To think that people living on welfare shouldn't be running off every five minutes for a new tattoo or piercing?

I'm probably going to get shot down for this, but I just had a little disagreement with a woman I know. She posted a photo on Facebook of a rather large tattoo on her forearm that she'd just had done. Last month she had skin divers put in her chest and hand. The month before she had another shit tattoo.
This individual is single and has two children. She hasn't worked a day in the last decade, but is living off the state. Am I being a bitch by thinking she should spend the money she receives on feeding the children and keeping a roof over their heads? I noted that she feeds her boys Pot Noodle for dinner but makes sure she's got her fags too. It just annoys me.

Yes I do hail from Barnsley. Accidentally put 'ethnic' not 'ethic'.

I desperately need an eye test. Last one was over seven years ago.

I am waiting until I am unemployed again. Get them for free!

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 10/03/2017 00:57

It does get a bit chilly around the wolds.

SumThucker · 10/03/2017 00:57

Let's not stereotype, right?

Oof. That had to be irony.

allfurcoatandnoknickers1 · 10/03/2017 00:57

Huh? He was a miner like his dad. He joined the navy as a medic. He rose through the ranks in a 22 year career. Hard work. Difficult for some to understand 🤔

Double irony, but that would be lost on you.

Would it, Barnsley lass?

ilovesooty · 10/03/2017 00:59

Gosh. And he had this sterling work record while drinking the family money away and condemning your mother to the chilblains.

There are people who are functioning addicts. My dad could function and work in his off phase. But every 10 to 13 weeks he would go on a binge, requiring my mum to borrow in order to pay the rental on his work equipment. Thus building up debt. Then he would go into his off phase work clear some of the debt and then plunge into addict phase again and the debt starts again. So yes it is possible to be an addict, a heavy drinker and still work, as my dad did right until his death. For some of you posters who are so quick to demand others validate your experience, you sure are quick to dismiss others' as implausible.
My mum wanted 4 children. She stopped at one as she realised she would not be able to provide for all 4 at any adequate level. Better to have one and ensure that one is well taken care of with her meagre resources. We come from a country with a non existent welfare system. Perhaps if there was welfare, my mum might have been encouraged to have 4 in the believe that the state will provide? But she didn't as that attitude was would have been given very short shrift in my country.

Lweji · 10/03/2017 01:00

Impressive. Miner to navy medic via horrific injuries.

SumThucker · 10/03/2017 01:00

No one claims they 'hail' from a town their parents lived in years before they were born. Nope Grin

BillSykesDog · 10/03/2017 01:00

crosscountry, I hadn't even noticed that! Wasn't aimed at you. I live somewhere fairly local to you and there's a bit of rivalry so I'm just following local tradition slating Barnsley!

allfurcoatandnoknickers1 · 10/03/2017 01:01

No, I don't think he had a 'sterling' work record but he did ok nonetheless.
Sorry, what? This is about my mum and dad on trial? Ok. They were not tattooed lazy cunts, rest assured.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 10/03/2017 01:02

They were chilblained heros. Bless 'em.

allfurcoatandnoknickers1 · 10/03/2017 01:03

Whatever. Really, whatever. I still think you're a cunt of you're getting tattoos on the taxpayer 🖕🏻

I think i like this thread more than the horse on benefits thread.

Your dad was so selfish that he failed to provide for his family because he drank it all. While he was safe and warm and fed.
M
I'd rather have the tattooed woman, thank you.

Only about 80 miles apart, but, you know your geography, eh? Grin

MistressMerryWeather · 10/03/2017 01:05

What if they get a tattoo saying 'Thank you tax payers!'?

Lweji · 10/03/2017 01:05

Also, who do you think was paying your dad's salary that he wasted on drinking?

CrossCountryRunner · 10/03/2017 01:07

OP

I can read. Your story regarding your dad's meteoric rise through the ranks and the movements around the country by your family were missed as this is a very popular thread. The thread is updating all the time! By folk thinking you are an utter twat!

Catlady1976 · 10/03/2017 01:07

Sorry op did you just say other posters shouldn't stereotype. "Pot-kettle"

Catlady1976 · 10/03/2017 01:10

Oops my irony radar is off. Need to go to sleep.
