Lweji - they've not changed the national security level recently either. Credible threat or excuse, I wonder?

Spicer warns Mexico not to celebrate too soon re: paying for the wall: "It's a little early to be claiming victory

I'd love to know his bright ideas on how they'll force Mexico to pay for it.

Up 1 more to 27 GOP that refuse to sign the healthcare bill.

Lweji · 21/03/2017 19:24

Credible threat or excuse, I wonder?

I'm going with excuse, that's what I'm getting at. :)

GingerIvy · 21/03/2017 19:24

Lweji Re Mexico, it is certain to be tied to NAFTA.

Holy shit. 100 SS with them??? Can you imagine the bill to the taxpayers?!?!?! How is this even remotely okay?

cozietoesie · 21/03/2017 19:26

I can understand just why they decided to move Ivanka into the WH but the timing was way out vis a vis the passage of legislation.

Lweji · 21/03/2017 19:27

But, if they impose tariffs on imports, it will be the US taxpayer who'll suffer.
And if they impose tariffs on exports, it will be US companies that will suffer. And it's likely that the trade deficit would increase.

That's why they haven't gone very far yet.

GingerIvy · 21/03/2017 19:29

Oh, and convenient that she can be a handy go between for Trump and his sons re the business, eh?

Lweji You're assuming they'll use common sense. It's like they shoot themselves in the foot, and laugh maniacally "look, I'm bleeding all over your carpet." But they don't yet peg that... um, hello, you've shot yourself in the foot.

Hmm
Lweji · 21/03/2017 19:39

Someone will use common sense, I do think. But I suppose they can keep saying it will happen for a while now.

cozietoesie · 21/03/2017 19:58

I guess that Wall St traders won't achieve an early night tonight.

MicrowaveSpy · 21/03/2017 20:20

I agree 100% with the HC tweets. The double standards were disgraceful.

I spoke to an old friend recently re Trump. She loathes him too. But she said that as HC was such a poor candidate "not much better than Trump" and I asked what she meant by that. "She's corrupt and has killed people" ShockConfusedSad

If this intelligent, liberal woman believed it - what hope did Hillary have?

MicrowaveSpy · 21/03/2017 20:23

Oh and Ginger fab reporting of the rally last night. It was like I was watching it without seeing him and giving myself nightmares FlowersStar

cozietoesie · 21/03/2017 20:25

I watched 10 minutes to my eternal disquiet - so Yes. Thanks Ginger. Smile

Yes, the Guardian is canny to follow the money trail and all those attempts to conceal it.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 21/03/2017 21:03

microwavespy I had a similar conversation but with my dp Sad

It's really difficult to navigate.

BiglyBadgers · 21/03/2017 21:14

I may have had a short conversation similar to that with my DH *microwave". He is a big Bernie fan and to be fair I don't think he had entirely thought about what he was saying. I told him in no uncertain terms that while Hillary and Obama may have had policies and carried out actions i did not agree with neither were in anyway acting outside the law or attempting to dismantle the very foundations of democratic government. Someone unethically increasing drone strikes is not even on the same continent as acting to impose a dictatorship funded and supported by Russian money. Needless to say we will not be having that conversation again Hmm

If nothing else comes out of this whole business the fact that Teen Vogue has completely shot all my shallow expectations of it out the water will remain a lesson to me. Their reporting on the Trump administration has been really very good.

You can't, I think, change the heart of a 'believer' - at least not easily, and certainly not 'en masse'. It's possible to explain your position fully to someone, though, who is ......'in-between'. And to have hope that they'll understand.

SenecaFalls · 21/03/2017 21:26

If this intelligent, liberal woman believed it - what hope did Hillary have?

Well, I don't know your friend, but I do have some doubts about her intelligence if she believed that crap which comes straight from the alt-right play book. Intelligent liberal people usually do a bit of research to find out the truth.

cozietoesie · 21/03/2017 21:27

Interesting, Bigly. My own experience of youngsters on this side of the pond is that they generally have a dreadfully low opinion of 45 but that they're relying on the 'grown-ups' to ........get things under control.
