What is the meal called that you eat at 12pm?

Dinner is the evening meal

Possibly, but not necessarily. "Dinner" is the main meal of the day. Either lunch or what I call supper (that's a separate argument) can be dinner.

It's not just me saying this, consult a dictionary.

Unless it's a hot meal, then it's dinner. In which case the meal you have at 6pm which is normally called dinner, is called tea

I am going to assume that anyone saying "Dinner is X" is merely saying when they have dinner, and not trying to contradict me and the dictionary by claiming that the word should only be used to describe a meal at one particular time of day.

That hour in your Employment contact is called a lunch break for a reason, because you eat your lunch at lunchtime, 12ish to 2pm.

North West here and it is breakfast/dinner/tea generally. Supper is toast or similar before bed. However I do tend to say lunch when I'm at work e.g. I'm taking my lunch at 1 when I'd otherwise say dinner e.g. Hi Mum can I pop round for my dinner on Saturday? I also say dinner for an evening meal if going out somewhere where you order at the table but it would be tea if a quick pub meal on a random Wednesday. Clear as mud, eh?

Lunch here. My family are northern/Midlands and we called it breakfast, lunch, tea (kids meal before 6pm), dinner (adults meal around 8pm) and supper (a pre bed snack).

We use supper interchangeably with dinner but my mum is from England originally so not sure if that is just our family.

When we were kids we rushed home from a friend's and told my parents "the Smiths are having lunch for their dinner"!
We called it dinner when I was growing up but it became lunch once I started working I think.

well at work they call it lunch break not dinner break (south east)
