I'm in no position to join the grammar police but some MNetters might be grateful to learn that

all intensive purposes should actually be: all intents and purposes

per say should be: per se

mute point should be: moot point

I've got a syndrome and therefore should not be mocked. CSS..crap speller syndrome.

Noodoodle · 08/03/2017 17:48

Also, to add, people who say Chester draws instead of chest of drawers. That one annoys me.

SummerHouse · 08/03/2017 17:48

I recently found that my 4 yr old singing the little mix song was doing a shout out to his "eggs". He had also been calling his friend Brandon Random Confused

user1484578224 · 08/03/2017 19:14

beat " the escaped goat"

littlewoodentrike · 08/03/2017 19:25

Hello everyone, my name's called Littlewoodentrike. 😬

ArmySal · 08/03/2017 19:27

Good evening, littlewoodentrike Smile

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 08/03/2017 19:29

Surely no one says "escaped goat"?

Shock
ArmySal · 08/03/2017 19:37

Most mistakes don't bother me, but how anyone can write 'high rate' in the correct context of being mad, yet don't Confused at the two words making zero sense is beyond me.

QueenOfTheHighCs · 08/03/2017 19:38

I once saw a customer service email offering a "goodwill jester" which conjured up all sorts of hilarious images.

I also must second pp who said it's nothing to do with grammar, it is simply misuse/misunderstanding of words or phrases!

PseudoBadger · 08/03/2017 19:43

This thread has taken me from pillow to post

PseudoBadger · 08/03/2017 19:44

Seen on a job advert today "this is the perfect roll for you"

CoconutAmericano · 08/03/2017 19:53

Today I read a review on a furniture facebook page. The lady was delighted with the candle harbour she bought. Shock

The lady was delighted with the candle harbour she bought
I'm picturing a lovely scene with little boats bearing candles in a moonlit harbour:)

ChickenVindaloo2 · 08/03/2017 20:02

I'm sat hear crying at this thread. I can't bare it.

ChickenVindaloo2 · 08/03/2017 20:04

Years ago, I got my dictation back after it had been typed up. It said "John is a prentice plumber".

Robynmasters · 08/03/2017 20:08

Your wasting you're time. They won't listen to your advise.

peaceout · 08/03/2017 20:09

John is a prentice plumber
probably thought that 'prentice plumbing' is some sort of obscure and specialist branch of the plumbing profession?

2017SoFarSoGood · 08/03/2017 20:15

The one that almost literally I fear makes my head threaten to explode is HEIGHTH. Perhaps it is confused with width but it is not the same word form. Nonononono. Just no. It is not a word. just cannot bear it

Axed gives me the actual apoplexy (okay, I don't know what that is, but it feels like what happens when I hear someone "Axe" me a question) Angry

ChickenVindaloo2 · 08/03/2017 20:15

Yes, peace. Probably. Or more likely, the typist just didn't think!

SayNoToCarrots · 08/03/2017 20:17

I find it most frustrating when people use 'myself' and 'I' incorrectly, because I know they have actively decided that their use is correct. Sometimes people even correct others who are correctly using 'me' in place of 'myself' or 'I'. Angry

PseudoBadger · 08/03/2017 20:18

We have a real problem in my profession with people saying a premise when they mean a premises.

zaph0d · 08/03/2017 20:19

Grammar

The difference between knowing your shit and knowing you're shit.

(Sorry if repeating, I haven't read the full thread, delicious though it is.)

Bumpsadaisie · 08/03/2017 20:22

We definitely need less threads about this sort of thing. Can't you just except that as long as people can understand it its fine.

dontbesillyhenry · 08/03/2017 20:22

I'm actually crying with laughter at Bob's your ankle and cheese at fortnum!
An acquaintance's young lad is so wonderful she wishes his brothers would take a 'leap' out of his book

ChardonnayKnickertonSmythe · 08/03/2017 20:24

I'm all for good grammar, in principal.
