I have same thread - other subject. Not much response yet but so thought I'd try again here.

Well, my sil is house sharing with 7 other people. there is 1 room spare on the ground floor which used to be her room and is technicaly still hers as it says that on her contract. (she moved upstairs a couple of days ago to a bigger room) Anyway they are a bunch of teenagers and keep coming and going. One of these kids is a friend of a friend of one of the others that live there. Friend visited and stole bunch of keys. My dh has changed lock on the front door, broken the lock on the bedroom door and locked the windows. Today one of them tried to climb up the drain pipe to the 1st floor to climb through window.

Anyway.. Police have been involved, they cant do anything and every suggestion we give is a 'grey area' Apparently they can leave the room, then actually break in through the window to get back in!
The squaters went to the police reporting the people that pay rent to be there cos they were trying to knock the room door down!

Cant be right can it??

i dont think they are squatters (legally) because squatters take over an empty property.

try this

and then if you google landlords law squatters (or similar), there are lots of sites

They aren't squatters.

They broke in to private occupied property, and are trespassers. If they did any damage they are vandals. If they remove other peoples belongings, they are thieves/ burglars.. Whoever stole the keys, is " equipped for a crime".
