To be sick of all the 'gin' shit everywhere?

WilburIsSomePig · 19/03/2017 20:23

Gin hotels, gin tasting events, gin signs and mugs all over the bloody place.

Last year it was Prosecco, year before I think it was Pimms. Oh and I love gin but FFS all this marketing towards middle aged women (like me) gets on my tits.

Yes I probably am being unreasonable but FFS, there's even one of these >>>> Gin now!

pug, gin is not just flavoured vodka! however told you that was sadly misinformed.
I love gin Gin, hate vodka Smile

BubbleBed · 19/03/2017 20:34

Ah yes, the tat can be annoying. But tbh, i have so many mugs and tat about two of my hobbies, my kids getting me something gin related would make me laugh 😂

I have no friends to buy me tat though!

ProseccoBitch · 19/03/2017 20:34

I love gin, I can't say I've really noticed much 'gin shit'.

Dixiestamp · 19/03/2017 20:34

You are nbu at all! I've never even tasted it and have no intention to. What's the big deal- it's everywhere?!

roundtable · 19/03/2017 20:35

It's because we're going back to the Victorian ages...

AuntieStella · 19/03/2017 20:35

MN Gin which you complain about in the OP, isn't "trite shit", though.

I take it you are unaware of when and why that emoticon was added?

mygorgeousmilo · 19/03/2017 20:36

I do like gin, but YANBU. It's like the prosecco thing. All mums need gin all the time bla bla bla. We can't get through all the nose-wiping and bum-changing without gin. I can't articulate what annoys me too much uncool red wine It's somehow insulting and, errrrr, pigeonhole-ing.... or something! I think I said on here before, all the cards I got for my last birthday, had some reference to prosecco on it. I'm sure this year it'll be gin.

PegEgg · 19/03/2017 20:36

Well it is but those juniper berries make all the difference!

LiviaDrusillaAugusta · 19/03/2017 20:37

I don't drink at all- just ignore it!

JamesDelaneysHat · 19/03/2017 20:37

Yes I totally agree. There will be 'keep calm and drink gin' shit available to buy somewhere. I do really like gin and I'm enjoying the range you can get these days. I don't agree all the marketing is focused on middle aged women just the horrendous twee stuff.

IvyLeagueUnderTheSea · 19/03/2017 20:37

Euphemia Gin is not flavoured vodka as such but it starts the same way as vodka and then is flavoured with juniper.
London and Plymouth gin are made differently.
But it is possible to simply flavour vodka and call it gin, you just can't call it distilled, London or Plymouth gin.

BettyOBarley · 19/03/2017 20:38

Yes I've noticed the gin thing everywhere too...and unicorns?! Wtf is everyone suddenly obsessed with unicorns!!?

IvyLeagueUnderTheSea · 19/03/2017 20:39

Is Gin just flavoured vodka? www.ginvodka.org/history/ginProduction.asp

EsmeWeatherwax · 19/03/2017 20:39

I love Gin, but it's definitely the fad of the year. Rum seems to be making a comeback too, so dh will be pleased. Love vodka too, so really don't mind if gin is just flavoured vodka.

Wannabehermit · 19/03/2017 20:40

Wasn't there a prosecco shortage because we drank it all? I think the same will happens with the gin nonsense.

Personally I'm glad the gourmet cupcake baking obsession has died down...

TheBogQueen · 19/03/2017 20:41

Gin is the only drink - apart from vodka - which doesn't give me a two day hangover.

Miniwookie · 19/03/2017 20:41

It pisses me off because I've loved gin for years, but now drinking it makes me a cliché of the middle class mum that I am!

Autumntactics · 19/03/2017 20:42

It's wine too. I can't bear "wine o'clock" and the water coolers full of wine and the huge glasses and the yoga with wine. I have pretty much stopped drinking too but it annoyed me before that.

Trills · 19/03/2017 20:43

Gin hotels and tasting events are not "the shit that goes along with it".

Signs of any kind are a shit gift.

WilburIsSomePig · 19/03/2017 20:44

I take it you are unaware of when and why that emoticon was added?

Totally unaware. Though I'm really not fussed about an emoticon, honestly! It's all the other bollocks! Grin

Same. I feel a bit embarrassed ordering it these days. I was worried the same would happen with Aperol which has been my drink of choice for a few years now, but it seems to have fizzled out a bit last summer. Hope rum makes a come back!

MaximaDeWit · 19/03/2017 20:46

What's the significance of the Gin emoji?

SheSaidHeSaid · 19/03/2017 20:47

On some ways YANBU but it's not limited just to gin. The shops latch on to any trend and then it's bloody everywhere. Gin, prosecco, flamingos, unicorns (to name a few).

YABU though in thinking it's aimed at middle aged women though, my friends and I are late 20s and we mostly all love gin so I imagine it's aimed at us as well.

BubbleBed · 19/03/2017 20:47

Maxima, it was for Zombie, her last few days of posting was a Gin and candle vigil for her. She was a much loved MNer

ArchNotImpudent · 19/03/2017 20:48

I'm a beer and wine drinker (though not in the same glass Grin ) so I just let the gin stuff pass me by. I look forward to the day beer is marketed to women - sure it will come Wink.
