My 6 year old brought one of her friend into play at 12 today. The girl is a neighbour however she lives at one end of a rather long street and we live at the other . My dd has to come tell me if she is going into her friends house, should say though that the friend I means is not the girl here atm. Dds friend is only 3 doors down and I can see the house from my garden. However this other girl has been here for 6 hours now, she hadn't had lunch when she came in so I gave them some, asked her if her mum knows where she is she said no she is at the shops! Also gave her dinner now as I wasn't going to give my dds and leave her out. Aibu to be pissed off at this girls parents for 1 going to shop and just leaving her playing In the street, 2 not bothering to look for their dd for so long?
My daughters go out to play they must stay in the garden or if going to play with others then I watch or walk up with them and they all play in one of our gardens together. If my dds had been away for 6 min alone I would be going crazy!

We bumped into one of our 6 year old daughters friends in the park a few years back. Not long after the awful Soham case. She said she was out with her sister (who was deemed old enough to supervise aged 8) but the sister had disappeared without her. It was getting dark and her house was about a mile away along a network of quiet back alleys and laneways. So we did what anyone would and walked her safely home. We were incredulous when the parents didn't even come to the door. They were oblivious to either of their kids whereabouts. Last we heard, the poor kid had dropped out of school at 14 and was into drugs. Very sad

You should call social services. Could you forgive yourself if that same child was kidnapped next time her mother abandons her with no clue where she is. That's a disgrace.

When children are abused or abducted it's usually by someone they know. That's why 6year olds should be instructed never, ever to get in a car, go in a building or walk away with anyone unless their parent/carer knows where they are.

When you allowedthat child into your home without permission from the parent/carer you reinforced her belief that it was ok to do so. The parent may have been negligent by not knowing where she was but you put yourself in a dangerous, irresponsible position by taking that child out of the view of her parents.

When you fed her lunch you encouraged her to stay at yours.

By not informing the parents of her whereabouts (even by phonecall, text or note in the door) you were unbelievably irresponsible.

And you've taught your own child that it's ok to go into the house of someone when you don't know about it. It's ok to eat food offered by random people. It's ok to stay away all day.

Sigh.

I think the reason people are complaining about the massive drip feed is because, let's be honest, the op gave a detailed op and then as soon as people were disagreeing with her, she comes back to say that she had, in fact, been round to the house and that no one was there. I find this hard to believe because that's such an important factor, she would have put that info in the original post. Drip feeding isn't always terrible, we all forget details, but that to me, was made up!
