About my neighbour n the cat?

Hardyloveit · 11/03/2017 17:38

So my neighbours cat from round the corner seems to love my garden! Angry

It constantly shits everywhere! First of all it kept going in the flower beds.......so we put netting on and then it went just by the flower beds. Now it just goes everywhere, all over the garden! Trying to mow the grass is a nightmare! Every time it's a nice day and the DD1 whose 4 wants to play, myself or DH have to go out and clear up all this cat shit.......we don't have any bloody pets!

I see it in the garden all the time.....I've hissed at it, sprayed cat repellent, lemon juice, coffee grinds, spray it with the hose!
I'm at the end of my tether.
When I found out who the cat belonged to (it went missing for a few days and my neighbour came round all the houses asking) secretly wishing it had wondered off forever! I did mention that it kept using my garden as a toilet and she said "what am I supposed to do?"

Thing is if this was a dog it wouldn't be allowed and I feel like putting all the poo in a bag and putting it in her garden!

Any advice on what the hell to do?

Short of putting some meat with poison out there

Thank you....... I hope it stop it before summer so we can enjoy the garden without having to worry!

Sympathise with all those it's happened to too!

(I actually don't have anything against cats, had them growing up!)

Cat proof fences or anti-climb paint.

JacquesHammer · 11/03/2017 18:50

My sympathies OP. Next door's comes into my house to use my carpet as a scratching post 😡

So far I have had slight success with terrifying it by banging pans

Hardyloveit · 11/03/2017 19:04

It comes into your house ShockShockShock

Feel for u!

Unfortunately once cats have a territory for their 'toilet' they'll go back to the same place. Ours goes in the neighbours garden to the point they put some netting over their pots 😂. I'm surprised they've not said anything to us actually

Bombaybunty · 11/03/2017 19:59

They were talking about this on the radio today. Someone suggested used teabags, doused in Jeyes fluid scattered around the garden.
Supposed to work!

Seryph · 11/03/2017 20:37

OP, joking about poisoning people's pets isn't funny to pet owners. It is highly unusual for cats not to bury their leavings, and I would suggest that there are multiple cats in your area doing this since a) it's out in the open which is a territorial thing and b) one cat doesn't actually shit that much (I speak as someone who empties a litter tray for two cats).

You need to scare that cat every time it comes in, and preferably before it shits.

Have you considered using powdered dried starfish. I was at work and a very knowledgeable colleague stated that it keeps them away. I have not used it as i do not live near the coast

paradigmshift · 11/03/2017 20:49

Have you ever thought about using dried powdered starfish. A very knowledgeable colleague at work says it deters them and he tried Lion and Elephant dung and all sorts. He said that after using starfish they never came back.
I have never used it as i do not live near the coast.

Highliving · 11/03/2017 20:52

To the person who suggested starfish as a deterrent can I please advise you that starfish is poisonous towards cats-Extremely. It is as dangerous as anti-freeze and is not a deterrent but a killer.

Starfish if consumed would be the same as a human swallowing a bag of ground asbestos
I would be fair to say that you are not fully aware of the dangers but now you know.

londonrach · 11/03/2017 20:54

Its been a huge bug bear for us too when we redid our garden. In my experience no cat burys its poo. I see them doing it and leaving. Never seen any cat every bury poo. Really think cats should be kept within their owners garden as its safer for them eg traffic. The local cats lost interest after my got some sonic cat repellants. Not cheap but worth it as a big tom was killing one plant with his spray. I dont think people who have cats realise their effect on their neighbours. I certainly didnt when i had a cat 15 years ago but i wouldnt get a cat now.

londonrach · 11/03/2017 20:56

Ignore typos as feeding and typing

paradigmshift · 11/03/2017 20:57

Sorry. Are you saying that my colleague is intentionally killing cats? I know he had an ongoing problem with cats and looked into it considerably. He is not a stupid or vindictive man. All I know is that he is an animal love but had an issue. Are you a vet?

monkeysaymonkeydo · 11/03/2017 21:00

Dominant cats don't feel the need to bury their poo. Probably a territory thing.

Another natural deterrent is orange and lemon peel as cats hate the citrus oils. Or yep a waterpistol is a good idea. My cat is pretty persistent but reckon a waterpistol would see him off!
I agree with other posters though. If it was my neighbour and they told me I'd go clean it up. My cat does have a whatts app group though as visits a number of houses on the street! 🐱

Hardyloveit · 11/03/2017 21:06

Seryph - by the comments on this thread il think you'll find cats do shit a lot and don't bury all the time! How many pp have just said it?

We are going to the garden centre tomorrow so will get some new plants suggested and all more repentant n cat noise thing and. More.

Then send an invoice to my neighbour.................JOKE! Wish I wasn't though

OP posts:
Highliving · 11/03/2017 21:08

No I am not a vet but my sister is!!

There are many things which are poisonous to household pets! You just don't know they are! That's all I am saying.Never suggested your friend was harming anything! But I fear if he is a clever person like you say then he would know.

With a dog you are to a certain degree sort of in control of what they interact with but cats being inquisitive and roaming freely like they do can be most at risk.

Sadly there are many cases where the loss of their pet to a person young or old can be very traumatic.

Put it another way; Find another deterrent, I hope shortly someone will back me up what I am saying.

JigglyTuff · 11/03/2017 21:10

Starfish is dangerous to cats. Google it.

CrochetQueenfromCoventry · 11/03/2017 21:16

I've heard that Lion manure in your garden is a very good cat deterrent. You can buy it on Amazon apparently.
However I'm not sure how you feel about replacing the cat poo with even bigger cat poo!Wink

AmIthatbloodycold · 11/03/2017 21:25

I see it only took 4 posts before the obligatory "cats bury, are you sure it's not a fox " post

OP, I have tried lemon peel, the green granule stuff and a spray bottle.

Unfortunately, I have a life so cannot sit by the window.

But I do know the little shitting bastard responsible, as he has even eyeballed me while shitting. And then sauntered off.

Little fucker

mummypeepee · 11/03/2017 21:26

Wonder if human pee would deter like it does foxes? Or borrow a dog for the day from someone and that should hopefully scare it off?

helpimitchy · 11/03/2017 21:32

Buy a reticulated python, which will eat the cat.

Once it has eaten the cat, you'll need to keep on feeding it though or it'll end up eating you.

MidniteScribbler · 11/03/2017 21:36

Lion Poop doesn't work. Mythbusters tested it and it didn't deter them at all.

Borrow a dog for a week. That should sort it out.

Hardyloveit · 11/03/2017 21:39

Lion manure Shock not sure how dh would feel lol!

Human pee......... hmmmm no harm in trying! Il get dh to do that one!

We have pythons! Not retics tho! We have royals!

OP posts:
helpimitchy · 11/03/2017 21:44

I have a royal python as well. His name is Eric.

Hardyloveit · 11/03/2017 21:52

I'd love to borrow a dog but dd2 has really bad allergies and is so young still.

Eric! Awesome........ we have quite a few ( around 30) but my fav is Phoenix!
