You don't feed many kids peanuts.
You don't feed many kids gluten.
You don't feed other people's dogs cakes in the park.
Soo... WTF do people walk about trying to give my kid sweets constantly - other kids, parents, strangers even teachers!

Many kids have blood sugar, obesity, tooth enamel and issues with food colouring. Peanuts at least have nutritional value but WTF is the point of forcing sweets on children???

Apologies for ranting but am a bit fed up with it!!

Mmmmmm my kids love a good dose of gluten and peanuts, I try and sneak them to the neighbourhood kids as much as I can. Not those bloody teeth rotting sweets though! No way, I'm not the devil!

Onlyaplasticbagdear · 21/03/2017 18:05

Also do you really hate cake as if so I cannot take anything you say seriously.

StripyHorse · 21/03/2017 18:08

Do you mean teachers giving all the children a small choc bar / haribos etc. at the end of term? How terrible for them to spend their own money on a small treat for their pupils.

I know of at least one school where they can't do this though because parents complained.

blueskyinmarch · 21/03/2017 18:09

I fed my children gluten - a lot. All those sandwiches. I didn’t realise this was a bad thing.

They didn’t like peanuts so i ate them myself.

They also ate quite a lot of sweets - i am a BAD MOTHER. They both have perfect teeth though.

Tell us how ‘constantly’ people are feeding your children sweets? Do they use those funnels they use to feed geese for fois gras?

Despairbunny · 21/03/2017 18:10

Oh Stripy. That's sad.

blueskyinmarch · 21/03/2017 18:10

Also why do you hate cake? I don’t trust people who hate cake. Cake makes everything better in the world. That and gin.

deadringer · 21/03/2017 18:13

I am quite strange but i promise i won't give your kids sweets. Hth

motherinferior · 21/03/2017 18:13

You can get gluten free cake and gin is definitely gluten-free.

I fed every damn child through these doors gluten, I suspect. Pasta. Food of the gods. The gods of pasta.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 21/03/2017 18:14

You don't feed other people's dogs cakes in the park.

You don't tend to feed other peoples children cake in the park either...

Serialweightwatcher · 21/03/2017 18:14

I've never found anyone constantly giving my kids sweets - hardly ever actually .... why don't you get a tub and tell them if sweets are handed to them by all these people Hmm that they should put them in there and you can tell them when they can have a treat

Topseyt · 21/03/2017 18:15

Nobody ever offered my kids sweets! What circles do you move in?

Clearly I didn't get out enough when they were young, so they have missed out horrendously and will be traumatised for life.😨

Trifleorbust · 21/03/2017 18:15

Someone is force-feeding your child sweets?

dylsmimi · 21/03/2017 18:20

But they are your children
You simply say 'thank you - let's save these for after lunch/tomorrow/etc' and then decide how much you want your children to have.
In our house the dc ask before having sweets that have been given out for birthdays etc and if I say no then that means no! Often sweets get put in the cupboard, forgotten about and dished back out at Halloween!
They also know they are not allowed lollipops so ask to swap it for some chocolate
No need to get so stressed about it all !

Katedotness1963 · 21/03/2017 18:21

We live in Germany. When our kids were little they were forever getting treats when we took them out. In our town one bakery had a drawer that opened on the customers side of the counter and was filled with biscuits for the kids who came in. The other bakery handed out full sized, fresh baked pretzels. The supermarket gave kids mini haribo bags. We took the boys to have their photos taken, more haribo advertising the photographer. Restaurants gave a sweet treat after the meal. The first time we took them home for a visit they stood, expectantly in the bakery, sorry kids, nothing for nothing there!

MongerTruffle · 21/03/2017 18:23

Why would you refuse to give a child gluten (unless of course they had coeliac disease)?

harderandharder2breathe · 21/03/2017 18:24

Who exactly is feeding your kids sweets CONSTANTLY?

Teachers/after school activity leaders giving sweets as an occasional treat FINE
friends sharing sweets FINE
Grandparents spoiling kids if they're babysitting PUT UP OR PAY for chikdcare
Strangers giving sweets is a bit odd but a) I don't believe for a second that they are and b) supervise your child and say no thank you

DID YOU REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR KID'S HALLOWEEN COSTUME OFF, OP??????

MongerTruffle · 21/03/2017 18:34

Many kids have blood sugar, obesity, tooth enamel and issues with food colouring.

Very few children don't have tooth enamel. Confused

ArriettyClock1 · 21/03/2017 18:36

Who is giving your child sweets?

I have never come across strangers or otherwise giving my children sweets. Little bags of Haribo for the class if it's your birthday were banned aeons ago.

As an aside, we never gave ours sweets when they were little. Nothing set in stone - we just never bought them.

They are teens now and categorically have not turned into sugar craving sweet addicts. In fact, they don't have a sweet tooth between them. It annoys me when people assume avoiding confectionary has the effect of making people addicted to it once they are old enough to decide for themselves.

JustAnotherSilentOldNumber · 21/03/2017 18:39

Do you live next door to the shop from the opening of Charlie and the chocolate factory?

Silvercatowner · 21/03/2017 18:40

" Many kids have blood sugar, obesity, tooth enamel and issues with food colouring.

Most kids also have blood sugar.

SparkleTwinkleGoldGlitter · 21/03/2017 18:43

Do you live next door to the shop from the opening of Charlie and the chocolate factory? I bloody wish I did

bookworm14 · 21/03/2017 18:45

What do you mean "you don't feed many kids gluten"? Gluten is a perfectly normal foodstuff.

Miloarmadillo1 · 21/03/2017 18:45

I must be the lone person who also finds this annoying. Sweets for every classmates' birthday, sweets at afterschool club, sweets at Sunday school for completing a worksheet, ridiculous amounts of sweets in every party bag.....
