AIBU to really dislike that word and be sick of everyone (mainly chavvy people, sorry...:gets ready for backlash:) banding it around on FB all the time?!

Maybe I'm just unlucky and it's only people I am friends with, but it seems to be the only adjective a lot of people on my FB can use nowadays.

It's always 'Lush meal out for our anniversary' 'Lush day out with the kiddies today' 'Look at my new dog, isn't he Lush'

Arghhh, I just hate it! Also on the list at the moment is 'Bubba' 'Kiddies' and 'Little Man' Angry

Yes, I probably am BU!

Also a West Country maid here.
I luv it's I dooze. 😂

absolutelynotfabulous · 11/03/2017 09:06

I'm from South Wales, and I've never said it.

I thought it was a Gavin and Stacey thing?

missyB1 · 11/03/2017 09:07

It's a West Country thing, I'm in a Gloucestershire and unfortunately it's crept up to here too Angry

I immediately scroll past any FB posts where I see the word Lush.

queencrunch · 11/03/2017 09:07

It's a west country/ Welsh thing.

I was confused when my dh called me Gert lush. Smile

Tinkerbec · 11/03/2017 09:08

I hate ' little man ' too. Not even sure why.

Newyearnewbrain · 11/03/2017 09:09

I'm pretty sure 'Susan' would get on my last nerve

justaweeone · 11/03/2017 09:10

My daughter is in her first year at uni in Cardiff.
Lush is her new favourite word! She also does a very good impression from Gavin and Stacey ' to be honest I'm absolutely twatted 'ShockHmmBlush

KatieScarlett · 11/03/2017 09:10

What does "Gert Lush" mean?

BurnTheBlackSuit · 11/03/2017 09:12

Lush is a lovely word if you've got the accent that goes with it. Otherwise you sound like an idiot (and someone who has watched too much Gavin and Stacey)

There are many other regional words like this that only work with the right accent...

Weedsnseeds1 · 11/03/2017 09:13

Gert lush = very good, superb. North Somerset here so part of the dialect!

Bookridden · 11/03/2017 09:25

Lush is a lush word. So is "babber" (baby), "Asdawl" (Asda), "led down", and " smoothin' the cat". Standard speech where I comes from!

Imaginesthat · 11/03/2017 09:26

It means alcoholic to me (jeans a right lush on the wine every night her)

The80sweregreat · 11/03/2017 09:29

i thought you meant the shop too.

Its just another overused word - it will be replaced with something else by next year i'm sure.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 11/03/2017 09:29

My South Welsh family say it all the time. Sounds wrong without the Welsh accent.

BestIsWest · 11/03/2017 09:31

It's cowin' lush mun.

sophr2017 · 11/03/2017 09:32

My DH was talking about smoothing the cat to a Northern Irish friend and apparently there it means ironing so he was a little shocked Confused

the80s

I've lived in the Bristol areal (area , pronounced ariel) for 50 years and I remember "lush" being used when I was a child. I think it's here to stay.

Spam88 · 11/03/2017 09:37

Yep, very common in Wales! My husband hates it 😂

I was also very surprised to learn that people outside of Wales don't smooth their pets...

ShowOfHands · 11/03/2017 09:37

I'm fed up with adult women writing yum or yummy. I thought om nom nom was annoying enough. You. Are. Not. Five. You are not smashing it into your face either while we're here and listing your failings.

Screwinthetuna · 11/03/2017 09:37

It's a bit old fashioned around here, I'm hating, 'OMG, that's bag is GOALS.' Or maybe they spell it GOALZ

Screwinthetuna · 11/03/2017 09:37

That ^

CarrieMyBag · 11/03/2017 09:39

YANBU. Hate it and it is so common.

Bookridden · 11/03/2017 09:41

And daps. Only Bristol and South Welsh people know about that one it seems. I was shocked when I lived in the Midlands to hear them called "pumps".

VittysCardigan · 11/03/2017 09:44

I live in North Somerset (Zummerset) love hearing gert lush & regularly say cheers drive
