To shave my face?

rackhampearl · 22/03/2017 10:59

I am 28 with blonde hair but i have quite noticeable facial hair. I keep seeing articles across social media about women shaving their face and that it's supposed to be brilliant for skin as it's essentially dermablading. The theory is that men look younger than women as they spend most of their life shaving, which in turn removes all the dead skin/exfoliates. AIBU to want to do this? Do any of you already shave your faces? Have you noticed any pros/cons? I don't want to add this to my beauty regime until I've heard from real women and not just the 'farticles' Grin

Don't do it OP. It will cause your hair to grow back thicker, darker and coarser and will cause dry skin etc and all the other problems men have with shaving. I have pcos so facial hair is a problem for me too. Waxing or threading would be better. Don't shave!!

gamerchick · 22/03/2017 11:04

I use an electric shaver (well I nicked the husbands) takes seconds a couple of times a day. I've never had any problems with skin.

Sallystyle · 22/03/2017 11:05

Don't shave.

I noticed some fine hairs around my lips a few months ago. I shaved them in a moment of stupidity. Now they come back as dark and thick hairs. I have caused myself more of a problem. I going to have to get them waxed now and they weren't even that bad in the first place.

Hecate - I am in a similar position with pcos. It's shite!

rackhampearl · 22/03/2017 11:08

Arghh. Now I'm back behind the sofa at the thought. I have PCOS. I get hairs from my chin, upper lip and two moles like things on my face. It's horrible. I get so conscious when up close to people but waxing causes me to break out as does hair removal cream. I tried epilating my upper lip once and nearly ripped my bastard lips off Hmm

I've been having my facial hair waxed since I turned 30.
I don't think you should shave your face.

Pippa12 · 22/03/2017 11:11

Electrolysis? Fairly lengthy process but improvements are noticible quickly and eventually a permanant result.

Honeybee79 · 22/03/2017 11:12

rackhampearl - have you tried lycon wax? It's much gentler on the skin than the usual hot wax and might help with breakouts. I get them to use it on my moustache and other facial hair.

Pippa12 · 22/03/2017 11:12

Please don't shave... once its done there is absoloutly no going back... ever!

rackhampearl · 22/03/2017 11:14

Is that expensive though Pippa ?

I'm a SAHM so don't have any disposable income for myself really. I have about £100 per month for essentials/treats.

Really wanted a quick fix but I'd be an idiot not to listen to fellow 'cysters' especially.

Thank you Huns Shock

I also have PCOS-I did find that LEP worked well for me. It lasted for several years and now needs doing again, but was good and not stupidly expensive.

LadyDeadpool · 22/03/2017 11:37

I shave, I have PCOS and being on benefits I can't afford much more than a 10p razor. I do have to do it every other day but it beats having a beard. Never had an ingrown hair and I swear the skin on my chin is silkier and softer than anywhere else!

Every other day? Really? Have you noticed it grows back thicker and darker since you started? I'm not really keen on the idea now but it's so painful plucking and time consuming too but it's the only method doesn't scab up my face :(

Lasering only works on dark hairs op. I have more facial hair now I am older (lack of hormones). I bought an inexpensive facial epilator and it isn't perfect but it gets a lot of them. I use tweezers for some. I too considered shaving but I would have ended up with 5 o'clock shadow as I have darkish hair! I got my epilator from the Fifty Plus catalogue. Can't remember the exact price but think it was between £10 - 15.

rackhampearl · 22/03/2017 11:46

See I forgot to mention that my hairs are very DARK

The hair on my head is blonde but my facial hair is black and coarse not fuzzy. I'm assuming that's because of the PCOS. Would I get a 5oclock shadow?

God sake. I'm fuming. I had just convinced myself to go for it! Ha. Suppose a scabby lip is better than a black tash? Or is it? Grrr

Twistmeandturnme · 22/03/2017 11:49

nono
Bestie with PCOS absolutely swears by hers.
I think they are quite expensive to buy initially but take seconds to use and pain/rash free.

user1471506380 · 22/03/2017 11:53

Something like this. www.amazon.co.uk/inkint-Pain-free-Electric-Depilator-Underarms/dp/B0194RTXAC/ref=sr_1_16_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1490183049&sr=8-16&keywords=epilators+for+women+face&tag=mumsnetforum-21

There are much dearer ones (over £100) but I wouldn't pay that much so don't know if they work better.

racheyc · 22/03/2017 12:03

Get a tinkle razor from Amazon. It's for eyebrows I use it on my peach fuzz hair comes back exactly the same soft you won't regret it! Sorry for lack of punctuation etc

user1471506380 · 22/03/2017 12:04

I buzz mine all over sides of face, chin and neck (ffs!) It doesn't hurt more than tweezering. I have just started getting dark hairs on sides of face (where a man's beard grows) hence my knowledge/ interest! I am hoping they will get finer. I plucked my lower legs years ago and now my legs are virtually hair free. Eyebrows and upper lip remains the same and I have been plucking those for donkey's years! Hope you find a solution that suits you op.

Notmyrealname85 · 22/03/2017 12:05

I actually do shave and have never had problems ... but... I shave downwards only (gently), and don't shave upper and lower tache as skin around my lips is more irritable (I stand behind a bright light to highlight the hairs, and clip with small scissors - I bought a spare pair of toe nail scissors for it)

Never had problems! Hair doesn't grow back thicker and darker btw, that's psychological. Otherwise every time we shave our legs we'd be like actual bears :)

Notmyrealname85 · 22/03/2017 12:06

And then maybe use specialist bleach for your top tache that's left over?

rackhampearl · 22/03/2017 12:07

racheyc that's what I've got waiting to use. It's still ultimately shaving though right? I got a pack of 3.

user Thank you! Gonna give epililating another shot. Hopefully build up my tolerance for it.
