To think that people living on welfare shouldn't be running off every five minutes for a new tattoo or piercing?

I'm probably going to get shot down for this, but I just had a little disagreement with a woman I know. She posted a photo on Facebook of a rather large tattoo on her forearm that she'd just had done. Last month she had skin divers put in her chest and hand. The month before she had another shit tattoo.
This individual is single and has two children. She hasn't worked a day in the last decade, but is living off the state. Am I being a bitch by thinking she should spend the money she receives on feeding the children and keeping a roof over their heads? I noted that she feeds her boys Pot Noodle for dinner but makes sure she's got her fags too. It just annoys me.

There was a thread on here a while back about the possibility of dome kind of currency for buying essentials whilst on benefits.
Of course this would force claimants to only shop in places accepting the currency.
The only winners would be the shops concerned. Can't see many charity shops taking them etc.

Actually furcoat, if you 'hail from', it means that's where you're from and generally, one would expect you to be based there too. Or it would be (for example) I hail from Barnsley but live in Richmond now.

MistressMerryWeather · 10/03/2017 00:42

Yes, she had to move there after the wicked landlord flung her family out into the cold.

But she got her own back. She started a facebook company bedazzling WKD bottles which filled her back account with money.

She then bought all his properties from under him and then he had to go live under a bridge.

Dawndonnaagain · 10/03/2017 00:42

Or bookshops Catlady

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 10/03/2017 00:43

I watched the tv series of that book . It was all brooding men in breeches.

Lweji · 10/03/2017 00:44

Such a horrific life. It's a constant repeat of horrific circumstances and events.

How did your dad manage such great work if he drank all his wages?

Catlady1976 · 10/03/2017 00:45

Exactly dawn.

allfurcoatandnoknickers1 · 10/03/2017 00:45

Also, isn't it fucking hilarious! One woman's struggle to feed her children and keep the wolf from the door. So what she had hands full of chilblains!? This is hysterical! Did the silly bint not know she could get free money AND tattoos?!

BillSykesDog

My God. You posted what I was thinking.

I am from Barnsley. The coal industry and linked industries were the main occupations for men up until the strike of 1984/1985. Never heard of anybody working away at sea.

Nowadays it is tertiary industry. Call centres etc.

I smell porkies.

ilovesooty · 10/03/2017 00:47

I reckon the OP is so pissed she's overreaching herself now.

allfurcoatandnoknickers1 · 10/03/2017 00:47

Leweji, I really don't understand myself. I think he may have been a heavy drinker who later turned in to a bit of a high functioning alcoholic. He died at 64 because of his lifestyle, but he worked right up until the end 😢

And I also know that the farms on the outskirts of Barnsley grew mainly potatoes. My sister was a picker. The farmers were good employers and provided gloves. Chilblains my arse.

allfurcoatandnoknickers1 · 10/03/2017 00:48

So I am imagining that my family came from Barnsley and that my dad was a sailor? Oh, ok 😂😂

Lweji · 10/03/2017 00:51

How did your dad get from miner to running a sick bay, btw?
What's the career path?

No matter how great he was working he was keeping the family in poverty by not sending them money. So, are you really angry at this woman or your dad?

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 10/03/2017 00:51

I think you are imagining a lot of things.

Catlady1976 · 10/03/2017 00:51

Did he not get any compensation for his accident op? That could have paid a few bills.

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 10/03/2017 00:52

Did he have any tattos?

allfurcoatandnoknickers1 · 10/03/2017 00:53

Jesus Christ! Is this what you get from this post? Worrying about where my dad worked?
My mum and dad met at a dance hall in worsborough dale. They got married in '69. Dad joined the navy after being laid off from pit work. They moved to Portsmouth, lossiemouth, Gibraltar and Lincolnshire (where I was born). Ffs

No, he didn't have tattoos. He hated tattoos.

Lweji · 10/03/2017 00:54

All sailors get tattoos.

Don't they?

Dontactlikeyouknowme · 10/03/2017 00:55

Lots of brussels in Lincolnshire.

That was not the question.

It's how does one get from miner to running a sick bay?

SumThucker · 10/03/2017 00:55

Cold enough for chilblains though?

allfurcoatandnoknickers1 · 10/03/2017 00:56

There are shit loads of Brussels in Lincolnshire, and lots of sailors hate tattoos. Let's not stereotype, right?
