To be worried

Sorry I'm posting for traffic, have already started a thread and had barely any replies. Not sure what I'm looking for really, a handhold or people who have been through similar.

Around 6-7 weeks ago, my ds aged 6 suddenly started complaining of hip/joint aches and pains. I put it down to growing pains.

3 weeks ago he went really lethargic, he sleeps 6-6.30 so is having enough sleep. His teachers started commenting that he was tired in school, told he has gone from a really happy active boy to quite irritable.

Managed to get him into the doctors, who checked him over, went through quite a lot with him. He's now urgently requested that he have full bloods done. And referred him urgently to a children's hospital.

He then told asked me what I thought they would be testing for, I have been googling and each time it comes up with leukaemia Sad. So I told asked my doctor that. He said that was a big worry and it's why he is referring him so quickly. He said the way my son has explained the pain and pointed it out it rules out other causes.

He's at hospital next Thursday, and I'm bloody terrified. Feel awful for not taking it seriously at first. I honestly just thought growing pains.

My other ds 3 is diagnosed epileptic, I'm petrified for what's to come for ds 6 now Sad

Would be grateful for anyone who has been through similar to reply.

Thanks for reading sorry if it's all mumbled I just feel so numb and not really explaining myself properly.

Hope all is ok OP.
If it is not good news take heart from the fact that leukaemia is very treatable. I was in your position a while back with my DD presenting with very similar symptoms, and unfortunately she did have leukaemia. She is in remission and has been for several years now and is fighting fit.
Flowers for you and thinking about you

Not really much of an update as still waiting for the last of the bloods to come back. They will give me the results when we go back in today.

Got him to hospital yesterday, they told us straight away they wanted to carry out another blood test and also want to do a scan.

We got there at 11.30 ish, my ds was hysterical when they said bloods again. So I took him for a walk and to get some food from the cafe hoping to calm him down. Managed to get the bloods done at 7ish last night. They let me take him home straight after as he was just inconsolable.

He was limping a lot on his hip and said he was in pain when I got him from school, so I think a mixture of everything just tipped him over to be honest. I'm glad they let me take him, he had a good sleep, getting ready to go back to the hospital now.

At the minute I still have no definite diagnosis, but it's not looking too good. Still holding out hope though.

My only worry is I don't want ds getting as distraught as he did yesterday, I've filled a bag with some new hot wheels and snacks, is there anything else I can do? They will probably want more bloods Sad

Sorry the post is all over the place, can't think straight. X

Do you have an iPad he can watch or play on as a treat?

When we had a particularly horrible medical incident with ds last week I let him browse the Amazon app on my phone for a new lego toy. That bought us quite a bit of time.

Fingers crossed for you. Flowers

Goondoit · 25/03/2017 11:07

Aw op thinking of you and your little one Flowers it's so hard when you don't know what's wrong and just want him to be back to normal xx were all here for you

HarryPottersMagicWand · 25/03/2017 11:09

Oh no. Good luck OP. They are dealing with whatever it is very quickly so u is being well looked after. Can you try and distract him with an early Easter egg as well or something? Hot Wheels and tablet would definitely help my DS as well but just trying to think of something else the would seem like a big treat to a child.

Good luck.

plutohasfeelingstoo · 25/03/2017 11:09

Hoping for the best op and that you get some news soon Flowers

HarryPottersMagicWand · 25/03/2017 11:10

Mcchickenbb41 · 25/03/2017 11:13

Probably a bit old fashioned but mine always loved looking through an Argos catalogue at the toys. My dd is in hospital sometimes with asthma and the kids playroom is brilliant she loves it. Yes to iPads etc. Puzzles is another one. Been checking this thread since 5 am when dh left for work. So so hoping for good news for you op. X

Icallbullshit3 · 25/03/2017 11:16

Specialagentblond · 25/03/2017 12:27

Hang in there, it sounds like you are doing everything you can.

I would enlist as much support as you can. It's times like these that those who love you will come through for you and your family.

Just wrap him up in cotton wool and be kind to yourself too x

TapOut · 25/03/2017 12:33

Hope your DS feels better soon.

BitOutOfPractice · 25/03/2017 12:35

Oh this is so awful for you all.

Best of luck for today

NeverTwerkNaked · 25/03/2017 12:52

So sorry, that sounds so stressful. Could you load a tablet with music/films or similar? Or promise a treat for after so they have something to focus on?

NeverTwerkNaked · 25/03/2017 12:53

Ps hope today goes as well as it can Flowers

MrsStinkey · 25/03/2017 13:04

Nothing to add here OP but came across your post this afternoon and wanted to say I'm thinking of you and also Flowers. hope today goes as well as possible for you.

SparklyGlitterPants · 25/03/2017 13:47

Oh op my heart goes out to you. Big hugs to you. My db had acute myeloid leukemia over 20 years ago, when treatment and prognosis was no where near as advanced as it is now. Db was given less than a 5% chance of survival.

He is now in his 30's over 6 foot and has a 2 year old dc. It was a hard road at the time for all of us but he came through it better than ever.

And please please please don't feel guilty. My parents didn't do anything for about 6 months after first symptoms started showing. They and the gp thought it was a viral infection that he kept catching/lingering.

Don't give up hope that it isn't leukemia, everything crossed for ye that it isn't. If, however it is take heart and hope from the recovery stories. It is one of the most treatable forms of childhood cancer and you have all of us here for hand holding and support. Unmumsnetty xxxx

Devilishpyjamas · 25/03/2017 13:51

Did they use a cannula for the bloods? It is easier for them if they do xxx

Youzavhawfinchedmaflag · 25/03/2017 13:54

Hope everything is OK OP Flowers
