To ask if you would buy This and how much?

Hello :)

Recently I have started to make Nappy Cakes for family members and they have suggested that I should start taking orders. However I am not sure.. I originally started making them as a fun way to give baby things to people and not sure how many people would generally go out and order one!
AIBU to ask if you could answer the following questions?

1. Would you ever consider buying a Nappy Cake?
2. How much money would you pay on a Nappy cake?
3. What would you like to see in it?

I am kind of hoping the Nappy Cake idea would work because I am looking for a way to earn some money and I really enjoyed it.. However I do need people's honest opinions..Thankyou :)

Also is there anything else you would consider buying that would be costume made to your order?

I used a Jeremy fisher because it's now a tradition for every baby in the family to receive a Jeremy fisher off of me when they are born.

It's not my sort of thing. I wouldn't buy one nor would I particularly want one. However, I can imagine some people would love them

I got given one & really appreciated it, not sure how much I would want to pay for one though.

How much do the bits cost you? What are the white bits, disposables? They're nicely done, not my bag but i see them for sale on local selling sites and as they are quite large, maybe try at 30-40?

Not wanting to burst your bubble OP, but I thought that the nappy cake trend had passed?

Also, the baby skin care products aren't not recommended to be used for skincare for the first few months as they can be drying and damaging to skin early on.

Add to that that a pack of aldi nappies are pretty cheap and I'd wonder whether people would want to pay a large enough amount for you to make one and be rewarded for your time and effort, when they could buy the component parts cheaply themselves.

My worry for you is that you'd be spending a vast amount of time making these up for very little financial gain.

I don't think mumsnet is the place to ask if I am honest. A lot of people LOVE these, just like the glitter glass phase but most of mumsnet just don't.

How much did it cost to make? I would post on FB advertising them at an extra £5 more than the cost and see if you get any takers.

I wouldn't buy one in general, but I do love the theme of yours. However, I would ditch the Johnsons products and the sock ons.

Wow, I like them. I have seen a lot of silly nappy cakes but that actually looks like something which would be a lot of practical use.

I wouldn't buy one and wouldn't particularly want one myself if I'm honest. But I admin a couple of small local fb groups where members sell/buy baby items, and nappy cakes seem to be a fairly popular thing to be bought as gifts for baby showers.

I wouldn't buy one myself but we were bought one by my DH's colleagues when we had DD.

My friend made me one it was layered though and the socks etc were part of the cake not placed on top like yours.

I don't like them. I also really don't like Johnson's products as they are very harsh. If you do it I's suggest Child's Farm or Aveeno

A small group of us made one of these for a friend. It was simple to do so I wouldn't buy one and would make one again.

However I think there are people who would buy one but how would you package it and deliver it? Ours, like yours looks to have, had bits balanced on, which wasn't an issue as we hand delivered it but how would you post it for example and how much would postage be as it is quite a bulky item?

I don't get it -what have you 'made'? It just looks like lots of nappies tied together with a bit of ribbon? How can you charge people for doing that?

Or is there a hidden surprise that I'm missing?

I think they're a great idea, I sometimes have to organise maternity leave presents and these would be perfect, I would buy them. I would also be pleased to receive one.

Could you have a range of sizes in different price brackets, so small token ones for less than £15 (using travel size/trial size products perhaps), £15 -£30 and some deluxe ones for £30 - £50

It's the sort of thing I'd buy for a work colleague with a collection rather than as an individual. I think you would be struggling to do it as a business on its own tbh. Lovely job though!

My friends mil makes nappy cakes and I believe she charged around £20-£25.
I think they are a move idea although if I was buying s gift id prefer to buy the things myself and then assemble them myself to save money but that's just me.

I always used to consider them tacky until I received one and found it super useful.

I would't include any bath products as PP have said though - I'm not a fan of Johnsons myself. A nappy balm (ie Bephanten), a packet of water wipes o just a cute little rattle would be better options IMO. Also it could include some hand cream for the mum as a little treat maybe? My hands are always dry these day from washing them so much.

Even if that is more than what it cost to make it's the point of you taking time to do it, but yeah I like it

Or replace any balm/wipes for cotton wool or muslins- no expiry date, useful.
