To shave my face?

rackhampearl · 22/03/2017 10:59

I am 28 with blonde hair but i have quite noticeable facial hair. I keep seeing articles across social media about women shaving their face and that it's supposed to be brilliant for skin as it's essentially dermablading. The theory is that men look younger than women as they spend most of their life shaving, which in turn removes all the dead skin/exfoliates. AIBU to want to do this? Do any of you already shave your faces? Have you noticed any pros/cons? I don't want to add this to my beauty regime until I've heard from real women and not just the 'farticles' Grin

Yes but I somehow softer, I would never take a regular razor to my face. it's so easy and quick, I used to epilate daily but this is so much better and doesn't hurt

HillysChair · 22/03/2017 12:27

Meh I shave

It doesn't make them come back darker, cutting your hair on your face can't change how it grows!

Downwards only, every few days

kmc1111 · 22/03/2017 12:34

I shave my whole face. Makes make-up apply smoother.

The hair has never grown back thicker or darker.

BusterGonad · 22/03/2017 12:37

Shaving doesn't make the hair grow back thicker. It's a myth. Look up Lisa Eldridge, she had it done and gives a honest review.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 22/03/2017 12:41

watching with interest
I have awful hirsutism due to PCOS
not little downy fuzz - great big black coarse fuckers. they were just on my chin, but now seem to be spreading to my tache, sideburns, and under the chin. I have very fair skin so they are easy to see.

shaving sounds like the most pragmatic solution, but I am concerned that once I start there will be no stopping. I currently tweeze AM and PM.

Applebite · 22/03/2017 12:41

Shaving doesn't make it grow back darker or thicker. What is does is to cut the hair, so you get a more blunt appearance, which LOOKS darker and thicker sometimes.

I've had my top lip lasered (it was great, reduced it a lot, but the bloody salon went bust with half my treatments pre-paid for, and I haven't taken it up again anywhere else), and they shaved it before the treatment. I was also banned from waxing or bleaching in the periods between laser sessions because it would make it harder to blitz the little fuckers (I hate them, I hate them, I hate them so much) in the next session, so that meant shaving.

However, I wouldn't do it for any other reason. I second the nono or similar if you can find a cheap one on ebay or something?

racheyc · 22/03/2017 12:43

For dark hairs I use my Philips lumea which I use on chin and upper lip and body it has made the world of difference. I can go a month without shaving underarms and there isn't that dark shadow

BorpBorpBorp · 22/03/2017 12:48

I have PCOS and shave my face with a men's electric razor, which I've found is the best 'maintenance' solution for me when I have a lot of hair, much much better than a disposable razor. What has helped me long term is medication (Metformin) to stop the hair getting worse, and electrolysis to permanently get rid of what's there. In the weeks after an electro session, when I just have a few hairs, I tweeze them.

HouseworkIsASin10 · 22/03/2017 12:52

I shave my face every week. Around the tash and chin and fluffy cheeks.
It's never done me any harm. Doesn't grow back thicker or darker.

Used to use Jolen but a big glowing white tash was worse than embarrassing.

Kelsoooo · 22/03/2017 14:17

I use a tinkle razor and definitely no black or darker hairs. My makeup sits better, less spots, generally a win win.

CouldntMakeThisShitUp · 22/03/2017 18:11

THREADING! Simply loooooooove it!

Keeps my face smooth and hair free - picks up all the dead skin and itty bitty hairs.

The other thing i found is that i needed one shade higher in my foundation after threading - seems all those little hairs fooled me into believing i was darker than i actually am!

CoraPirbright · 22/03/2017 18:24

I got my yeti-like bikini line lasered. I am not sure if its ok on the face but I would def look into it. Utterly brilliant. I have NO HAIRS where I lasered. It is expensive though so I had to save up. Look out for offers (eg Harley Medical Group usually has a January sale type thing).

Pomtastic · 22/03/2017 18:29

Another shaver, every other day or so, for probably a decade now (ie hairs still grow at same rate).

No, there's no going back - but if you have PCOS there's no going back anyway tbh, and it's painless and takes literally seconds. Most practical solution for me.

BagittoGo · 22/03/2017 18:30

Laser hair removal would be your best bet. Shaving does not do the same as exfoliation or make you younger. Do you have PCOS?

ChristmasFluff · 22/03/2017 18:50

I have loads of white 'fluff' over my face, and also loads of black chin hairs (if I didn't pluck them) as I am beyond menopause. One day I'd just had enough, so I shaved the lot off. Yikes! Not only was it cold (who'd have thought the fluff was so warming?), but my jawline and neck had that 'last turkey in the shop' look about it, and my mouth wrinkles were thrown into sharp definition. I knew Marilyn Monroe had said her fluff meant she always took a good photo as it blurred her edges, but I hadn't realised it does that in real life too! So I've grown back the fluff, but I do still sometimes shave the bit under my chin where the worst of the black hairs are and I shave my moustache. I use an eyebrow razor cos they take out the dark hairs and leave some fluff behind so I don't have bare patches.

onceandneveragain · 22/03/2017 19:03

really don't understand what the posters saying 'there's no going back,' mean? Shaving one area of your body one time doesn't carve out a slice of your skin, irrevocably changing the appearance of hair growth in that area for the next 80 years Hmm Hmm Hmm It literally just means that the few hairs in that area have been removed temporarily, but will obviously regrow, as they would if you removed them via any other method. Please explain how removing said hairs outside of your skin by shaving magically means the hair follicles growing under your skin to drastically change appearance and become thicker, darker, coarser and whatever the fuck other rubbish you've made up, and then continue in this new pattern of growth for the rest of your life.

PeaFaceMcgee · 22/03/2017 19:20

A second vote for Phillips Lumea IPL - it really does work

Veronicat · 22/03/2017 19:34

I shave my face weekly and top lip every three days. It definitely makes me look younger and my skin look better. I've never had it grow back thicker and darker. I steal borrow my DPs razor and gel.

SilverMachine · 22/03/2017 19:35

Am also a PCOS sufferer and I swear by my Epistick. Seriously I wish I had discovered them years ago! They look like a big spring with handles at each end but are easy and quick to use. Very similar to threading and they cost just over a pound on EBay or Amazon.

Meekonsandwich · 22/03/2017 20:02

Hairs growing back thicker and darker is a myth. it does not grow back faster or anything like that.

It just feels that way because it's stubbly.

I have shaved my face before and it was fine. Makes it nice and smooth and glowy lots of models do it. But just be prepared for the upkeep of shaving at least every few days. But if you stop it will literally grow back like it is now. You will not magically have a dark 5 o'clock shadow or beard.

And exfoliate to prevent ingrown hairs. done.

rackhampearl · 22/03/2017 20:49

Sorry for late reply guys. Was doing the usual mum duties. To answer a few questions yes I do have PCOS, my hair is blonde and my facial hair is dark. I look like Rylan when he first hit the scene :D

I can't afford Lumia, NoNos or laser removal. That's why I wanted a quick fix. But anyway, some of the replies really creeped me out even though I was all up for trying it. Today I bit the bullet and epilated my top lip and chin. Hurt like a mother... but no rash, no hair. Will have to get used to that for now. Thanks Huns :)

I have to wax my face, but you can buy a face massager that is supposed to help stimulate the facial muscles similar

ditzychick34 · 22/03/2017 20:58

Could you try using a bleach like jolene (?) on any regrowth and see if any of the hairs are less obvious blond, means less to remove and regrow?

Orlandointhewilderness · 22/03/2017 21:01

I shave, have done for 16 years! Just chin and jawline and top lip. Downwards only for lip but provided a very sharp razor then both ways for my jaw. I am quite hairy there (PCOS again!) but sensitive skinned and redhead. I have NEVER had a spot, a rash, an ingrown hair or anything. Neither my family, my DP or my XDH have noticed. I do it every 2-3 days.

PeanutJuice · 22/03/2017 21:06

I do this. The dark hairs do come back dark, but they are dark to begin with so who cares? The peach fuzz and dead skin that comes off is so satisfying and the peach fuzz doesn't come back worse at all. Don't use a normal razor though, but brow razors (cheap set of 3 on amazon) and use them and only very sharp ones. Throw them when they get blunt. Your face feels very smooth after and make up goes on so much better! Thoroughly recommend
