If you get chub rub what do you wear on holiday?

Argh. I'm fat. You may be the same size as me and not be fat but I'm fat. I go on holiday somewhere warm in 3 weeks. I get terrible chub rub- painful blisters and holes in my trousers chub rub. I've tried everything - deodorant, lube, the special creams, sudocream and followed the other posts on the subject only to end up with really painful blisters that leave me walking like John Wayne.

So AIBU to ask for suggestions on what to wear on holiday? I'm a massively out of proportion pear shape (18 bottom, 12/14 top). On a tight budget, must go with flip flops and be able to breast feed in it.

I'm doing my nut. All the floaty/ linen trousers make me look like my mum and make my arse look like dogs fighting in sack. I'm a young looking 30 and don't want to dress middle-aged.

TIA.

I don't know if this will be of any use to anyone (they may not have them this year) but I bought several pairs of Primark denim shorts last year. There's a lot of Lycra in them, they're very thin (more like jegging material) and longer in the leg (but not knee length) than regular shorts.

First time in forever I've been able to wear shorts without one leg riding uncomfortably up into my crotch and they kept me cool as well (am a very sweaty person so was initially worried about unsightly sweat marks! Grin)

No chub rub, no sweat marks, comfortable- Gawd I love them! Grin

Losing weight doesn't always help people! I'm a size 8 and get horrible thigh rub - I take anti-histamines and wear long shorts tbh

RiverdaleJughead · 20/03/2017 18:21

Or silly play suits?

Vq1970 · 20/03/2017 19:36

I'm another one that wears cycling shorts under maxi dresses or three quarter length leggings under a knee length dress/skirt and the leggings are then part of the outfit. Also looks good if you can get lace trimmed three quarters. I normally buy them cheap off eBay.

fc301 · 20/03/2017 19:51

No idea but I think I love you.

fc301 · 20/03/2017 19:51

*tucks nightie under boobs.

MrsCharlieD · 20/03/2017 19:57

I use dove stick deodorant, not the spray or roll on as they do for all. Works a treat. Or as others have said, cycling shorts or cropped leggings under dresses and skirts.

MyOtherNameIs · 20/03/2017 20:00

skimmies slipshorts by Jockey. Search Skimmies on Amazon. Meant I could wear all sorts of skirts and sundresses again with no pain. Available in diff colours and lengths too. Stretchy smooth silky material so they don't stick out under clothes.

I am SO saving this thread for the summer. Thanks for all the suggestions.

And, if it helps OP, every single pair of jeans I have owned since my daughter was born has worn through at crotch/thigh. Not a great look, but at least we're not alone!

devuskums · 20/03/2017 20:05

Talc/baby powder is your friend...travel sized one in handbag, industrial sized one in suitcase. Good for getting sand off of feet too, if you need an excuse to have it. Have lovely holiday x

hollinhurst84 · 20/03/2017 20:07

I wear the big bloomers company shorts linked up thread, the shorter version. Really comfy

purpleporpoise · 20/03/2017 20:09

I got something called comfort shorts from Evans. I wear them under maxi dresses, skirts, even my wedding dress. They are amazing!

Unicorn81 · 20/03/2017 20:15

Not the cheapest but they are fab and stop sores www.jockey.co.uk/collections/skimmies

Also before i found these i would put strips of kinesiology tape on my legs at the parts that rub against seams and worked a treat (used this as allergic to glue on plasters and would burn my skin).

One word. Talc.

I have thunder thighs and carry a miniature around with me in my bag on holiday and just pop to the loo to reapply as needed.

iloveuihateu · 20/03/2017 20:31

I mainly wear dresses with a pair of M&S shapewear shorts underneath. I found a pair that are long enough to stop chub rub and are very light weight fabric so they're perfect.

Otherwise I wear those trousers that are made from thin Jersey and taper at the leg but are quite relaxed at the top (sort of harem style but without the baggy arse). They're good for travelling in.

abeandhalo · 20/03/2017 20:53

If it's not too hot I wear cropped leggings & dresses or lightweight harem trousers, but I can wear maxi / midi dresses if I use Sure spray deodorant on my thighs that works quite well for me.

Sprogletsmuvva · 20/03/2017 21:27

Compeed- that is, the blister patches. Or a decent own brand.

I had this last week, where I had a lunchtime run then evening pilates class, and my choice was a pair of rubbed-through leggings or filthy pastel coloured trackies . I chose the leggings, with inevitable results, and had to resort to blister patches the next day.

Don't use cheaply ones though. I tried Sensiplast (Lidl) and they were peeling within minutes. Also mustn't be too thick at edges or too matt - otherwise they'll sheer against each other and the bond with your skin will be line of least resistance Shock

Pitchforktotheface · 20/03/2017 22:16

Well, I've bought some skimmies, some sloggis and some cheapo ebay short legging/ cycling short type things. And a couple of maxi dresses!

Thanks, the holiday may not be ruined after all.

I find cycling shorts are too hot and sticky - Evans comfort shorts are definitely the way to go, as PP have said : they stay put, don't roll, are light even in the hottest, humidest temperatures, and you can still wear short skirts /dresses with them as they're about mid thigh. Plus, they last for ages (I wear them 3-4 times a week all year round, and the half dozen pairs I bought at the same time are still going strong 4 years in) and dry really quick.

Lanacane anti-chafing is good but needs topping up after a few hours (but can double as primer if you're short on space Confused) and a mini talc does wonders if you've inadvertently worn a pair of chafing long trousers. It's a bastard, though, and no mistake - have a chafe free holiday, OP Smile

Fluffyears · 20/03/2017 22:56

Talc and Lanacane do not work for me, they wear off within 10 minutes....I took the advice to try these on holiday, got outside our hotel and lanacane had already worn off. Ended up with a bleeding patch at the top of my thighs 😫

Pitchforktotheface · 21/03/2017 06:09

Fluffy, yeah that's been me in the past. I need a physical barrier!

My secret weapon: hair serum rubbed on thighs. Frizz-ease is excellent. Or wear long drawers!

Catherinebee85 · 21/03/2017 06:30

Bollocks to the people suggesting weight loss. In 3 weeks?! I had chub rub when I was age 11 and normal weight. Chub rub when I weighed 20st and chub rub when I slimmed to a fit and toned 12st. Some people are just not designed to have a thigh gap!

I honestly find leggings cooler than most summer clothes either with long floaty tops or dresses. If wanting skirts or dresses I wear evans comfort shorts. They are made of the same fabric as tights so make sure you wear them with cotton knickers. They wash easy and dry super quick so great for holidays even if you only get a black and a white pair.Amazon also do cycling shorts really cheap so you could order a few pairs in different colours?

dontdoitchicken · 21/03/2017 07:44

use body glide its a chaffing lotion that runners use and its amazing!! also i have cut off some old leggings i had and just used some wonder web to hem them to the length where i get the chaffing and if you add some tiny curtain weights to the hem of your dress it wont fly up and voila :)
