Hello :)

Recently I have started to make Nappy Cakes for family members and they have suggested that I should start taking orders. However I am not sure.. I originally started making them as a fun way to give baby things to people and not sure how many people would generally go out and order one!
AIBU to ask if you could answer the following questions?

  1. Would you ever consider buying a Nappy Cake?
  2. How much money would you pay on a Nappy cake?
  3. What would you like to see in it?

I am kind of hoping the Nappy Cake idea would work because I am looking for a way to earn some money and I really enjoyed it.. However I do need people's honest opinions..Thankyou :)

Also is there anything else you would consider buying that would be costume made to your order?

Thankyou :)

It's just some nappies with some stuff perched on the top Confused

LucklessMonster · 12/03/2017 18:54

"Nappy cake" is such a horrible, horrible phrase.

Sparklingbrook · 12/03/2017 18:55

OMG there are some really really odd ones aren't there?

I somehow hadn't actually heard of this either and was expecting an actual sponge-and-jam cake shaped like a nappy or something Grin That said, although I wouldn't buy one myself you have made it look well and I do think there'd be a market for them -- although I don't know if it would be profitable enough to be much more than a hobby.

Happyfeet1972 · 12/03/2017 18:59

sparkling ha, actually I think that's my kind of nappy object, brilliant....Is that meant to be an elephant on a motorcycle?

PlumsGalore · 12/03/2017 19:00

If a friend or colleague had made me one I would be deeply touched they had gone to the effort for a present. I would be far less impressed if I thought someone had paid for it to be made.

That sounds contradictory, but I think the home made look is great f it is home made but not if it's a professional offering. Hope that makes sense.

I would stick to giving them as presents personally.

Some responders are a bit harsh. I think it looks lovely and I would buy one, and I like the sock-ons. Good luck. Make a few , post on Facebook, see how it goes. It's worth a try

ThoraGruntwhistle · 12/03/2017 19:01

I've never heard of them, was expecting to see a white iced cake in the shape of a nappy that's green and sludgy inside when you cut into it Confused
If I was an expectant mum I'd probably prefer to get a hamper someone had made up for me with the same sort of products in it tbh

FreshStart2017 · 12/03/2017 19:01

I wouldn't buy one and I think I'd prefer all the products to be in a nice box which could be used as storage.

The nappies all loose would annoy me and would much prefer them kept in the packet they came from.

Sparklingbrook · 12/03/2017 19:02

I think so Happy. Nothing says 'Congratulations' more than an elephant riding a motorbike made of nappies. Obviously. Grin

SunnyCoco · 12/03/2017 19:06

No I'm afraid I wouldn't buy something like this
As some of the others have said, I don't like that the nappies have been taken out of the packet
And just can't see the added value
Best of luck whatever you decide

KitKat1985 · 12/03/2017 19:08

I think you would always be able to sell the odd few, but I doubt you could make a living out of it. It's hard to know what price that would sell for without knowing the cost of the components. I would have thought the cost of the components plus about £5-10 on top for profit would be about right.

Lalunya85 · 12/03/2017 19:09

I received one for my son. I liked the idea but the issues I has with it were:

All the nappies were newborn size, a size I had already bought more than enough nappies of myself before the birth. So I couldn't use them. More and bigger sizer would have been much better.

There was a little hat and mittens. I never used those and I'm pretty sure most people would have better quality ones. One lovely blanket or soft toy would be much better than a few cheap, uninteresting clothes

I really liked the muslin cloths mine had, you can't have enough of those.

Definitely a no to baby shampoos etc. People have their own preferences and as pp have said it isn't recommended to use any kind of soap on a baby for the first few weeks anyway. I would have loved a small bottle of natural almond oil or organic sunflower oil for baby massage - but as I said, it's very subjective.

In a nutshell - less stuff but better quality would be good. And visually, anything that isn't pink or blue would be good! Grin

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 12/03/2017 19:26

I think it's lovely OP.
Yes, I would buy one, £20.00 maybe, my nappy days are long over 😄

MoveOnTheCards · 12/03/2017 19:28

I wouldn't buy one, sorry.

When DS was born we were sent a 'bouquet' of baby socks, vests, gloves etc. that were pretty to receive but I'd imagine cost more than their 'worth'.

greenworm · 12/03/2017 19:31

I'd buy one as a cross between a useful present and something a bit of a joke/funny. Love the idea if one with a bottle of wine/other alcohol in the middle, as something for mum to be to look forward to. I'd pay around £20-£30 depending on quality of components.
