03/2017 12:40

I think it matters whether the stuff you got for her birthday is stuff she asked for already as well

hennaoj · 23/03/2017 12:41

On the upside it may actually increase in value.

My daughter 11 just made me roar, I asked her view on these and also if she remembered me commenting on it a London Disney Store when we were down a few weeks ago - she said "No but in all fairness I was probably distracted by the ugly Emma Watson doll, that was grim"

lottieandmia · 23/03/2017 12:46

Her main present is a surprise - it's a (expensive!) handmade doll which has been made to look exactly like her character in Rob lox (another obsession of hers!) . I think she will love this. She's also asked for sylvanian families which my parents are getting her.

OP posts:
lottieandmia · 23/03/2017 12:47

Yes the doll really doesn't look anything like Emma Watson!

Well to be fair they are utterly terrifying. They made me wonder if Belle had got on the wrong end of Rapuzel's frying pan. Or just turned into a 45 year old man.
