I'm in a good job that I enjoy, sort of upper middle management job. Organisation is large. Next week I have an interview for a big promotion - one of the senior directors who has barely ever spoken to me, asked me today very randomly when bumping into me in lunch if I intend to have any more children. Now it could be considered to be a poor attempt at small talk but equally felt very odd as he is one of the people interviewing me next week!

Unprofessional bullshit. They are BU.

I said no, as that is the truthful answer but wonder how much it would have impacted my chances if I said well yes one more would be lovely!!

Very very unprofessional. Their way of getting an answer to a question that is illegal to ask in an interview.

I'd say he was definitely checking regarding the promotion. Ought to know better but I worked at a solicitors and was informed that the reason a colleague doing same job as me was paid more was because he was a man and had a family to support!!!!Confused
Your interviewer is on dodgy ground, especially if you didn't get job as you could have a case to argue he had your gender and possible child bearing in mind.
Good luck!

People do this. I always look people up on Facebook or Twitter before offering them a job.
