To be a bit sick of the independance referendum debate with Scotland

I will say I am neither Scottish or English, but getting soo bloody sick of the whining about another referendum (and I'm a remoaner!). It feels very much like a whiney teen having a tantrum that they didn't get their own way. There are two other countries in the UK, and do you see us moaning about our bloody freedom. We hardly ever get represented on political programmes and yet it feels like every week we get the SNP on the TV telling us of Scotlands woes. Quite frankly they are hogging the debating arena. Rant over.

the scottish people voted for the SNP

Just have to pick poster up on this point - SOME Scottish people voted SNP. They don't have a majority in the Scottish Parliament. They bang on as if they represent each and every one of us but they truly don't.

Cantshedmymuffintop · 17/03/2017 08:51

Livingondais24 I'm not English as I have stated. It comes across as if there are only 2 countries that matter if you watch the news, England, goes without saying historically, we all know that zzzzz and Scotland who are being very demanding all the time. Quite frankly I'd be quite happy with the byyyeee you speak of now. David Cameron wanted to keep hold of you as which leader in their right mind wants to be known as the person who split up the UK?!

Scottish, never voted snp, they can shove 'Indyref2: the return of the Insanity' where the monkey shoves his nuts. Once in generation my arse. Lying bunch of twits.

So will we now rerun the brexit vote? Will there be reruns of everything until politicians get the answer they want?

BakeOffBiscuits · 17/03/2017 08:59

Not sure about it being boring, I'm bloody worried about it.

May has said NS can't hold a ref.

NS says she's doing it anyway, so if she does it won't be legally binding. It's all going to end badly IMO. There's going to be a lot of anger and upset on both sides.

(I expect if this was happening a hundred years ago, the army would have been sent in.)

MidnightAura · 17/03/2017 09:02

I'm sick to the back teeth of it too. I'm Scottish. It's hypocrisy at its finest when NS bangs on about other countries respecting their democratic process (Trump and Brexit) when she refuses to accept the referendum results in her country. She should spend more time dealing with the issues here and sorting out the mess that is the police force, education and the NHS instead of whinging how awful Westminister is.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 17/03/2017 09:04

Kind of like the Brexit vote then...

They don't have a majority in the Scottish Parliament

They don't. But there is a pro indy majority.

BakeOffBiscuits · 17/03/2017 09:10

I too think NS has taken lessons from Trump re Tweeting insults. Grow up for goodness sake!

FarAwayHills · 17/03/2017 09:11

Why does democracy and the will of the people only count when it's about Brexit but not Scottish Independence. The Scots voted no to independence, the people have spoken. Let it go.

P1nkP0ppy · 17/03/2017 09:19

www.telegraph.co.uk/women/politics/nicola-sturgeon-liar-traitor-head/

Sums NS up beautifully.

Doyouwantabrew · 17/03/2017 09:28

I don't get it. It seems to me it's project Nicola she will keep wanting a vote until she gets the answer she wants.

She moans about being ruled by Westminster and turn wants to be ruled by Brussels!

The EU won't have them as an independent member as there are too many other countries like Spain facing clamour to break up. Madness.

remoaniac · 17/03/2017 09:30

Not unreasonable OP - it's all a bit much at the moment.

I think Theresa May is right to rule a referendum out until after Brexit happens. After that, all bets are off.

Having a referendum before Brexit has no purpose other than to distract the UK government from Brexit. It's stupid to expect the people in Scotland to vote for something when they don't know what the outcome of Brexit is yet. And it's not the case that Scotland can stay in the EU if it votes for independence, it will have to leave along with the Uk whatever the deal. The difference is, it can then decide if it wants to leave the UK to try to rejoin the EU or the EEA whereas the rest of the UK won't have that luxury (although NI could seek to reunify with the Republic).

Once we know what the outcome is (which could be better than we fear) - then it might be reasonable to have another referendum. I'd have thought that it would be in the SNP's interest to delay it anyway as (a) younger people are more likely to vote for independence and more of them will come of age to vote and (b) older people are more likely to vote for the Union, and they will gradually be dying off.

As far as the age thing goes, it's not that simple. I was a raving nationalist as a teenager and mellowed over the years. I'm now a middle aged unionist.

It's not just these particular old people who dread change and worry about their pensions, or these young people full of passion over experience. It will always be this way.

mollyminniemo · 17/03/2017 09:35

First time round- really wanted Scotland to stay, was so happy. Now- am sick to death of it all, My Scottish Aunt is constantly posting Scottish Independence stuff all over her Facebook, clearly aimed at non-Scottish, as if we are begging them to stay- nope not any more just GO. The lyrics of I will survive always come to mind...
Go on now, GO walk out the door
Just turn around now
'Cause you're not welcome anymore
Weren't you the one who tried to break me with goodbye?
Did you think I'd crumble?
Did you think I'd lay down and die?
Oh no not I, I will survive

misomiso · 17/03/2017 09:49

I'm sick of tall the whiney whinging in politics these days no wonder millenials get a bad rap when we have this kind of politics leading by example

Having an opinion about our future is boring and whiny now is it? You sound fucking thick and ignorant.

The country is in disarray over this whole brexit thing, I'm sorry you find it so boring, most of us actually find it quite worrying.

remoaniac · 17/03/2017 09:50

Good point. But on the whole the youngsters are more likely to vote to leave the Uk aren't they especially as they can vote from 16. I was thinking about the old people more as the ones who fought in the war or were a bit younger and did National Service etc and were very much brought up as British - as they die off, are people more likely to see themselves as Scottish and not British?

hellooooooomama · 17/03/2017 11:01

yet their future and economic stability, and many future opportunities for young people, are being massively threatened by the minority of ignorant and racist English people who naively bought in to a lot of lies from a party who were trying to manipulate them in a fake referendum that didn't even have a Brexit plan.

This is just your opinion. It doesn't make you right.

Doyouwantabrew · 17/03/2017 11:01

misomiso horrible post personal
Attacks are not allowed here.

Scotland voted to stay in the U.K. The uk voted to leave the EU. You either accept democracy or you don't. If you don't you are an extremist.

dangermouseisace · 17/03/2017 11:24

YABVVVU. I am Scottish. Theresa May etc are the ones getting on my tits- 'the people'wanted to leave the EU. No, the people of Scotland, Wales and most major cities in England/Wales did not. It was a campaign grown on lies and deceit and if the English people fell for it that's their issue. Theresa May's attitude is bullying and it's like back to the 1980's- Scotland doesn't matter. Her attitude, and that of the Tories towards the EU negotiations is disgusting and entitled. Surely it would be better, if Scotland were to have to leave the EU due to Brexit, to do it on its own terms and make its own way in the world. I used to be really anti SNP and thought they were crazy but not now.

remoaniac · 17/03/2017 12:43

the minority of ignorant and racist English people

Over 1/3 of voters in Scotland voted to leave the EU too - or do you think they were all English racists living in Scotland?

Yoksha · 17/03/2017 13:00

I agree, after brexit all bets are off. We're living through monumental political change. I'm sick of Ms Sturgeon. Change the record luv!

I'm a Scot living south of the border. I think the whole of the UK should be given a vote because it's not constitutional to just give one section of the UK such power on what in my mind affects the whole union. What I'd like to know is this why can't all Scots not living in the UK be given the vote. Or, don't allow English people living in Scotland be given the vote.

Yoksha · 17/03/2017 13:02
  • should have said " all Scots not living in Scotland, but other parts of the UK?
