Wtf ambo? Inspo? Sainsbo?

I probably am being unreasonable and particularly old/middle aged but wtf is the deal with ending words with bo and po?

I regularly see posts referring to sainsbo (Sainsbury's) and it took me ages to work out wtf they meant. Same with ambo (ambulance) and inspo (inspiration)

I am a very literal person and it takes me ages to decode these bastardisations of words. Do people actually speak like ''tis in real life or is it an online phenomenon? Is this some yummy mummy language (I only see it in places like mn) or am I just not down wit da yoof?

Yes, yes, yes to all of these!

Can I also add the word "critters". Why? Surely it's just as quick to say "creatures". Confused

Nothing is so insanely irritating as using the word "like" before any verb, adverb or adjective in conversation.
Also substituting the letter "T" in words with the letter"C" or "K" ie hospical, likkle"

YANBU OP, I didn't open this thread for a while as I found the thread title so annoying.
Did it hurt to type it? Grin

Ambo has always been ambo, for as long as I can remember. My paramedic dad, now in his 70s, always called them that and they've always been called that in the police where I work now!
Maybe it's an emergency services thing.

The rest- nonsense!!

(Also Sambo is very confusing as it's actually a type of Russian wrestling...)

'Ambo' is definitely Aussie... I've watched too much police/medical t.v. from Down Under, sorry. Honkers was universally Hong Kong when we lived there (RAF wife) in the late 60s/early 70s. As for the rest of it, I dunno, my teenage years were in the late 1950s/early 60s, I imagine we had our own version of it! Grin

I've only ever seen or heard Sainsbo's on MN. Primani is bad enough - recently seen it spelt as Primarnie Confused

Devo - for devastated.
As in I was at a funeral, everyone was devo.
Still jars me to hear that one.

Don't forget the Salvos (Salvation Army) which is a type of 'op shop' aka charity shop and smoko for smoke break.

Gotta love a bottle-o tho, specially a drive through bottle-o with a walk in fridge.
Usually with Stevo and Damo behind the counter.
Never. Leaving. Australia.

They were probably going for Primarni. Marni is the name of a luxe Italian fashion label.

Surely the point of these abominations of language is to abbreviate and not lengthen?
