However, before I do, I should probably point out that I was commenting on the veritable plethora of transgender threads that appear to be on this forum at the moment, rather than on the actual story itself.

This is exactly the sort of situation that creates complexity around the trans issue. This is a current news story about a serious criminal. Why make sarky comments about other threads?

I have sympathy with trans people and believe in freedom from discrimination. But the idea that women now have to endure a rapist amongst them because he (as he was then) was suffering bad treatment from other men is very skewed.

If half of what I read on MN is true, nearly everyone in female prisons is a trans sex offender, so fair play to the prison authority for keeping a lid on things.

I would be interested in seeing the statistics that show all the male convicts who have transitioned whilst in prison and requested to be transferred to a women's prison alongside the crime they were convicted for.

I'm willing to bet my house that they are overwhelmingly made up of rapists/sexual abusers.

And these arseholes are doing far more damage to the movement for people who are actually trans. These people are not trans. They are manipulating and exploiting legislation to get access to vulnerable people to continue their abuse.

Why not put them in confinement in the mail jail? I assume they won't be put in a cell with woman.

I always wonder why is it okay to have endless threads about parking (not a women's issue) but threads about the intersection between trans rights and women's rights, and the difficulties and questions and challenges that intersection prevents, are always met with "ffs not another bloody trans thread". This is a topic which is relevant and important to women's rights, whichever side of the fence you stand. If you don't want to read them, don't click on them.

Who's 'expressing horror about trans people' Fried? This thread is about expressing horror at a male bodied offender being housed with females because of his feelings. That is bloody horrific and i can't believe it's happening.

A man who has raped women with their penis should never EVER be housed in close quarters with women even if he has had the relevant parts removed. He is still a violent male offender.

Considering that women are much less likely to be criminal than men ... yes, it is quite likely that we are rapidly approaching a point at which the majority of prisoners in women's prisons are trans sex offenders. Transwomen who are not sex offenders would not want to make women uncomfortable by demanding access to the women's prison, after all.

The reason there are so many threads on transgender issue is that it's a HUGE FUCKING DEAL that women's rights are being threatened. Sorry if it isn't all pushchair battles and parking wars and Boden jackets, FFS.

If you commit a crime with your genitals, then it stands to reason that you go to the prison with people who have the same genitalia as you. Regardless of your gender.
