What is realistic

NC as this is fairly embarrassing!

I'm getting married next summer (yay) and I really want to lose weight before hand. I'm 5"2, size 16 and 12stone 2! I'm changing my diet slowly so I can stick to it and I'm starting to exercise.

AIBU to ask how much weight do you think I can realistically lose in 16 months?

1lb a week conservatively, 2lb a week doable. So 128lb max (assuming four weeks in a month).

Not sure you want to go that far though Grin

Where do you want to be? Targets?

Stardust1901 · 06/03/2017 14:09

Id be happy with 10 stone but ideally 9-9.5 stone.

I am incredibly lazy when it comes to exercise though! I need a kick up the bum!

If you lost 1lb per week for the next 16 months that would be roughly 64lbs - so over 4 stone!

If you get your diet right you don't have to think about exercise except for toning and muscle definition.

I've lost 90lbs and not done a tap of exercise Grin

Fortyisthenewthirty · 06/03/2017 14:13

Your goal is very realistic. It's a good timeframe to lose 2.5 stone.

RyanStartedTheFire · 06/03/2017 14:18

That's a good timeframe to do it healthily. I'm aiming to lose the best part of a stone by my wedding in August.

Stardust1901 · 06/03/2017 14:48

Ah thank you! I hope I stick at it!

Losing weight healthily doesn't necessarily mean slow weight loss. I went from a size 18 to a size 14 before my wedding seven years ago by taking up bouldering/rock-climbing & rowing (hate cardio). Coupled with a sensible 1800 cal a week diet I was losing up to 10 pounds a week!

I'm now a size 12 - have maintained my figure due to keeping up with the high calorie burn exercise.

Astoria7974 · 06/03/2017 14:58

You're about six inches shorter than me tho - so you prob need way less than 1800 cals. Weightwatchers etc can give you an idea

Fadingmemory · 06/03/2017 15:08

I am 5' 2" and weighed 12 stone. I took 6 months to lose 3 stone and have kept it off. Am very active, though. You could lose at the rate of 1lb a week and have plenty of time to shed, say, 3/3.5 stone.

SheSaidHeSaid · 06/03/2017 15:12

I'm 5ft 4 and lost 2 stones on slimming world in 3 months so you'd easily be able to reach your target if you commit to it.

Stardust1901 · 06/03/2017 15:13

Fadingmemory Well done! Can I ask what you do? What do you eat?

OP posts:
Drquin · 06/03/2017 15:30

I've been doing slimming world too, for just over a year and lost 4 1/2 stone, so your target seems more than reasonable.

Reow · 06/03/2017 15:45

You can definitely do that!

Though I echo the others when they say it's eating that counts, as opposed to exercise. Exercise definitely helps, but it's food choices that will have the big impact.

I personally hate all of the faddy diets that are going round at the moment. You can really eat well and in good portions and still lose weight. I would recommend meal planning and cooking in bulk.

Order some meal prep trays and plan out your meals 3-4 days at a time. Bulk up your meals with loads of lovely veggies so you're feeling full up and not deprived, but avoid artificial/"weight loss products". Seriously, there are a lot of low carb fat free "products" about these days to make money from people trying to lose weight, and it's bollocks. Prep a huge salad for lunch and a big veggie chicken stew or a stir fry for dinner, and stick to what you've prepped.

Plan to have a proper pizza or curry once a week so you know you have a treat coming up and have something to look forward to, but I honestly believe that when you get into the habit of eating healthy and clean your body will crave crap a lot less.

Good luck!
