To think this is why many people stay away from gyms?

www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-4309516/Female-bodybuilder-body-shames-woman-gym.html

It's in a very similar vein to the playboy model who body shamed the woman who was showering in an American gym last year, and it's just awful.

My DH and I joined a gym and I used to hate going for fear I would look ridiculous, and I know others feel the same.

I hope she is banned from the gym at the very least.

The only people I judge at the gym or the pool or in classes are those who dick about, show off, are excessively loud, hog machines, don't wipe machines down, hog lanes in the pool. I don't give a fig what they look like.

Definitely. Judge those people a lot!

MackerelOfFact · 14/03/2017 12:23

Every gym I've ever been to has had about a 50/50 mix of people who are clearly quite early on in their fitness journey, and those who are already superfit gym bunnies. I've never ever seen anyone bullying anyone else, and anyone who tried would get a short shrift from anyone within earshot.

Nobody cares what anyone looks like at the gym. In fact, those that turn up and posture for a while in the latest Lululemon gear and don't break a sweat are the only ones I ever judge.

PrincessConsuelooBananaHamock · 14/03/2017 12:25

I'm a chubber but a gym frequenter and I have to say it's the people who go in twos and threes that are the worse. Quite often the competitive body builder types are the first to offer help and are kind to me.

I do feel sorry for this girl- we've all done stupid things , people now have social media logging all their stupid misdemeanours.

I hope she will learn from it.

seafoodeatit · 14/03/2017 12:25

Don't let it out you off, most at the hymn are just worrying about what they're doing to even look around.

This woman is clearly an attention seeking troll who wanted her 5 minutes of fame. There is no way she posted that without knowing the reaction she'd get, it's very sad.

Runny · 14/03/2017 12:26

I can honestly say when I'm at the gym I get so into it that I don't take a blind bit of notice of anyone else or what they look like.

This woman is a nasty bitch. I hope the gym chain bans her.

seafoodeatit · 14/03/2017 12:26

Put not out, gym not hymn. Stupid autocorrect!!

PrincessConsuelooBananaHamock · 14/03/2017 12:27

I completely forgot to add
I think it's very wrong to berate this woman for her stupid /body shaming comments only to slate the way she looks.

Hmm
GahBuggerit · 14/03/2017 12:31

What a horrid person. Just goes to show you can spend time and money on your looks, but that wont stop you from being a twat.

KathyBeale · 14/03/2017 12:33

I am very self-conscious about my looks and would never put myself in a situation where I could be judged on my looks. For example, I've had the opportunity to go on TV to talk about a subject I'm fairly knowledgable about but always turned it down because I look awful on screen. BUT I do go to the gym and have only ever been welcomed and never felt judged or mocked.

This woman's apology is woefully inadequate and clearly just a lie. I'd have more respect for her if she admitted she did want to bodyshame the person she photographed and has realised now how wrong it was.

I'm a journalist and I'd love to interview the woman on the treadmill and get her to 'own' the story.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 14/03/2017 12:35

Tbf I can lose weight but that women will still be dense with no common sense no matter her size.

Aeroflotgirl · 14/03/2017 12:36

She is just one nasty piece of work, no better than shaming a homeless person at the job fair. The lady can loose weight, but hard to,change a poisonous personality. Oh yes, I think it's a bit rich her criticising when she shoukd look at herself first!

I go to a fantastic kickboxing dojo, there you will find people of all ages shapes and sizes and everyone really supportive and lovely. They have a no photography or videoing rule, this behaviour would merit an instant ban.

megletthesecond · 14/03/2017 12:36

I've never ever heard anyone pass comment on anyone's physique in 15yrs at the gym. And I suspect if anyone did anything as stupid as that they'd have their arse handed to then on a plate .

We have a fantastic local authority gym , all shapes, sizes and abilities..

Iamastonished · 14/03/2017 12:42

I work part time and use the local gym and pool during the day when I am not at work. Most of the other gym users are older than me (I'm 58), and come in all shapes and sizes. I rarely see the body beautiful type there.

Everyone is so friendly and relaxed and I always feel welcome and comfortable in my own skin.

LozzaChops101 · 14/03/2017 12:43

I haven't read the whole thread, but just wanted to say that I think in most gyms the majority of people are sympathetic to the struggle of reaching various fitness goals and want everyone to do well. Smile Don't let a few examples of twattery put you off.

In my experience the super-buff women can be some of the most helpful and encouraging, and are very aware of various body-shaming issues in society that can put women off doing all sorts of things.

Hopefully the fact that these two idiots have caused outrage with their thoughtlessness shows that it's not too common an occurrence.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 14/03/2017 12:49

I'm a fatty that lifts weights and I just want to agree that bodybuilders are generally great and supportive.
I never have any comments about my body- except to note positive changes.

That woman is just a dick and not representative at all.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 14/03/2017 12:54

This is more the sort of behaviour I expect from body builders to be honest

previously1474etc · 14/03/2017 12:56

Not read the entire article, page not loading properly for me but is that really a woman? If there has been some kind of sex change there might be some issues that have caused the bitchiness, still no excuse though.
There has certainly been some surgery on that face, so wondering about the rest of the body.

(Waiting to be flamed, although I am genuinely not up to date with terminology on such matters).

Crunchymum · 14/03/2017 12:56

She is a nasty cunt of a human being but the DM really aren't helping by printing the picture.

LaGattaNera · 14/03/2017 12:59

This is one stupid cruel individual and doesn't represent what gym goers think. What she did is disgraceful.

Aeroflotgirl · 14/03/2017 13:01

I agree unlimited, at the dojo I go to, there are some really buff ninja fighters, but they would never treat someone like that.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/03/2017 13:01

I think it's absolutely ok to comment on her looks! She's criticising someone for the way they look when underneath the drawn on eyebrows and tarantula eyelashes she looks like everyone else does.

Billybonkers76 · 14/03/2017 13:03

That "apology" though! Pathetic!

To think this is why many people stay away from gyms?
DrinkFeckArseGirls · 14/03/2017 13:05

You can come a ross cunts everywhere abd get body shamed in the street so I do hope that doesn't stop anyone training.
