About my neighbour n the cat?

Hardyloveit · 11/03/2017 17:38

So my neighbours cat from round the corner seems to love my garden! Angry

It constantly shits everywhere! First of all it kept going in the flower beds.......so we put netting on and then it went just by the flower beds. Now it just goes everywhere, all over the garden! Trying to mow the grass is a nightmare! Every time it's a nice day and the DD1 whose 4 wants to play, myself or DH have to go out and clear up all this cat shit.......we don't have any bloody pets!

I see it in the garden all the time.....I've hissed at it, sprayed cat repellent, lemon juice, coffee grinds, spray it with the hose!
I'm at the end of my tether.
When I found out who the cat belonged to (it went missing for a few days and my neighbour came round all the houses asking) secretly wishing it had wondered off forever! I did mention that it kept using my garden as a toilet and she said "what am I supposed to do?"

Thing is if this was a dog it wouldn't be allowed and I feel like putting all the poo in a bag and putting it in her garden!

Any advice on what the hell to do?

Short of putting some meat with poison out there

30?! Shock

Lovetolaugh123 · 12/03/2017 09:20

I sympathise OP!

Our garden is just a concrete yard and a lobby, & the neighbours cat is always pooing in ours!

I'm pregnant so a bit wary of cat poo, & just in general not too happy about having to clear up after someone else's pet (I've been making DH do it, who is equally annoyed with the task!)

I understand that there's not much the owners can do about it, still annoying though!

Because our yard has no grass I don't think repellers & stuff would work (no soil to dig it into the ground & make it stand up?) Any suggestions?

JsOtherHalf · 12/03/2017 16:08

Put some olbas oil drops on used tea bags? It helped with other cats using our garden as a toilet.

Our cats are generally homebodies, and use the litter trays indoors - even when outside they come back into the house to do so.

kali110 · 12/03/2017 16:25

I do second that if there is as much poo as you say, then there is more than one cat coming into your garden. We have several ( indoor) so know how much and frequently they poop.
Spray it with water, everytime you see it in your garden.

Yes starfish is dangerous to cats Angry that is nasty

RandomMess · 12/03/2017 16:30

My neighbours got a sonic deterrent they say it works!!!

Def get a super soaker water gun, if nothing else you will FEEL better if you manage to squirt it.

Also hate to tell you it could be a dozen other cats using your garden too... many owners kick their cats out at night.

WateryTart · 12/03/2017 16:35

OH says try Jeyes fluid, they hate the small.

mummabubs · 12/03/2017 16:36

You can get fence toppers for your fence that rotate so the cats physically can't come into your garden. We can't get them due to our garden bordering and backing onto other gardens but we have a recused ex-racing greyhound who is definitely not cat-friendly and both our neighbour's either side have now got cats. They've since learnt to stay out of our garden but I took to shooing them out for their own safety (that and I also hate that they pooed in our garden).

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/03/2017 16:47

Please don't use Jeyes Fluid (mentioned upthread), it's highly toxic to cats.

Vegansnake · 12/03/2017 16:49

What is she supposed to do??? Obviously come round and clear it up each time

Trb17 · 12/03/2017 16:52

I put Jeyes fluid on the tops of my fences as cats hate the smell.

LakieLady · 12/03/2017 17:00

The only certain thing I know of that works is a dog that chases cats and has unlimited access to the garden.

Even that doesn't work all the time. A huge black cat has recently moved into the area, and I spotted it eyeing up the robin that's nesting in our hedge 3 times before the dog saw it off.

CandleWithHair · 12/03/2017 17:00

I have two cars that I adore. But I also understand how vile cat shit is to find in your garden!
My two are both outdoors cats but They have a litter tray indoors which they use diligently. If your neighbour gave a crap herself, she'd get one for hers. Unless you live in acres of land, your cat is 100% shitting in someone else's garden. Not nice.

I have had problems with a phantom cat crapper on my lawn, still haven't found a perfect solution but if it's any solace I find the problem is worse in the winter months when I'm outdoors less. General gardening when the weather improves seems to scare whoever it is off!

I think asking your neighbour to pop round and clear it up (given you have photographic proof her cat is the offender) isn't unreasonable but not very practical! Cat proof fence seems like a good option

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 12/03/2017 17:09

Trb17 please don't do this, it can kill them.

HeeHighls · 12/03/2017 17:10

I don't get the cat thing at all.
Either they're shitting all over other peoples property, and no they don't bury it, not that it solves the problem or they're shitting in the owner's home.
Imagine if I stated that my dog now dumps into a tray in my kitchen? At least he wouldn't be able to walk through it then jump on to work surfaces.

As to your problem OP and you have my sympathies, my cat problem was only to the front grass. Though when I moved here to cut the grass and was overcome by the stench, it took nine poo bags to clear it. Not nine deposits but nine full bags, the filthy creatures.

Luckily there's some gravel underneath the window where I could hear them. It was a matter of stealth. Wait for them to squat, open the window quietly and let loose with hissing and hand clapping.
They just got fed up with being disturbed. So perseverance solved it.

Some people also find it amusing that their cat is out all night killing wildlife. Maybe the same ones who'd be disgusted at game shooting in Africa.

HarrietSchulenberg · 12/03/2017 17:27

Don't bother with planting herbs, my cat used to piss all over my herb garden and killed everything off. They might not like the smell but they'll just cover it up with something else like wee.
Perhaps catnip would do the trick. Cat wouldn't want to shit where the good stuff is so would come to yours to get high as a kite then bugger off elsewhere for a crap.

Apfelbunny · 12/03/2017 17:36

I hate this about cats. Why do owners of dogs have to be responsible when cat owners do the really have to do much other than feed them?
Then they make a big deal about then disappearing or getting run over - if you care that much, keep it indoors.

Try chucking pebbles at it.

My a got so good last year I could even get the damned squirrels that keep digging up the lawn

Onlyaplasticbagdear · 12/03/2017 17:52

I never understood why people have an issue with cats killing wildlife. My two are indoors so they don't but it's natural predator behaviour. I presume you don't feel the same way about lions killing antelope Confused

Also they never walk through poo - they're obsessively clean animals. They poo in the litter but if they stepped in it they would freak out completely.

My one year old is way, way more disgusting than my cats.

Onlyaplasticbagdear · 12/03/2017 17:52

apfel you sound like a delightful human being.

Hardyloveit · 12/03/2017 20:08

I've seen those fence spinning topper things..... once I have the spare cash I will get those!

I really don't think it's another cat..... I've never seen another cat ever not even in our road. It's probably bad ATM as we haven't used the garden grass area all winter as the weather hasn't really been good.

We went to the garden centre and I pick up a few different cat repellents that I haven't tried....... and am ordering a sonic thing off the net tonight! Will let you guys know if any works!

Like others have said though if I had a cat and my neighbour told me what it was doing I'd pick it up if she had proof!

Worried about my herb garden now tho! I've planted lots in a netted patch......don't want cat piss killing them once they start growing.,

Also have noticed 2 blue tits nesting in one of our bird houses! Hope they keep safe too!

Cayenne pepper where it shits and a super soaker. All the cats in our neighbourhood usually detour our garden.

Re the killing wildlife. You just go a buy a cat, it kills the frogs, birds and mice. Then your next door neighbour gets one, it kills more wildlife, just for fun. There is no cap on cat ownership and no natural predators. Result: lots of dead wildlife and a lots of fat cats who are loved by their owners and detested by everyone else. I'd rather have the robins but the black cat next door has done for them.

The thing I don't get is that cat owners are supposed to be animal lovers. But they obviously aren't or they wouldn't have outdoor cats.

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/03/2017 20:25

Please not pepper or chilli, if it gets it in its eyes it will literally scratch its own eyes out.

Super soaker on its own is fine.

kali110 · 12/03/2017 20:47

Don't use chilli op ] or pebbles Angry some people.
Iv never seen so much hate towards animals as i do when i come on mnet.
jap when my two old cats were allowed out they didn't kill wildlife, they were tertified of everything.
We have a multitude of smaller animals that instead of chasing they run from.
Not all cats kill.
Oh, and cats are not the cause in the drop of wildlife or birds.

Coughandsplutter · 12/03/2017 21:11

Can't stand this either. We bought a car deterrent alarm noise thing which is high pitched noise to clear them off. Found one cat asleep next to it the other day. We've tried all sorts but they come back.

Hardyloveit · 12/03/2017 21:28

I won't use chilli etc..... I don't want to harm the cat just want it to shit not in my garden...... maybe in the owners house so she knows what it's like to pick it up!

Because I don't have a cat. And it really upsets me to have to clear up dead animals that next door's hideous animal leaves on my doorstep.

I am less bothered about lions killing antelope because one is yet to leave one for me to stand in.
