To think that people living on welfare shouldn't be running off every five minutes for a new tattoo or piercing?

I'm probably going to get shot down for this, but I just had a little disagreement with a woman I know. She posted a photo on Facebook of a rather large tattoo on her forearm that she'd just had done. Last month she had skin divers put in her chest and hand. The month before she had another shit tattoo.
This individual is single and has two children. She hasn't worked a day in the last decade, but is living off the state. Am I being a bitch by thinking she should spend the money she receives on feeding the children and keeping a roof over their heads? I noted that she feeds her boys Pot Noodle for dinner but makes sure she's got her fags too. It just annoys me.

I'm on benefits I have no tatoos my friend gets her ink done free she is on benefits too

ArchNotImpudent · 09/03/2017 17:19

"The disagreement came about because she was moaning that she couldn't afford swimming lessons for her kids. I was just on my way to the pool with my daughter when this happened and she couldn't see the irony of flashing her new tattoo whilst moaning about being skint."

If you'd posted 'AIBU to think my friend should prioritise her children's swimming lessons over a new tattoo' without bringing benefits into it, you might have got a more positive response.

ghostyslovesheets · 09/03/2017 17:20

she doesn't 'live off the state' she claims benefits she is legally entitled to...GF Hmm

ItWentInMyEye · 09/03/2017 17:20

Sadly it appears one person actually agrees with the OP.

I reckon it's the pot noodles that's knocking the swimming on the head, they are quite expensive you know.😁

lavenderandrose · 09/03/2017 17:22

Plenty of people will agree, ilovesooty, although they won't say so on Mumsnet.

Lweji · 09/03/2017 17:22

It's not a very good bun fight is it?

Are you on glue? It's a great bun fight. The best. If you use Trump's definition, that is.

sashh · 09/03/2017 17:23

settles into sofa with a cuppa and some biscuits

I hope you only bought the biscuits after 22 years working without a day sick or a day's holiday.

Fed DD mama noodles for dinner today and I'm on benefits (unemployment) I did give her a couple of little carrots to go with it though, do I get some 'not as bad as some of them' points for that?

MammaTJ · 09/03/2017 17:26

What a beautifully timed drip feed!

LakieLady · 09/03/2017 17:26

True, true. But they should be made to recycle them. Thorough washing then boil for dock leaf soup. Surely better than a pot noodle?

Excellent idea. Any traces of poo would make the dock leaf soup all the more nutritious, and it wouldn't make them ill if they boiled it for long enough to kill all the pathogens.

RochelleGoyle · 09/03/2017 17:26

YABU and a bit smug.

Lweji · 09/03/2017 17:26

Lweji Look at you trying to make it a current bun...

Surely you meant currant bun. Redcurrant to be more precise.

Crunchyside · 09/03/2017 17:26

I do agree with the OP to some extent... I wouldn't make the blanket statement that the thread title makes - but I do agree with a more toned down version: if you're hard up for cash and you're financially responsible for your kids, you should be sensible with the money you've got. That's just common sense isn't it?

I know someone who is on a low income that is constantly running out of money at the end of each month and is always begging on Facebook for lifts and help paying for taxis to get her primary school age child to school, meanwhile as soon as it's payday she blows half of it on expensive tattoos. It's bloody irresponsible and I know she's not thick, so she should know better.

allfurcoatandnoknickers1 · 09/03/2017 17:27

So you are all seriously telling me that you think people who can't be arsed to work should get money for body art?
This same woman was recently asking on Facebook for a lift to hospital to see her son. When someone offered to give her the money for the bus she declined. She then posted 30 minutes later asking someone to collect her a macdonalds. I shit you not.
