To have wanted to report this guy

Getting off a packed train at King's Cross today I noticed an extremely drunk man with his daughter. She was about 5/6, he had evidently brought her up to London for the weekend. I know he was drunk because a) he REEKED of booze b) his eyes were red c) he nearly fell off the train getting off. He went the wrong way towards the end of the platform before someone pointed him in the right direction. Last I heard of him was 'Right, let's go to Lessersqqquare'

My heart broke in two for his lovely shiny girl, with her backpack and excited eyes.

Should I have reported him? Could I have? Who to?

You were aware that not only was dad totally pissed, but mum had put a 5 year old on a train alone and you are wondering if you should have reported it!!

Userone1 · 10/03/2017 19:50

Navy 5 year old travelled alone to meet Dad. Mum just put her on a train.

damnedgrubble · 10/03/2017 19:53

Its an offence to be drunk in charge of a minor isn't it?

Legally, yes. However, in Daily Mail land it's fine if you are middle class and relaxing on a Friday night with a glass of Waitrose finest. If you are working class and spending your benefits on cider from a budget supermarket, not so much.

Lalalax3 · 10/03/2017 19:54

Again. Yes, clearly I should've reported it. I feel shit about it. I hope the girl is ok.

Nope OP said child was put on train to go and meet dad.

I'm not quite sure how that works!

Mum puts child on train at x station and child either knows where to get off to meet pissed dad. Or pissed dad is waiting for same train further along the line. I assume he has walked the pitbulls beforehand too!

Lalalax3 · 10/03/2017 19:57

I only mentioned the dogs because the way in which he was talking about them was incoherent. Again, I don't care what dogs he had. If it'd been poodles I'd have said poodles.

He was on the train with his daughter. I heard her say 'When mummy put me on...' I know no more than you otherwise. The grey areas contributed to my reluctance to report, if I'm honest. But I do know that he was drunk and in charge of a minor. And I should've reported him.

Grin Navy! Come on keep up!

Mum puts child on train alone to go meet dad is what op said.

So either girl travelled to where dad was and got off and meet him at a different station. In which case 5 year old could join Mensa.

Or mum put girl on train at different station and dad was waiting further down the line and got on train to meet girl.

Either way both were on the train when OP got on!

Lalalax3 · 10/03/2017 20:05

I was in a vestibule with them for five minutes. That was plenty of time to establish how drunk he was. But not to gather all the facts about the details of their journey together.

KungFuPandaWorksOut16 · 10/03/2017 20:05

Are you sure the smell was from him? You must of been pretty close.

How I talk sometimes can come off, as If I have had a drink. It's a mix of my accent, talking too fast and muddling up my words Grin

There's not really much you can do about now though is there.

Userone1 · 10/03/2017 20:05

But 5 year old was shiny and excited and not petrified by the experience of travelling alone

GreenRut · 10/03/2017 20:09

That exact thing happened to me when I was 7. A lovely stranger told the police and they saved me. I often think about that person and wish I could find them and thank them for doing such a lovely thing. Yes, I would have reported it.

Userone1 · 10/03/2017 20:10

OP you don't actually know that the mum put the girl on the train to meet him as you first said?

Lalalax3 · 10/03/2017 20:11

He was so drunk that he fell over in the train, reeked of alcohol, was carrying alcohol. He tried to talk to the lady who'd been sitting next to me about her dog, lurching towards her, talking loudly and erratically (about his pit bulls, yes). There were a lot of raised eyebrows, I was clearly not the only one there who could see what a state he was in. Without a breathalyser of course I can't prove it but I'd swear in court he was drunk.

Lalalax3 · 10/03/2017 20:12

I only know what the girl said. As I said before, I wasn't gathering evidence, just in the same space as them.

OP posts:
Lalalax3 · 10/03/2017 20:13

Greenrut: you're right. I should've. I know this now and wouldn't hesitate to do it if it ever happened again.

OP posts:
Userone1 · 10/03/2017 20:14

Haha! Now he was carrying alcohol too!

How did he know the sitting next you had a dog?

I thought he shouted about his pitbull once off the train and walking away?

Userone1 · 10/03/2017 20:14

'Lady'

Lalalax3 · 10/03/2017 20:14

The sitting next to me had her dog with her, sarge.

OP posts:
Userone1 · 10/03/2017 20:16

What the dog was called sarge?

Lalalax3 · 10/03/2017 20:16

Are you just trolling me now Userone? I don't really know what you want from me here.

OP posts:
Userone1 · 10/03/2017 20:22

Sorry just finding it all a bit unbelievable!

Lalalax3 · 10/03/2017 20:23

Well I haven't spent my Friday night answering your questions just for the fun of it
