A lot of the Hillary haters are not Trump fans though. There's a lot of false equivalences going around - the idea that because "normal" politicians are not perfect, that they are all as bad as each other. Er, no. I'd take a slightly tarnished Politician who has had to make some very difficult decisions in her past (and sometimes got it wrong) over someone like Trump anyday. We have the same problem in the UK I think - a lot of my left wing friends seem to lump anyone who isn't very left (like Corbyn) together. All tories are evil, all centre left politicians are Blairites and therefore evil, the lib dems betrayed us over tuition fees and got into bed with the evil tories - hence evil, etc etc etc.
It's a sort of idealogical purity over pragmatism, which is admirable in a way but not if it allows hard right idealogues to run the country for decades to come.

BREAKING: Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch publicly calls President Trump's attacks on judges "disheartening," ''demoralizing."

MrsT2007 · 21/03/2017 22:29

Maybe Mr Trump may be disappointed by his choice not being quite so partisan as he hoped?
Or is he playing to the crowd?

cozietoesie · 21/03/2017 22:32

I thought he already had, Ginger? (Or is it that this time he did it in public?)

cozietoesie · 21/03/2017 22:39

MrsT

My feeling is that Gorsuch is a right wing conservative originalist but also someone who is passionately in love with jurisprudence. 45 believes he has simply a 'second Scalia'. I doubt it's as straightforward as that.

GingerIvy · 21/03/2017 22:48

cozie there was a big to-do just after the first Muslim ban when the judges stopped it, and Gorsuch told a couple senators that, but Angry Spice and others insisted he was not referring specifically to Trump. It's pretty clear now he was.

GingerIvy · 21/03/2017 22:49

At the time, he refused to verify it publicly - now, of course, those who remember (including me) are rather annoyed as it was just more nonsense that he could have cleared up easily instead of letting the senators get dragged through the mud.

It's now effectively legal - which means it is legal - for doctors in Texas to lie to their patients. 2017. 2017. 2017. twitter.com/deray/status/844302385812000770

www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/texas-senate-passes-bill-allowing-obs-to-keep-info-from-pregnant-women_us_58d0870fe4b00705db521fb2

basically it allows doctors to lie to women, downplay test results, if they think the truth will make them seek an abortion.

Busy day. Its amazing. Any one of these stories would be a scandal in any normal administration but they are stacking up like Pringles* and noone's got seriously chomping yet. I'm sure the ravening hoards are circling. Someone needs to take the first bite.

  • this crap analogy is the result of a couple of hours in the pub & too much red wine for a school night. Mucho retyping needed. Hope it makes sense.

I was in the States in the run up to the election - in a decidedly republican area. ALL of the chatter was about Comey's torpedoing of HC with the announcement of the ongoing 'investigation'. He undoubtedly influenced the election himself.

I fully expected Obama to fire him before he left office, I wonder why he didn't.?
