To be pissed off my council tax is higher than my neighbours?

Just had my new council tax bill which has increased. After looking into it, I've discovered that mine one other house in the street are in a different CT band to the rest.

I live in a 3 bed end terrace. It is slightly bigger, square footage wise than some of the others but certainly not the biggest. My ndn has a similar sized house but 4 bed and theirs is lower ct! How does it work??

In our case LHS ndn was an E, we were an E and RHS ndn was a D.

All the houses were built the same. LHS had added a double storey extension very recently. Ours was as original. RHS was almost as original, a small conservatory added.

There is no fairness at all to it though. My friend lives in another street and is a D. Her house is worth 100k more than ours easily. Yet we were graded an E. It's fucked up really.

I don't think they'll regrade the whole street. If your ndn is paying less than you, challenge it.

It was quite strange though the process. We were initially sent a letter that was quite lengthy saying no you can't have it and you have no right to appeal. Which is just bloody odd when your ndn has a better house than you and is paying less. Then a few weeks later we got a phone call from a woman saying she was auditing the results and thought we should have it after all.

Go onto the VOA website and check what all your neighbours are paying.

You may find you bill comes down and your neighbour's go up.

Definitely check it out and appeal if there appears to be a discrepancy!

My OH did that with his property and got a CT refund of almost 2 grand when they put it onto a lower banding

Yes we got two thousand in back pay because we'd been here about 8 years by then.

Where I live that's unheard of. They just raise them all accordingly. Great way to piss off all your neighbors. Not doubting you but it must be my tight arse council (notoriously money grabbing anyway).
