To be sick of all the 'gin' shit everywhere?

Gin hotels, gin tasting events, gin signs and mugs all over the bloody place.

Last year it was Prosecco, year before I think it was Pimms. Oh and I love gin but FFS all this marketing towards middle aged women (like me) gets on my tits.

Yes I probably am being unreasonable but FFS, there's even one of these >>>> Gin now!

I actu Had some rather yummy gin based cocktails 🍹 the other weekend. Lots of fun.

Hurrah for gin!

TheBogQueen · 19/03/2017 20:50

Am also middle aged. And I don't care Gin

Natsku · 19/03/2017 20:50

Gin isn't just flavoured vodka, its made with herbs and shit so that makes it healthy Grin

There isn't the middle-class gin 'thing' over here in Finland though but we do have the world's first alcopop which is gin and fizzy grapefruit juice, still as popular today as it was in the 50's (invented for the Olympics when they were held in Helsinki)

WilburIsSomePig · 19/03/2017 20:52

Maxima, it was for Zombie, her last few days of posting was a Gin and candle vigil for her. She was a much loved MNer

I had no idea about that at all and now I feel awful. Sad I will report and ask for the thread to be removed.

Ive just booked a gin tour for DH for his birthdayGrin

As a defence, he had a G&T almost every night and has done for years, so we aren't jumping on any bandwagon.

It is great for the gin industry though, lots of jobs etc for them.

MaximaDeWit · 19/03/2017 20:53

Thanks for explaining, Bubble. That's very sad. Love that she has her own emoji

BakeOffBiscuits · 19/03/2017 20:53

Oh don't feel awful Wibur. You went to know and people have been asking for a Gin for years.

BubbleBed · 19/03/2017 20:54

Wilbur's, don't feel bad. I feel bad i was short in my first message. Not everyone knows.

JamesDelaneysHat · 19/03/2017 20:55

Wilbur, I don't think for a minute you were casting aspersions at the gin emoticon on MN or the reasons behind it. Don't feel bad!

Yes I agree that it's good for the gin industry which is mostly in the UK.

Foldedtshirt · 19/03/2017 20:56

Don't feel bad Wilbur! I miss
zombie and had somehow missed the new bottle- you can still be Hmm about all the mummydrinkingmemes.

Olympiathequeen · 19/03/2017 20:56

I loved my G&T long before it's was fashionable, and I'll be doing so after too.

Trills · 19/03/2017 20:57

Don't be silly, you don't need to have the thread removed for that.

I have some gin and tonic bubble bath and it is quite meh. Just lemon flavour would have been fine. Or even a junipery smell.

blackteasplease · 19/03/2017 20:59

I see roundtable it's to go with the Tory welfare policies?

Makes sense.

pointythings · 19/03/2017 20:59

I think you are totally NBU to hate all the gin trendy stuff that's so popular now. Us hardened gin lovers knew all along how great gin was, we don't need a bandwagon for people to jump on.

So I for one am going to carry on enjoying my G&T once a week and not take part in any of the other hype. Gin And raise a glass to Zombie when I do, obviously.

Trills · 19/03/2017 21:00

It's also OK if you previously thought gin was an old ladies' drink and have just discovered that you like it.

If I like an unpopular thing, and it becomes popular, I should not sniff and say well I knew about it before you, I should be pleased that the thing I like it now more widely available.

Excited101 · 19/03/2017 21:00

I missed the Zombie thread and remember seeing her posts regularly... Is there a link to it?? Sad

mogloveseggs · 19/03/2017 21:01

It's bloody annoying at work when we have 20 different gins and people spend forever choosing which one to have.

AuntieStella · 19/03/2017 21:04

This might be the thread you are after, excited

BabychamSocialist · 19/03/2017 21:05

I personally prefer Guinness myself

I dislike any fad drink - Gin, Prosecco, you name it. Although I do sigh wistfully for a drink popular in the 80s - the Red Witch. I'd like to try that again but I'm not even sure if you can get Pernod easily now!

meditrina · 19/03/2017 21:06

Is this Wilbur actually the real, original, creepy MN ^Wilbur* back with an expanded name? If so, how the very devil are you!?

Trills · 19/03/2017 21:07

Do you dislike the fad or dislike the drink?

Does Guinness taste horrible to you this time of year, when millions of non-Guinness-drinkers take it up for the weekend?

meditrina · 19/03/2017 21:07

Gah, not creepy (DYAC) but crepey!

Trills · 19/03/2017 21:08

Cava is nicer the prosecco.

It's even got one of those EU designated origin jobbies.

MorrisZapp · 19/03/2017 21:09

Well it makes a change from chocolate, handbags and shoes. I think it's easy to forget that gin is a spirit though, it's practically marketed alongside kale smoothies these days and 'botanical' gives it a much undeserved healthy glow. I merrily sank a few large ones at Christmas and could hardly walk or speak the next day. Which isn't my fault.

1horatio · 19/03/2017 21:09

I drink rarely... (basically on Christmas, New Year's and the few times I can't refuse...) (I like being awake and energetic the next morning. Plus, it's rather pointless in my personal opinion).

DH does (luckily, or else we woudln't have met...).

He sometimes drinks gin (rarely, but stil...). I don't understand why. It isn't even tasty...
