To wonder why my neighbour parks like this? (With diagram and everything)

We have off road parking (really a bit of ground make-shifted into parking)

Two spaces opposite the building, and the space running in front of the building which is long enough for 3 cars if the third car parks perpendicular to the first two.

Everyone seems to have unintentionally acquired preferred spots, with two neighbours always parking in the opposite spaces and myself and another neighbour always parking in front of the building (which suits me as there's more space to get the dcs out of the car)

So if I get there first I always park right up to the step, which leaves space for a third car. But if my neighbour parks first, she leaves a massive space in front of her car so there's no room at the back for a third car.

But the weird thing is if she parks second, she parks right up the arse of my car so close that if I want to get DDs pram in the boot I've got to swing the car round before I can open the boot. So what I mean is its not like she has bad spacial awareness or likes to leave space at her front.

I've tried to say hello to her in the past but she doesn't look at me so I can't drop it into conversation so I just Britishly quietly wonder why she does it.

It doesn't affect me terribly it's not like having to swing the car round to put the pram in is the worst problem in the world, but it really annoys me that she does away with a parking space I find it quite rude and tbh a bit selfish.

For some reason she thinks the space next to the steps is her's so she is PA with her parking when you park there. Or someone coming down the stairs scratched her car once so she leaves lots of room beside the stairs so it doesn't happen again (and she's just oblivious to the fact some people need to access the boots of their cars).

And now to answer your question. I have come to the conclusion that cars make people crazy. Driving them, parking them, all makes normal people go Doolally. They get all possessive and aggressive over the space their car occupies.

If you left a tiny space, would there then be room for the third car? Because that would only be fair.

Why don't you park with your boot to the stairs? Then it doesn't matter what way your neighbour parks.

Ah, I know this one! She does it because, like me, she's crap at parallel parking and wants to make sure she can get out even if you move your car. If she parked at the back of the space and you then parked close to her she might not be able to get it out.

Another neighbour parks in the third space when it's there. We all park anywhere if our usual space is taken but it doesn't happen often just be the pattern we all come and go in. If someone comes in and there's no spaces we have to go back onto the street.

I tried parking close to the neighbour to leave as much space behind me as I can but it didn't work and DH was nagging me incase I got too close one time and bumped her 🙈

Because she expects whoever parks behind her to park like she does - i.e. Right up to the bumper - so she's leaving space to get her car out easier -

In other words her car is too big for her to drive!

River I get what you're saying but she parks soooooo close to be if she's at the rear, then the person parking in the third space could very easily be parked close to her at the back too so she would be stuck anyway. I don't why she leaves a big space at the step but not at a carConfused

APlace I do try to do that but there's not much turning space it's easier to turn the car when it's facing the stairs but if one of the spaces opposite are empty that I can turn into then I will do that. I need the space to turn into because I need to make sure I'm parked out from the stairs because when she comes in and parks right up to the front of me it spend ages reversing the car around the step to get out.

I hope I'm explaining this ok it sounds hard to follow and I actually know what I meanBlush

Ijustwanna she's doing it the wrong way around for that because she could park so close to the step but she's never get blocked in yet it's the step she parks far away from.

I would reverse onto the street and park the arse end of your car near the step leaving adequate room to get pram out, then if she wants to park within a gnats pube of your front bumper to be a bellend then it makes no difference!

She sounds a bit PA and a bit daft.

Suggestions

  1. Why don't you park in the perpendicular space then leave her to get on with whatever she wants to do?
  2. Why don't you spray paint some guidelines on the ground. She might ignore the lines but you never know....
  3. bite the bullet and call around and talk to her? She sounds a bit scary but I can't see what you've got to lose.

Be careful about bringing out the spray paint, you can be accused of vandalism, or at least thats what my friend's landlord told her.

However, we used a very similar method a while back when we were having parking problems. My friend and I (who are neighbours) had this other neighbour. We all have allocated parking although friend doesn't drive and her space is used for visitors of hers. This other neighbour had a van and a big car, so gradually creeped into our (unmarked) spots. We went out one day, with a tape-measure and chalk. We marked them all up and came to the conclusion that we needed to shift over some because we were being squashed over by said neighbours massive vehicles. Other neighbour returned home later, saw the chalk and took the hint. Rumour has it that she did lots of bitching about whoever chalked the parking area, and she had concluded it was my friend alone. Regardless, we all got our spots back WITH room to open our doors, she started parking her large car elsewhere.

It's so if your close to her bumper she can move back and not get blocked in. I can't say I blame her if it's unmarked. I'd prob do the same.
