People taking advantage like that caused the changes.
Actually it was narrow minded, not terribly bright idiots that caused the changes. People started jumping on bandwagons and judging and made the numbers look far higher than they actually are. Instead of saying we have a number of people who are poor and need help, they said look, almost everyone is fiddling the system. They gave the government an area to cut back monies on a plate and placate the masses that were too stupid to do a bit of research. So the government are laughing their tits off and getting richer and the disabled, the poor, the lonely, the vulnerable, the absolutely damned terrified are going without and dying because you couldn't see further than your nose.

Shellym13 · 08/03/2017 09:40

The benefits system needs an overhaul but not in the way the government are attempting to do it. Im glad we have this safety net for people that fall on hard times, I'm lucky that I've never had to claim but If I did t volu tree for cab I wouldn't have a clue where to start. That film I, Daniel Blake was do real to life, it was awful. If anyone is confused or worried book an appointment at your local cab and I'm sure they will take the time to go through everything with you and help fill out any forms. They aren't miracle workers but will help the best they can.
There no time limit in appointments or restrictions on the number of times you can go. It takes as long as it takes.

gentlydoesit89 · 08/03/2017 09:40

I live in one of the areas where this is being trialled and it's a mess. Over complicated, has caused a lot of harm to a lot of people financially, in many varying circumstances.
I'm a single parent working 28 hrs a week and I'm £30 a week worse off under UC. I've yet to hear from anybody it's been positive for.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 08/03/2017 10:31

we don't post any crap jobs, these are decent opportunities with the living wage if you are of age. It's embarrassing as there are loads of genuine employers looking for staff on the page also

This is just a fancy way of saying minimum wage

CallingGloria · 08/03/2017 10:42

Just listening to Radio 4 and this puts it into perspective.

Families living in Syria just want safety, shelter and food. We have this....and free healthcare, education, democracy....

People will be worse off under UC, but I haven't had a payrise in 5 years.

Shellym13 · 08/03/2017 10:44

The living wage is for over 25s and the minimum wage is for those under. It's going up to 7.50 p/h, still not great but a lot of employers are having to let people go as they can't afford the increase coupled with the new pension scheme. So that means less jobs. I've had a 1% pay rise for the last 8 years and just can't keep up with inflation, I'm sure there's loads of people in the same boat.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/03/2017 12:33

People will be worse off under UC, but I haven't had a payrise in 5 years.
I work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. I have been up since 4am. My annual pay rise is about 50pence. I'm sorry you haven't had a pay rise for five years, and whilst I do have free health care, and shelter, we don't always manage to eat well and we can't afford the heating, but hey ho. Hmm

HelenaDove · 08/03/2017 13:50

Go back a few years it was "Well ppl in Africa are worse off" Now Syria is being used as an excuse for a race to the bottom like Africa was previously.

CallingGloria · 08/03/2017 15:19

I work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week ???

AndKnowItsSeven · 08/03/2017 15:30

Yes Gloria Dawn is a carer.

Dawndonnaagain · 08/03/2017 21:09

As was pointed out, I care for my dd. I also care for her twin when she's at home (uni, at the moment) and her brother when he is at home (also at uni).
Dd2, who is currently at home is very, very ill at the moment, she has some quite severe mental health problems as well as her physical disability. This frequently necessitates me being available during the night. Sometimes to help her turn over and sometimes to reassure her. I get bugger all for doing this, on top of which, I'm pushing 60 and have a disability myself. I have very little time for your 'I haven't had a pay rise for years'. I haven't had a holiday for years, I haven't had a meal out for years, I haven't been to the cinema since 2009 and on top of all that, I'll bet you're annual increment is a whole site more than my 50pence. Angry

HelenaDove · 08/03/2017 21:29

Gloria
Laura Branigan
Gloria, you're always on the run now
Running after somebody, you gotta get him somehow
I think you've got to slow down before you start to blow it
I think you're headed for a breakdown, so be careful not to show it
You really don't remember, was it something that he said?
Are the voices in your head calling, Gloria?
Gloria, don't you think you're fallin'?
If everybody wants you, why isn't anybody callin'?
You don't have to answer
Leave them hangin' on the line, oh-oh-oh, calling Gloria
Gloria (Gloria), I think they got your number (Gloria)
I think they got the alias (Gloria) that you've been living under (Gloria)
But you really don't remember, was it something that they said?
Are the voices in your head calling, Gloria

HelenaDove · 09/03/2017 02:51

A few of those lyrics from the song that matches your username seems to perfectly describe the way you come across on this thread Gloria.

Thats why i posted the lyrics.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 09/03/2017 16:58

When anÅ·body talks about safety food and shelter.

Do they not realise that in the UK it is money that provides those things.

JingleMum · 10/03/2017 16:29

Rainbows You stupid woman. You really believe this cruel, disgusting system isn't ruining people's lives??? Have you seen first hand what's happening to people who are ill/disabled/vulnerable? I have, and it's disgraceful.

The benefits system needed an overhaul, but not like this. Not punishing innocent people. Believe it or not, not everyone is out to cheat the benefit system, the vast majority don't.

You know nothing of my cousin's situation. She was diagnosed with secondary infertility so believe you me this baby is a miracle. Who are you to sneer at her working 24 hours & claiming some tax credits? How fucking dare you. There but for the grace of God...

LovelyBath77 · 13/03/2017 17:20

Jingle mum sorry to hear you had to have such comments about your cousin's situation. Hopefully having the new baby will not mean a change to universal credit straight away, or if it did it should be OK. I think it is more people with a third child would be worried as they are limiting help to two children (both tax credits and UC). Especially if she is working 24 hrs I can't see it being a problem.

I find tax credits online chat quite helpful, just google or via the tax credits site, they might be able to advise if the change would mean a new claim for UC or not. Kind thoughts

Yea I've just seen on Facebook that apparently lots of pensioners are being evicted due to rent arrears caused by the switch to UC.

HelenaDove · 16/03/2017 01:17

Just saw this comment on fb.

"The older generation are the ones with the largest number of secure tenancies. They are worth £billions and this is what the capitalists want to get their hands on. Knowing that they had secure tenancies and there was no legal way to evict them they, have gone for the cruelest option of starving them out"

Graphista · 16/03/2017 01:26

Bastards! Angry

HelenaDove · 16/03/2017 01:33

YY Graph Thing is its a situation thats going to be replicated elsewhere. I suspect its only the start Angry

Graphista · 16/03/2017 08:54

Yea I don't think they have any limits to who they won't attack.

Thing is pensioners - purely from a voting perspective that's stupid as pensioners are usually the biggest group of voters! Alienate them at your peril (is Theresa May a commie plant? Hmm working to destroy the tories from the inside? One can only hope!)
