To ask for your Prague recommendations

Posting here for traffic.

Me and dp have just booked a four day mini break to Prague at the end of the month. Any mumsnetters that have been to Prague, send me your suggestions.

The old Jewish Cemetery is also an incredible place but very sad.

Go and see the Astronomical clock, it's brilliant! Take good waking shoes and go and see the castle as well.

If budget is no question- stay at the Mandarin Oriental Prague, DH whisked me away there pre-kids and it was 1 of most beautiful, romantic hotels we've ever stayed. www.mandarinoriental.com/prague/

Went two years running we loved it so much. The castle and St Vitus Cathedral are beautiful. Walking along Charles Bridge and checking out all the statues, so much to see.

Agree re the castle and cathedral - they are amazing! We went to Prague for our 10th wedding anniversary, it's a lovely city. There are good museums as well.

Great suggestions so far. Especially the good ones! I find eating out in an unfamiliar city so stressful so need plenty of those.

The astronomical clock is probably the biggest disappointment you will ever see, but you still have to see it.

There's an alchemy museum (called Speculum Alchimae or something like that) which is properly awesome. There's old underground labs that were only discovered a few years ago when the floods caused a wall to collapse. The tour is only about half an hour but it's really really good and definitely one of our highlights :)

And there are plenty of places to eat out so don't stress about that! They all have fairly similar menus as well so I don't think you can go too far wrong (although finding the non-smoking areas can sometimes be a bit confusing!)

I second Kampa Park for a special meal. It's not cheap, but an amazing gastronomic experience.

Lucky you, I love Prague!

The Old Town can get really busy so we loved wandering around Mala Strana, across the river. The area around the castle is lovely, and very peaceful if you go early in the day or in the early evening.

Petrin hill is nice for walking if you need a bit of green space, and gives a great view over the city. There is a funicular to go up if you don't fancy walking it. Lovely rose gardens at the top.

If you want to see some live jazz, check out U Malehu Glena, a tiny little underground place, it's awesome! Have a great trip Smile

The John Lennon wall is also worth a visit. Take paint/a Sharpie to add to the artwork.

Prague is lovely - went there with DS in February. Wander around at night time and see the buildings (and the clock) then as is lots less crowded. Food is great - Set lunch deals are a steal. We did a lot of wandering around - headed over to Petrin Hill one day, up the observation tower (well worth paying for the lift up and walking down) and then wandered through the park over to the Castle. You could spend a lot of time there.

Loved wandering around Prague and stopping off for coffees here and there - there's a lovely little café just down near the Waterwheel as you cross the Charles Bridge to Mala Strana and we ate really well (some great thai places as well as Indian and polish food). DS loved the special effects museum near there too.

The Old Town square is beautiful but bars and restaurants on it can be pricey. Go a couple of streets back though and there's lots of fantastic restaurants etc with cheaper prices. Loved Prague! The Hotel Maximilian was where we stayed though not checked to see if it's still called that. Have fun! Smile

I would recommend the hotel we stayed in: Imperial Art Deco Hotel - just near the old down.

We also loved Charles Bridge, castle, and Perrin Hill.

We didn't manage a meal at Kampa Park but did have a glass of bubbly on the deck there overlooking the Charles bridge - lovely!

Obviously the castle , the funicular up Petrin Hill,Our lady of Run on old town Square. There are shed loads of places to eat Czech food is filling and often much nicer than it looks beware Pork knuckle though it tends to be enormous
