In the Philippines I have eaten ice cream with chili, pork intestines and fried fat intestines and a few other things . Bicol Express was good but I still don't know what was in it. I draw the line though at trying goats eyes Ballut. I don't like eggs anyway unless they are made of chocolate Grin

I have also had dog and sneak in Vietnam and fill worms and crickets in Thailand.

Except for the ice cream and the Bicol express, I don't think I would want to try the other things again

Cormorant. It was delicious. One of the nicest meats I've ever had.

Weedsnseeds1 · 14/03/2017 23:27

All sorts of things.
Fried grubs in Thailand - like pork scratchings, yum.
Camel, ostrich, gazelle, bison, zebra -all fine.
Horse and donkey - donkey is nicer.
Alligator and crocodile - both swamp flavoured chicken, but crocodile was better
Warthog - delicious
African land snail - compost flavoured cartlidge
Roman snails - garlicky and delicious
Gannet - most repulsive thing I have ever put in my mouth
Brain, feet, entrails, organs etc all fine

PickAChew · 14/03/2017 23:39

There's a shop in Newcastle that sells all manner of century eggs.

Have not been tempted to try one!

PickAChew · 14/03/2017 23:42

Fogot the time that, as a child, I scoffed a load of doggy chocolate drops! Blush

SabineUndine · 14/03/2017 23:47

SquatBetty · 15/03/2017 02:42

Deep fried Tarantula in Cambodia - so deep fried it didn't really taste of anything much and was very crunchy

Rat in Vietnam - had been BBQ'd with some sort of sauce, was ok but very, very greasy

Alpaca burger in Peru - ok, quite tasty

Emu in Australia - absolutely delicious, like a boiled ham

Termite in Mexico - tasted of carrot

JungleInTheRumble · 15/03/2017 05:17

Chicken feet are delicious once you get past the fact that you're eating a foot. It also takes a while to get used to biting off one toe at a time and then spitting out all the little bones.

What distinguishes a good chicken foot from a not so good one is the texture rather than the taste. Ideally it will be very gooey, kinda like the fatty part of meat. Apparently eating them is v good for your skin cause of all the collagen.

Similar is pork knuckle which i think is pigs feet. Again very gooey texture.

The most horrible thing I've ever eaten is sea urchin sashimi. I came very close to vomiting at the table. Just an incredibly strong taste.

I've tried jellyfish and century egg and found the jellyfish bland and crunchy and century egg was mostly just salty.

My partner once was at a dinner party where they ate lobster sashimi...its feelers were still moving!!! Envy (not envy) I was very pleased I'd declined to attend...

Beansonapost · 15/03/2017 05:35

Live sashimi = something sashimi, not live.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 15/03/2017 06:42

Camel milk and butter - I shall stick to cows

Natsku · 15/03/2017 06:46

Nothing too outrageous:

Pigs feet (did not enjoy)
Donkey (did enjoy)
Reindeer (one of my favourites)
Moose (ditto)
Bear (Not bad)
A very tasty game bird of some kind - I had money to waste I'd eat them more often
Fish brains (little fish that we fry and eat whole, brains and bones and all - very nice)
I make fish head soup from time to time, currently have 6 or 7 heads in the freezer waiting to be made into soups
Kangaroo (alright but not great)
Ostrich (ditto)
Squid (did not like, its a texture thing)
I think there were a few other things that I can't remember now (probably blocked out the memory!)

We convinced my brother's vegetarian girlfriend to have a bite of a reindeer burger once - she liked it. And she's his wife now so I guess we didn't put her off the family too much Grin

SongforSal · 15/03/2017 17:51

Horse. And before I get flamed, I was slightly pissed and ordered it in France thinking it was beef. Urgh.

inthekitchensink · 15/03/2017 17:59

Dog is more cruel to eat than other animals because of the way they are treated prior to being killed in the most horrific fashion, in order to tenderise the meat. I wouldn't put details here, but there is plenty of evidence on line. And I lived in south east Asia and have plenty of first hand evidence. It's the most brutal and disgusting treatment.

SurfBored73 · 15/03/2017 18:21

Spiders in Cambodia. I think it was tarantula. Surprisingly tasty.

Dowser · 15/03/2017 18:45

Flax seeds biscuits made by dh
Gram flour pizza

Soused herring
We make our own sauerkraut and pepperkraut, my name for fermented peppers
Kombucha tea
Kefir

But I won't eat any shellfish
Insects
Or parts like brains, tripe etc

Natsku · 15/03/2017 20:16

Oh yeah and I've eaten horse, they used to sell horse mince in the supermarket where I live and its fairly common in meetwurst. Quite nice really.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 15/03/2017 20:18

Plankton. Fucking disgusting Envy

SmileEachDay · 15/03/2017 20:44

Are you a blue whale, Sandunes?

Boofeckinghoo · 15/03/2017 20:57

Plankton. Fucking disgusting
Are you a blue whale

Nearly choked on my noodles! Grin

msgrinch · 15/03/2017 21:06

All the pearl clutching about eating dog and cat baffles me. Why dont people feel the same about cows/lambs/chicken. They can be pets to. I have both a dog and cat as pets, i can still realise they are food in other countries. Its really very silly.

As for this "mans best friend" crap. No my best friends called Annie and shes a beauty therapist with 3 kids. She doesn't shit outside (that i know of) and smells slightly better than my collie.

BarbarianMum · 15/03/2017 21:06

Cow lung suya- more tender than the usual beef variety.
African land snail - tastes like dirt
Goat's head soup - deeply disturbing but tastes fine
Cat (but I only found out afterwards) - not very nice

Dog meat is nicknamed J5 in SE Nigeria. I knew that so refused to try it.

BarbarianMum · 15/03/2017 21:09

Oh and dog meat in Nigeria is usually roadkill (hence J5), although people will occasionally do for their compound dogs if they get too numerous. It's not farmed. Ditto cat. Particular eaten in what was once Biafra - along with just about everything else. I guess starvation does away with a lot of taboos.

SandunesAndRainclouds · 15/03/2017 21:29

Smile sadly not. I'd quite like to be a whale swimming deep in the ocean. But I'd starve because I wouldn't eat plankton ever, ever again.
