To not want to spend £67 on a Beauty & the Beast glass ornament?

Dd3 is obsessed with the new Beauty and the Beast film. She spends all of her time listening to the soundtrack. Now she has seen this glass ornament thing - it is £67. Although it's her birthday in 2 weeks, I had already bought her presents. Is it me or does this film merchandise get more and more expensive with every film? Now most of it is outstripping the cost of the Frozen dresses. You can get a set of dolls for £500, no less!!

Of course you can make one!

  1. cut the top off a plastic fizzy drinks bottle.

  2. paint a twig green

  3. place twig in ball of plasticine or similar

  4. fix a piece of rolled up red tissue to look like a rose on top of twig

  5. use a pin or sharp end of compass to 'etch' her name in the drinks bottle plastic dome

  6. place the handcrafted dome over the handcrafted rose

Voila! (It won't look shit at all Grin)

Good plan about waiting and seeing if she still wants it 9 months from now OP. £67 is a lot to spend on a last minute additional birthday gift.

youngestisapsycho · 23/03/2017 11:23

Its horrible.. looks like one of those Facebook tat selling thingies!

Piffyonarockbun · 23/03/2017 11:23

Ive seen people selling similar things on facebook (ive managed to not be banned from craft, craft and more craft Smile) and they often turn up on there. Theyre a lot cheaper and imo nicer and im sure one of them would be able to put a name on?

CaoNiMartacus · 23/03/2017 11:23

The alternative versions make the "original" 67 quid jobbie look like a cheap and nasty imitation! Awful workmanship, on the stem especially. At least the Tesco one actually looks like a rose, not a wadded-up nosebleed hanky.

ElinorRigby · 23/03/2017 11:25

I find the word 'no' useful....

lottieandmia · 23/03/2017 11:31

Yes I thought that - WTAF is going on with that stem?!

The Tesco one linked above is much prettier! Why not show her a picture of that one and see what she thinks? As he already knows she wants a rose ornament it won't ruin the surprise as such. Having said that I have a sibling on the spectrum so I do know how things must be just so Grin saving it for main Christmas is a good idea too.

On another note, Primark are doing a range of Beauty and the Beast stuff (and a lot of Disney stuff in general) which includes a Chip tea cup (have seen on Twitter). If you have a big one near you they might have some good last minute present ideas.

CoolCarrie · 23/03/2017 11:34

The stem looks awful in the Disney one, not a delicate rose at all. At least the Tesco is useful for bits and bobs. Why not get her that one very quickly as it will sell out i would think, and have a look on eBay/ etsy for a nice one.

lottieandmia · 23/03/2017 11:35

Thanks flibflob :)

The Tesco one is MUCH nicer.

£67 on an ornament she can't touch for a 7yo??? Seriously? No way. I'd tell her she could save up for it and buy it with her own money.

Goldfishjane · 23/03/2017 11:39

it hasn't even got Beauty in it! Or a sparkly tree!

Funny, I loved that stuff at this age but this would not have impressed even a 7 year old me Grin

There's a £32 one at Disney store too

squoosh · 23/03/2017 11:44

I've just google the Primark mug, it's very cute and a much more acceptable £5. If you can find one!

No way op, just more shit to dust imho.
Dd is the same age and was insisting on the new belle costume from disney, bought one from sainsburys for £17. Shop around.

RJnomore1 · 23/03/2017 11:46

Rock how long till those start appearing on Facebook? 😂

d270r0 · 23/03/2017 11:49

A £67 glass ornament is not an appropriate present for a 7 year old, imo. I certainly wouldn't get it now for Christmas as that is a long way away and she might forget about it by then. Maybe if you saw it on a massive bargain! By christmas she might be obsessing about something completely different.

ClaireH26 · 23/03/2017 11:50

I would get it if I could afford it (obviously not if I couldn't) but then I'm a sucker and I hate my kids to be disappointed on their birthday. It's nice to have some things you can treasure, if she is a careful child that is.

lottieandmia · 23/03/2017 11:54

Thing is, I remember wanting some vile things as a child! Children have different taste to adults. I will definitely have a look in Primark for some extra bits - I've seen a lot of nice Disney things in there before. Also I'll see if I can get her some PJs. She may change her mind(!)

What is a three year old supposed to do with a glass ornament?

squoosh · 23/03/2017 12:09

No idea. But the OP's daughter is 7.

1AnnoyingOrange · 23/03/2017 12:11

What is anyone supposed to do with a glass ornament? Look at it!

I think the etsy one is far nicer. No way would i spend £67 on it. YANBU

jay55 · 23/03/2017 12:12

It's a very expensive dust collector.

GooodMythicalMorning · 23/03/2017 12:13

Its nicer in rl. Love mine
