Parents responsible for children on social media

I've just heard a few unpleasant stories and wonder if we are parents were legally responsible for what our DC post online, would we see a change in behaviour

Well it depends what age you stop being responsible and for how much you are responsible for.

IME most parents don't give a shit how their children behave on social media.

I told a parent about her 11 year old swearing at everyone in a group chat. She said 'what do you want me to do about it'?

No-one I know, checks their kids messages, apart from me. And I only allow WA, which my child barely uses. But still regularly come across unacceptable stuff. I have given up telling parents. I'm sure they think I am mad over protective. But they are 11 years old!!

So, yes I agree it's a good idea OP (sorry, went on a little rant, and forgot the point)

I would expect a parent to be as responsible for their child's behaviour online as they are for their behaviour elsewhere. Some kids do the wrong thing even when their parents are doing everything right but I would expect parents to be as concerned about behaviour online as elsewhere and take steps to deal with it (monitoring social media or whatever was appropriate).

I find social media depressing for all kids, all I see is anxiety and drama. God knows how the generation growing up thinking that bullying is normal and there is no responsibility for what they post
